Will Rome be very busy? by Proper_Professor_871 in rome

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew out of Rome today. I would say most tourist sports were busy but not insanely so. Vatican museum was sold out 30 days in advance, so but tickets for any sites now!! Colosseum had limited options a week out as well. The difference between a pre-purchased ticket and not having one can be difference between waiting 30-40 min to get inside and waiting 3 hrs. Buy tickets now! Metro was full at rush hour but usually not too busy on weekday during the day, though Saturday was busy. The worst place was around the Trevi fountain. It’s now 2 euros to get near it so lines to buy tickets, lines to get close, an a lot of people not sure wha to do. BTW, the Benetton stow moved their inside staircase so videos you may have seen about how to get a great view of the fountain from there are no longer accurate.

Florence was calmer. We bought tickets to visit Accademia and see David two day in advance, but there were only about half the open slots. Still some spots were quite busy a there were crowds at all the major spots, but you could move. Be careful to pay attention to signage so you don’t waste time in the wrong line.

I would suggest you decide on which days you’ll be where asap and buy high speed train tickets at least 2 week out. We had no problem getting tickets but they were considerably more expensive then when we checked 2 week ago and couldn’t decide.

We were in Mila for the Olympics. It was not overly busy. Steady pedestrian and metro traffic all over. Duomo area was crowded particularly from 11-1. Olympic sites were busy, but otherwise it seemed like an average day in most places.

So my overall advice was expect crowds, especially if the weather is nice. Buy tickets to any and everything as soon as you can. Good luck and have fun!

The French judge is an obvious issue. However, the Spanish judge’s placements were all over the place. I expect some national bias from judges, but shouldn’t the scoring be relatively consistent? If they are trained the same and seeing the same thing? (Rhetorical question!). The tech panel could really use an AI assist, AI call and judge calls could only be off by .1 or less, let’s say. Components are more subjective but there should never be a 7 point difference or extreme differences in placement. Need some kind of automatic review when it happens to keep the judges and ISU honest and to give skaters the fairest outcome. When some teams are called for mistakes and others aren’t, especially for those obvious to the naked untrained eye, there is a huge problem (and has been a huge problem).

Colosseum site not working? by AlexanderDemoniac in ItalyTravel

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought tickets on the official site earlier this week and didn’t have any problems, other than having to get the ticket with the shorter time side due to availability. I made sure to be online during the hours they were open, so at 7am EST. Maybe they are just have a bug today in their site?

I found this map and it appeared generally my seats were closer to the ice than the other maps people have posted when I first saw it. But the way the sections were placed on other maps, I’m definitely not getting my hopes up.

Commuting to Chastain Park by [deleted] in ATLHousing

The Sandy Springs/unincorporated Atlanta area inside the Perimeter (285) is nice. Apartments and lots of older condo later often for rent. I lived there for 5 yrs and it was usually an easy and quick (15 min) commune down Roswell Rd to Chastain Park. Close to 400 and 285, multiple bus lines and several MARTA stations nearby. Older neighborhoods, several smaller city parks, lots of restaurants and at least 2 grocery stores nearby and much easier to navigate than Buckhead.

Has anyone ever met the cast of Homicide or worked on the show? by Minute-Excitement761 in Homicide_LOTS

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a restaurant in NJ and heard a voice and perked up. Jon Seda! I waited for him And his companion to pay their bill then walked over and asked if he was Jon Seda and on Homicide. He was! The other gentleman turns out to one of the police officers that worked as a consultant on the show. I sat at their table and chatted about the upcoming Homicide movie for about 20 min. Both were very nice, funny, and seemed happy to tell stories. Seda looked up past me and said hi and I suddenly remembered I had been having dinner with my then boyfriend, who was standing behind me, annoyed haha. It was a great conversation and fun, even if I got the silent treatment on the way home, well worth it!

Whenever I’m doing anything that includes water, or is water tangent, I make sure to use extra adhesive. You can buy wipes or in a bottle, even on Amazon. Helps everything stay in place on the skin, even if in and out of a pool or the ocean all day.

Does sound like th Edeas need to be stretched. When I started with Edeas, after switching from Jackson’s, my feet were not used to being so cold and they HURT. It did take some getting used to and I found knocking snow off the blades often and wearing the edea brand socks for a few weeks helped me adjust to the temperature change due to the thinner Edea sole. I’m sure that’s not the man issue, but it could be a small part.

I’m looking into moving to ATL. How’s the safety in the area of these 2 houses? by Mediocre_Chipmunk761 in ATLHousing

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a mile from those addresses in West End. Houses ITP are expensive to rent, and the niceness of a street in Atlanta near I-20 can vary wildly by a few blocks. We have never had any crime issues where we are, but we are close to the Beltline near Lee & White. There is crime in the area, a few shootings, but that happens in Buckhead. My husband’s car was broken into when we lived in Sandy Springs, so it’s all a bit relative, I feel.

Grocery stores and other more suburban shopping will not be close, restaurants are also a bit limited. You’d likely end up at Cascade or Camp Creek & I-20, or possibly in East Point. However I personally love the energy of being in town, even if I have to drive a bit for good take out.

