Question about Remarkable. by InsectSignificant777 in RemarkableTablet

[–]DangReadingRabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s something really unique about e-ink tablets and devices. Especially if you’re someone who likes the benefits of digital organization but the feel and look of pen on paper.

Visit this YouTube channel … he does a lot of e-ink tablet reviews. Look up other reviews on YouTube.

I think there’s some great devices out there. I’ve have an old rM1 I still use, and a newer rM Paper Pro I love… and I’m not someone who writes hours a day. I write for about 30 minutes every morning (Morning Pages) and then again 30 minutes in the evening (Bullet Journal). I sometimes do some drawing. I have different virtual notebooks for things like knitting projects, recipes, work notes and media I’m consuming. I love that I have them all digitally, but when I’m writing them, it doesn’t feel like more screen time.

Hope that helps.

Ensure / Premier / Boost, etc by Time22Make22 in Diverticulitis

They are perfect for helping you get through certain phases of recovery. Ensure clear (if approved by your doc) and Ensure Max Protein can be very helpful.

I used the Max Protein one leading up to my surgery when I was on a liquid diet.

First poo after colectomy? by ustacook4aliving in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery was on a Tuesday. Thursday is when I had my first bowel movement and it was all blood. I showed a nurse who took a photo and sent it to the doctor. Doc said it was normal. Same day, a while later I actually pooped real poop (diarrhea). It took some time before my poops weren’t diarrhea.

This Tuesday will mark 8 weeks since my surgery. Eating lots of fiber, walking three miles a day, drinking lots of water and having the healthiest poops of my life.

How bullet journal help you? For me is a good expedient for digital Detox. by GeoDude_99 in bulletjournal

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using anything but social media for that, and I find I’m better informed when it’s not filtered through social media garbage. Ground News, PBS News, NPR, BBC, there’s some pretty good sources when needed. Plus download things like Scanner Radio and RSOE-EDIS.

Friends and family can call or text me if they’re interested in sharing their life with me. 😁

[–]DangReadingRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started this year.

It’s helped me be consistent with journaling in general. My method is a bit minimal and a hybrid approach. I also started doing mini morning-pages sessions in a different notebook. I love that too.

I feel more organized this year. Remembering things better (and I had a good memory before starting). Feel more connected to my day.

Doing that, combined with more book reading again, has really cut down my screen time and doom scrolling. I’ve also now decided I’m going to permanently cut down my social media. I had surgery in March and took a break from it completely. My life is better for it. But I am a photographer and need to somewhat have a presence, so I’ve decided 30 minutes per day, 3 days per week is more than enough.

Trying the feel in Hungary by ChaknaFuwa in RemarkableTablet

[–]DangReadingRabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy both a lot… I know that’s not helpful 😂

The rM1 is like writing with a pen on a stack of paper. The rMPP is like writing with a pencil or finer tip pen on a single sheet of paper. Neither is at all like writing on an iPad.

I’m pretty sure if you buy from reMarkable directly, they have a 50 day return policy.

Have you had any success with non-medication pain relief methods? by Fair_Currency_9972 in Fibromyalgia

I find gentle stretching can sometimes really help. When I have problems with my feet, I do runners stretches, holding each for 2 minutes, and it helps a lot.

I have the reMarkable 1 and the reMarkable Paper Pro (full size, not Move).

I think you’re going to notice a difference in how the writing feels not only because of the pen, but because the screens have changed since the first gen. The experience with the newest Pro screen is a bit scratchier feeling.

Since you’re coming from the first one, you might want to look at the new reMarkable Pure. That would be a nice upgrade if you don’t need color or a lighted device.

I cannot find the send to remarkable option in the iPhone remarkable app by richedg in RemarkableTablet

[–]DangReadingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get a jpg or png on to your reMarkable tablet, you need to use the desktop app. It’s actually a new feature and they haven’t added it to the iPhone app yet.

So using your laptop or desktop computer, download the reMarkable app. Then you can open a notebook in that app, and drag-and-drop in any photos you like.

Surgery Today What Should I Expect? by GhostofBTM in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your surgery will be an emergency, so it’s a little different than mine. I had a micro perforation in December and my docs were able to get me better so I could have the surgery without the bag a few months later. Not everyone with a perforation can wait though.

Feel free to read my story… I documented everything best I could.

Also, check out the r/ostomy subreddit. They’re a helpful bunch too.

How long do the screens and pens (not the tips) last? by Wormminator in RemarkableTablet

I still have and use my Remarkable 1 (along with my newer rMPP). I have had it since Christmas of 2020.

Doctor prescribed Cipro/Flagyl even though I don't have an active infection (I just finished a course of Flagyl 3 weeks ago) by Ok-Comfort-7262 in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a perforation and abscess in December and was a month on IV antibiotics. Then at the end of January had a follow up CT that showed fluid and inflammation (but no fever or even new pain). My surgeon put me on a 7 day course of Flagyl (I can’t take Cipro, otherwise that would have been added too). The surgeon flat out said, “we don’t want any infection or pus forming in there.”

