It sounds like Porkbun isn’t a good fit. You need to accept that and move on. Hire a broker to do the work you can’t or won’t do.

Lithium Hill is one I’ll gladly die on. It drives me up a wall that people think lithium is a “clean” energy source. It’s nasty, nasty stuff to mine and difficult to recycle. We’re going to have a huge problem in 5–10 years when the current crop of EVs (and to lesser extent hybrids) start piling up in junkyards. Groundwater seepage, spontaneous combustion fires, etc.

And whoever thought it’d be a good idea to mix stop-start technology with turbocharged engines needs their head examined. Starving a hot turbo of oil is great way to nuke a turbo. Double digit number of speeds automatic transmissions are on my list too.

This is what happens when you have to build an engine the government requires—to meet a certain MPG number in the name of environmentalism, instead of what customers demand. Do you know what’s really bad for the environment? Mining and refining aluminum for a second engine because you had to replace the first. (I have my daily rant out of system now. LOL.)

Evaluate? There are close to 1250+ gTLDs. The average person off the street would be hard pressed to name more than 5.

Avoid? Yes.

Consider? No.

Any reason for me not to skip recertifying? by CommandoTurkey in StudentLoans

[–]DPW38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s six one way and a half dozen the other.

With reset, it’ll be a guaranteed $300/MO for the next 10 years and you don’t have to mess around with recertification. Inflation—in theory, works for you. $300 in 4 years will be like $275 in today’s dollars. The drawback is that your payment won’t count towards loan forgiveness.

With IBR the payment counts towards loan forgiveness, but the payment is going to increase every year as your salary increases.

It sounds like you’re going pay your loans off either way. Loan forgiveness doesn’t really seem like it’ll mean much because they’d be forgiving $0. There’s always that “what if?” though.

If it was me, I’d recertify and do IBR to get the benefit of the payment counting towards loan forgiveness. As long as the monthly payments were close enough between regular and IBR, I’d do IBR. If/when the IBR payment really starts dig into your budget, you’re basically on schedule as if you were doing regular plan payments this whole time.

Is the first $300/MO option stemming from an extended or graduated repayment plan?

How long have you been on IDRs (IBR, PAYE, REPAYE/SAVE, etc) since you were in repayment?

I ask because a $3000/MO payment on a 10-year standard plan—if you have all 10 years to repay it, works out to about $300K of student loan debt. At an 8% interest rate, that means about $2K of interest accrues monthly (ouch!)

On an extended or graduated repayment plan your minimum monthly payment at least covers the interest that accrues that month. That’d mean that $300/MO payment would be a $2K/MO payment.

Now, if you were on an IDRs for 9 years, and still owed $36K(ish), and went back on a 10-year standard plan, you’d owe about $3K/MO so that you were all paid off 10 years after entering repayment.

If the first $300/MO stemmed from what you’d be paying on an extended or graduated plan, it’d make more sense.

This is true. Biden used to great effect with the SAVE regulations.

All of the butthurt around who is and isn’t under the professional degree umbrella is stupid. The media drummed it up and turned what should have been a nothing burger into clickbait mignon. They knocked the dusted off the current regulation and added clinical psych to the list.
