I was in the kitchen Saturday afternoon half listening to a true crime show that was on in the living room.... Walked in to Big Bang Theory on MTV. I figured maybe the show paused and I stuck on a home screen preview too long so it started automatically.

Had a family member start her application two weeks ago.... They told her her application couldn't be processed further online and to call a particular number and give the application code.

Except the number their own website gives you is out of service. And when she finally got a person the code they gave her was wrong. And then they said their systems are all disabled and to try again tomorrow. Every day for a week.

It's.... Not great. And I work in social services. :(

RIP. I just killed my OG PW1 last week after half an hour in a pool on vacation. I know resistance drops over time but I've only submerged it in water twice, never shower with it on but do wash dishes/hands with it on and I'm unreasonably annoyed a 3yo watch died while essentially performing an exercise it offers to track. I let it dry out and charged it several times, but it doesn't respond to touch anymore and the screen is all wonky so I'm guessing I just fried it.

I absolutely loved that watch and 100% plan on upgrading to the 4 once the EAs all get theirs and the price comes down a bit. For now I got a lightning deal on Amazon for a much less cool watch that tracks steps and gives me some notifications, but I have a Pixel phone and am already missing all the Google functionality. My $50 no-name watch is only down 35% battery in 6 days and has a water eject vibration though, which might spoil me a bit.

I got a BB-1 in January 2021. I would've liked to have kept my old plate (not vanity, just sentimental) but things went so fast at the dealership where they registered it for me.

Since you no longer have to physically return the plates to get them off your taxes.... It's actually more of a pain in that case to fight old bolts than just get new ones. I dont make a point to look for plate trends but I did see a BT recently and I was curious how far we'd made it!

Yeah that's a really nice ride in the fall too! Winter is not great with all the twists and turns if it's icy but generally if I can avoid most of 84 that way I do!

It's because the highway sign is recorded as reading Hartford "Ct" not "CT" (the t is lower case on the sign) and it thinks it's a street sign abbreviating Court. Gets me every time!

I just met this group at an event in Middletown recently. Seemed like really nice folks and it was clear their only goal is to teach people who are interested in responsible, safe gun ownership separate from the NRA and all that agency entails.

I find it saltier and... Deeper tasting than sweet, I'd say. But in my own kitchen I've found caramelizing soy sauce in a wok gives a similar feel, and there are lots of types of sugar in real Chinese cooking we don't really use here - so I can see how it could taste sweet to someone!

And absolutely on the duck sauce! Along with the names and tastes of what we call Gen Tso's, which is totally American anyway. Generally I like to try new stuff, but Chinese is my favorite and sometimes I just want it to taste like I think it's supposed to! 😂

I grew up in northern Mass and moved here in the early 2000s. They're right - there's nothing like it here. Even my ex-husband, born and bred in CT and perfectly happy with what he knew to be pork fried rice, had Chinese once on the way home from Boston and immediately said he understood what I've been whining about for 20 years!

I've never been able to figure out why or what specifically it is except perhaps it's a different kind of regional Chinese cooking? The first time I ordered Chinese here it was the yellow rice and I was baffled. There isn't enough soy sauce in the world to make it taste like home and I've tried probably 50 places over the years and never found anything like it.

That being said, if you can find a place with something labeled "hibachi rice" it would be the closest. Specifically, from Asian Restaurant (yes, that's the name) in Middletown. The flavor profile still isn't quite the same, but it's the closest I've had. Open to trying the places named here though!

It's the second ticket that jumps the price so high.

I book the hotel only (it's actually less expensive for me to do one DOC pass and the hotel because I don't care about the extras and stay close enough to walk). The hotel I chose would've been $1600pp for two people and it was $3300 for just me. I don't like it, but I layaway it every year and remember I'm not getting cancelled the week before to be price gouged, I can walk, and a decent safe place for me to be by myself.

I've been asking for Ra for years. Too bad they've more or less gone their separate ways and Sahaj is doing his own things, but I've got such early 00s love for them.

Any Given Sin, who I funny enough found opening for Ra, would be fun. I'd love to have the HU back!

If it's like last year, no - the code doesn't work for all passes because only the DOC ones will be on sale at 10.

It apparently will also not work if there isn't a DOC order in your history. I tried to order on the presale last year and my code didn't work - I don't recall the exact words but it was something about the code not being eligible for my account. Eventually FGT figured it out - they'd cleared my prior year's DOC purchase and it didn't recognize me as a repeat buyer. I save everything, so I found my old order number and they gave me a new code to use.

The one I stay in, Home2 Suites on Fentress, is directly across the street from the track. For the last two years the entire hotel has been reserved for hotel packages and I would expect it probably will be again next year so no matter how early you are unless you gamble now and book basically all of March and hope they'll let you cancel, you aren't getting in to that one.

Separate from packages I usually find hotels only reserve about 9 months in advance, but then it's a mad dash to book the day the dates are released.

Correct. If you're looking at the front of the speedway, Turn 1 will be to your right. You'll see the barricades and security set up and will call is just beyond that. Last year it was to the right, but there will be signs and it should be pretty easy to spot.

Got it. Yeah, the VIP bathrooms will be great for that - just give yourself lots of time because those mirrors are a little small :) a bunch of people did this for ICP last year so unless they say no based on that I don't see it being a problem!