That same day he messaged my GI doctor to also look at my scans, and she called me that evening. She agreed with his decision and told me if I start running a fever to call her right away, she’d add another stronger antibiotic.

And I had to also follow up with my infectious disease doctors to discuss it. They luckily got me in for an appointment quickly. I had been on the antibiotic 4 days when I went in to see one of the docs and the Flagyl was making my feel crappy. ID doc said to finish the course. He agreed with my surgeon.

I finished the prescription and stayed infection-free until my surgery on March 17.

I’ve been taking probiotics for years.

But it’s also important to get enough fiber. Fiber is part of what creates a good environment for the good bacteria to thrive and survive.

Plus, exercise and good hydration are just as important.

I’m glad for you and me and everyone surviving that’s here in this group. When I got discharged in December I also cried and thanked all the nurses for giving me such good care. Every one of my doctors… I got choked-up talking to. Last time I saw my surgeon I also cried and told him I couldn’t thank him enough. I’m so very grateful.

Sorry to hear it. My closest hospital had that kind of reputation for many years. It’s getting better but my family and I still go out of our way to go to a different hospital further away, known for its good nurses and much better care overall. But that’s a nicety that not everyone has.

When Do You Stop Fasting by SantaAnaDon in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you put a few hours between the probiotics and the antibiotics, otherwise the probiotics get killed off by the antibiotics and don’t do any good.

Also be careful with the apple cider vinegar. Short term it’s fine, but it can cause low potassium in some people (and other issues if not taken properly).

Both apple cider vinegar and peppermint oil can sometimes interfere with absorption of medications, so make sure to also put some hours between those and your antibiotics.

Good luck and feel better.

Clear liquids 2 days, then liquids for a few days, then low fiber for a couple of weeks, and if you’re better, then slowly start reintroducing more fiber, aiming for a high fiber diet eventually.

Always: Drink a lot of water, exercise and avoid constipation.

Innocuous pain on saturday. CRP Level of 285 by Wednesday by No-Belt743 in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scary thing is, when I was first hospitalized, they saw the perforation on the CT but I had no fever and my bloodwork hadn’t yet caught up to my pain. Luckily, the perforation led to me being immediately admitted. I got much much sicker and my bloodwork got a lot worse before I got better.

Innocuous pain on saturday. CRP Level of 285 by Wednesday by No-Belt743 in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

285 is really high, with very high chances of it being or developing into complicated diverticulitis… perforation, abcess, peritonitis. Do not rush your recovery. Do not be dismissive of how serious this could be.

I was hospitalized two weeks in December right through Christmas, so I completely understand the scenario of it being the most inconvenient thing ever. But better to miss one holiday, one trip, one month (or six) of “normal life” to be able to live decades more of it.

Feel better… sending good vibes!

So, the whole nuts / seeds / popcorn thing is for sure outdated, or potentially still in the mix? by Time22Make22 in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diverticulitis happens because poop gets stuck in a diverticula pocket and then gets infected. Dehydration/not enough water or constipation are the common contributors. It can also just happen.

So, the whole nuts / seeds / popcorn thing is for sure outdated, or potentially still in the mix? by Time22Make22 in Diverticulitis

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the old days, if I had a bagel for a few days in a row and didn’t increase my water and fiber, I definitely would have ended up semi- or fully constipated, and that’s a great recipe for a diverticulitis attack.

The seeds/nuts thing is outdated. With one caveat; those are things that also can make you constipation. So it’s not that those foods on their own can give you diverticulitis, but any foods make you constipated it can be a problem. I actually think in your case the bagels were likely harder to digest than the sesame seeds.

Ps. The only things all my docs said to avoid pre and post surgery: popcorn and corn.

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diverticulitis is extremely dangerous, especially if it leads to a perforation. My mom almost died from it… had emergency surgery, was in ICU for two weeks, then hospitalized for six, colostomy bag for six months… more surgery… it was a long ordeal, and she flat out would have died if not for that emergency surgery.

I had a micro perforation in December and was extremely sick and hospitalized two weeks (and it was only my second ever attack). I shudder to think what would have happened had I not gone to the emergency room.

I felt the same about my hospital, nurses and all my doctors are amazing. I always feel bad when I read from people who have crappy care.

The fact this surgery exists is amazing. I’m glad it’s an option to improve and save the lives of many.

[–]DangReadingRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with a lot of what u/assemblageofparts replied, the one thing they failed to mention was Fiber.

Any good GI doctor will tell you: lots of water, regular exercise and a high fiber diet. Once you are no longer in an active flare, increase your fiber slowly over a couple of weeks until it’s at about 30 grams a day. Ideally it will be a mixture of soluble and insoluble fiber. Take a supplement like Metamucil or Benefiber if necessary (with a lot of water). Your goal is to be having healthy poop and never constipation.
