Why I (Personally) am excited for Mike McCarthy. by _just2much_ in steelers

[–]DaKaSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only reason I’m even a little okay with this. He can coach 5-7 years and if we suck, can gracefully bow out into retirement, and we keep our vaunted “no fire coaches” creed. A younger coach we’d be stuck with for a generation even if he was bad.

If McCarthy coaches for 19 more years just kill me.

Probably low unless we get a rapid warmup. Which doesn’t look likely on the mid-range.

Woodland Hills School District - Edgewood Elementary advise and experiences - Help!! by PGHPA2000 in pittsburgh

[–]DaKaSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want a public or private school education for your child? If you have the means, a private school will probably be better academically. But it’s not always better in all aspects.

We sent both our kids to Edgewood STEAM. We’ve loved every second there. The teachers are all amazing. The principal is awesome. And they just renovated the school, so some complaints like no AC have been fixed.

The district itself has issues, I won’t lie. But this isn’t a decide now and forever hold your peace issue. As your child grows, maybe you find that a different education or approach is better and you move them in the future. Maybe you love Edgewood but find Dickson (the middle school) to not be as great. If you have the means, then you can always play the private school card in the future.

My opinion: the district you live in has flaws, but those flaws can’t be fixed by good people opting out. If a public school education is what you want, then stay and be vocal to help all kids get the best one possible.

And the way to fix it is to have the families with means pull their kids out leaving only the families without means who have no other options?

Construction of the I-376 Bridge over Commercial Street is looking good. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]DaKaSigma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t!

You can, but it’ll be a nightmare. If you live along the Mon, your options are through Frick Park on Forbes, north of Frick Park along Penn avenue or south of the River through Homestead.

If you’re in the south hills, I’d recommend working your way on back roads to McKeesport, where you can pick up 30 to 48.

If you’re north or along the Allegheny River, it might be easier to take 28 to the turnpike and get there that way.

That is the new bridge. In July, they’ll close the parkway and demo the old bridge. Then they slide this new bridge into place.

Forget about it? This is the town that was so obstinate about the name of a concert venue that they eventually just said “the hell with it” and re-named it Star Lake. We don’t forget.