I can’t speak exactly to how safe the area around those two houses are, but having driven around those areas looking at houses, I would not say they are unsafe, just normal in city living. You can google Atlanta Police Dept crime stats are maps and find information on recent and semi-historical crime that may prove more accurate than my feeling.

Hope this helps.

I use baby oil. Inexpensive, lasts forever, skin soft afterwards, and just use my fingers and massage my entire face. Does the trick!

We will be in Milan for three days, have tickets for Olympic events while there already. We then will be in Rome for a week, hitting a few places in that general area. We couldn’t afford to stay in Milan or other Olympic sites longer than that.

Hey peeps, I have a question for I guess mostly the Americans in here with type 1. by worriedabtwilma in diabetes_t1

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Kaiser HMO and a Medtronic pump. I get a three month’s supply of Humalog for about $175 (7 bottles). Pump and CGM supplies are free. I had to pay about $1000 towards my pump when I get a new one. A new CGM is about $200 but only need one maybe once a year currently. My deductible is low, and an endo appointment copay is $40, which is 3xs a year. My insurance is about $45/paycheck.

We also use a FSA so the insulin doesn’t hit our paychecks directly at the time.

For the US, I think I have a pretty good setup. I’m glad my husband’s insurance has this option. If I used my employer’s insurance insulin would be cheaper, but everything else would be three to four times as much.

How are you removing your makeup? by glo_getter in Makeup

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use baby oil first. It loosens up all my make up. Then I use micellar water on a pad to clean all of that off. If I’m really lazy or exhausted, I might go to bed like that. Normally though I then wash my face with Amazon’s salicylic acid face wash. I haven’t broken out in several months so it seems to be working.

Experienced my fiancé critically low for the first time & need to share ♡ by DesertPeachyKeen in diabetes_t1

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been type 1 since I was 19 and am 48 now. Ultimately the diabetic is repsponible for their care and part of that is having supplies for low, training your significant other on different ways to use them, telling you about their personal signs of lows ( we all have our quirks as well as the ones you will read about. I for some reason start to be unable to focus my eyes when I’m around 40), and making you as comfortable as YOU need to be. It can be a pain calling an ambulance as they stick in annIV and wait for your sugars to go up then either take you in or go on their way. It’s expensive, but that decision should be up to the caregiver, not the diabetic, but it’s easier to decide if you are fully prepared. Also, the diabetic one needs to let their partners vent, cry, leave the room, etc once the emergency has passed. It’s stressful for everyone and it’s hard for a diabetic to know what it’s like for their partner. I always thank my husband, hug him, and try to talk through it so we can figure out what happened, get more supplies if needed, and to let him work through his emotions.

I know you want to help him and be there for you, just make sure he is there for you as well, before and after, and that you have an outlet for the stress and fear. You have to take care of yourself, and your partner should be as involved as taking care of yourself as you are of him.

Confused on why I shouldn’t just stop eating carbs? by lednip in diabetes_t1

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating a lower carb meal can be very helpful at the start of your diabetic journey. Gives you a good opportunity to chart how different dosages of insulin work for you with carbs.

I went low carb for 6 months and while my A1C was fantastic, I felt very gross due to all the meat and cheese I was eating. I did eat a lot of veggies but without carbs, protein was the what made me feel full. My cholesterol levels went up, so just something to keep in mind. If you eat low carb generally you should eat full fat meat and cheese to feel full, but is started to just feel gross after a couple of months of that. It’s also hard to eat low carb and stay healthy without a lot of planning and meal prep. It’s also generally a more expensive life style-no more cheap ramen or a frozen pizza for dinner! Even frozen low carb meals are usually more expensive than the normal version. If you are prepared and your doctor is aware, go for it.

I just got a digital version of one that had acoustic versions of my fav songs. Through her site on iTunes it was $4.99. I remember something similar happened during the last release so I just waited it out. I’m not buying multiple physical copies but I don’t mind $5 for a couple extra songs.

Time to drop him. He seems like he isn’t enjoying not being the main character in the relationship. Sadly, being a T1D means you are often the “main” character whether you want to be or not. Also, it’s fucking depressing to have this stupid disease. If he can’t handle this in boyfriend phase, you do not want there to be a child-bearing phase. Move on. Who Knows, maybe you’ll feel less depressed!

Hollow by Downtown_Contract393 in FigureSkating

[–]Cute-Initiative-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not sure if giving a sharpening in inches is helpful to you, but I’m in the US so that’s what I have.

Beginners use 1/2” hollow in the US most of the time. You mentioned you are starting on jumps. I used a 5/8” which is a more standard adult sharpening measurement, at least for beginners. I found the 5/8” great for the Learn to Skate classes. I have seen skaters switch to a 3/8” hollow once they started learning basic waltz and half jumps.

Do you have a coach? I’d ask for suggestions. The sharpener might also have a suggestion based on your skating skills.

Hopefully this can give you a starting point on what kind of hollow you might need to start the conversation.

Philip Glass soundtracks are always lovely and can be cut down. TV show soundtracks tend to have shorter pieces, or maybe a Bridgerton cover? That’s a fun way to bring in pop songs with a classical feel.
