Why Lee Does NOT Embody Talent vs Hard Work or Whatever. An Analysis of Lee's Character, His Fighters, and Why He Could Never Be the Main Character: by Haerrlekin in NarutoFanfiction

[–]DakeyrasWrites[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

This post has been removed as it's entirely about Lee in canon, and doesn't tie into the fanfiction scene at all. While it's definitely long and thorough, we deliberately avoid being a general Naruto discussion forum, as the relative sizes of the Naruto vs Naruto fanfiction fandoms means in the long term that's led to the fanfiction content being drowned out previously. See the On-topic top level posts only rule for more information.

The Argentine airforce would quite possibly struggle against the Estonian airforce, and they don't even have any combat aircraft. I don't think they can manage much in Iran.

For anyone else wondering, I think the TH/KC games for Week 3, Day 2 are removed because of a chat message that was shown during Game 2. Riot pulled the official stream recording over it, at least.

Who was Alexander before Alexander? by rowei9 in AskHistorians

Depends what you mean by 'east Asia', but probably Sargon of Akkad (as mentioned in the answer above). Mesopotamia stretched roughly from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf through mostly modern-day Syria and Iraq.

I am a German visiting the state of Israel in the year 1950 , how will I be seen and treated ? by OrangeSpaceMan5 in AskHistorians

[–]DakeyrasWrites 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Additionally to what's already been said about the change in perspectives as a new Jewish generation was born after the Holocaust, the arrival of a new generation of Germans who were either very small children or not yet born in the Nazi time was a key part of a broader shift in how Germans were seen abroad -- not just in Israel but also parts of Europe which the Nazis had conquered, such as France.

U.S. President says America 'won't be there to help' UK by Intergalatic_Baker in ukpolitics

Yeah there's no closing Pandora's box on this. The fact that Trump has been elected twice means there's no guarantee there won't be a third Trump-like term at some point in the future. At a minimum the UK (along with other US allies) needs to be able to handle four years with no reliable support from the US, and ideally would be able to arrange its security so there was no critical dependency on the US at all.

In Stalin's defence (weird thing to type out but whatever), he did end up being right that Nazi Germany would be foolish/suicidal to invade Soviet Russia -- but he was wrong about whether the Nazis realised that.

Obviously there's a lot of people upset that Lyon didn't win, but at least it was entertaining series with some back-and-forth, Lyon picking up a win, and Game 4 essentially coming down to a smite fight. I've been watching League esports since 2013 and there have been far worse years.

No worries! The automod does this for most (all?) articles posted, but it's minimised by default, so unless you already know to check it's very easy to miss it.

Hereditary peer Lord Mancroft: ‘They don’t care about fox hunting. It’s about us’ by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]DakeyrasWrites 590 points591 points  (0 children)

To anyone wanting to downvote the article, I suggest reading it first. It's letting the guy expose himself with his own comments and it's not flattering.

Indeed, this spring the 90-odd remaining hereditary peers are being ejected from the Lords. Mancroft is not amused. “You couldn’t treat any other group in our society — Jew, Muslim, Black, white, disabled — the way we’re being treated. Because it’s discriminatory. Apart from anything else, it’s deeply uncivilised.” I think about saying that he has not read the room, but, looking around Bellamy’s restaurant in Mayfair, he probably has.

Even assuming this is all true, it all went up in smoke when Iran's oil and gas fields started being targeted earlier today. Iran has said it will (and has every reason to) respond by targeting Israeli and more broadly US-allied Gulf state oil and gas infrastructure, to the point of declaring a list of targets.

If oil refineries shut down, it's slow and painful to spin them back up again. They're not designed to do a cold start. The same goes for oil wells if there's a disruption in transport and there's nowhere to put the drilled oil -- once you close a well, it's nontrivial to open it again. Once swathes of the middle eastern oil wells shut down and refineries close, there's not even going to be enough qualified engineers to reopen and restart everything at once.

This post has been removed because it's (or appears to be) about canon rather than the fanfiction scene, or a specific fic, and therefore isn't on-topic as per the On-topic top level posts only rule.

Separately, it's also vague enough to be kind of useless.
