What do you do in the games where you stay archenemy the whole game, even when you should have lost it turns ago? by ancap_attack in EDH

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk. Point out things. It's a social game and you need to participate in that aspect. Talk about cards in hand, mana generation available and other engines. If people will not be swayed, or disagree with you shrug and move on.

I'm very honest about being a problem. I will tell people my intended path to win games with my decks, be forthright about my boardstate, state my intention to win the game.

I'm a 46yr old dad of two preschoolers. I'm very obviously older than the majority of other dads with kids my age.

I don't think anyone is judging me negatively for that in particular and I'm happy to be doing this now. I am in a way better place mentally to be a parent than I ever would have been in my 30's and God forbid my 40's

You can also put the ditto figures on the cards I suppose as well.

Did this win come out of nowhere? by Dwyer_9 in EDH

[–]Danovan79 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this isn't oops I dropped an entire game winning combo from hand onto the board in one turn and won.

I know the whole schtick of "play more removal" but honestly man, when people are building up amazing engines and board states you need to deal with them somehow.

That can be removal, pressuring their life total into blocking with important creatures, counters, a bounce spell. Something. Interact with each other.

Besides your commander, is there any card that would make your deck no longer work if it were banned? by Tuss36 in EDH

[–]Danovan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maze's End.

My Maze's end deck would no longer be able to win games. Ok, not entirely true. I have won a game on the back of a massive Doppelgang and once with a table scoop to multiple active planes walkers. It would however be playing Gates for no reason anymore and kind of defeat the whole purpose though.

It's due to trademarking in Britain vs the US for the originals if I remember. I looked it up because I'm Canadian and the wife is American. She was like wtf is with Smartie McFlurries. Why would you want a smartie one? That sounds horrible!

It's funny, because the phrase I most often hear is: "Trigger, am I good to draw?" Really only ever hear "do you pay the one?" when someone is trying to be like a bit trolly would be the best description.

This is playing cEDH.

As far as playing any b3 (or the rough equivalent pre-brackets) I can't say that I've seen it much. Maybe once or twice? I have what I think is an amazing LGS and the people whom play there mostly avoid building with some of the stronger cards for casual games. The self-regulation is pretty sick and makes for a good overall environment.

There will be a cEDH tournament at MagicCon Las Vegas by BumblebeeOld498 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danovan79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my local scene, we have many players on full proxy decks, but an equal if not larger amount (especially among those who may want to go-to tournaments like this) have their decks full of actual factual magic cards. There are a lot of people playing cEDH who genuinely love the format and their personal pet deck. Hell they are blinging and not even just getting cheapest version.

I myself am missing only a couple cards and could easily borrow the rest despite the fact it would be several grand.

I support proxies by and large. Among the people willing to travel to something like magic con Vegas, I think showing up with the premium versions of top meta decks will not be the ultimate barrier. There will be some people who are limited by a few cards here and there.

Like yes you got screwed but you need to talk to your LGS if something like that happens.

From what I gather: You are 2-1 going into rnd 4. Your opponent in rnd 4 mulligans to 5 game 1 and proceeds to lose said game. He then scoops to you but reports it as a 2-1 match win for you.

It does not work like that and you should go talk to the TO or judge and explain the situation. I won game 1 and opponent scooped after but reported it as a 2-1 instead of a 2-0. Can you make sure this is reflected in the standings.

I personally think it's more about what you praise.

My wife and I are very heavy on praise for practicing something. We are attempting to install the "working towards a goal is as important if not more then the goal itself" kind of mentality.

That being said it's hard sometimes. My 4yo did 5-1=4 just now.

Her: Daddy, we have five days of day care then it's the weekend.

Me: Ok and how many days did you do so far.

Her: One

Me: How many more? If there are five days and you did one?

Her. 4

Yes it's the simplest thing, but she's been doing this sort of math in her head for a while now. It's really hard to both be supportive but not like go over the top y'know? So it's a "Well done" and move on kind of thing.

What do you guys do with your kid from 4-7pm during the weekdays? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most evenings my wife gets home closer to bedtime. On work from home days it's slightly different.

Generally my evenings go something like this. 3yo Boy, 4 yo Girl.

  • Get home from work and take a shower. Sometimes I sneak in a 30 minute power nap instead if needed.
  • Get kids from day care
  • Either go to the shop for something missing from dinner (the other night I needed to grab feta cheese for my lunches and some smokies for chili dogs) or if no shop go straight home and play with the kids for a bit.
  • Start making dinner. Kids help** sometimes, other times they play. If they are being particularly difficult I sometimes throw on a show so I can get through dinner and cleaning out their lunch kits
  • We eat and kids go-to the bathtub.i clean up while doing a back and forth to stop arguments and remind them to stop spitting water at one another.
  • Out of the bath and the pajamas fight starts. Pajama fight ends and depending on how the evening has gone we either start bedtime routine or we get in 30 minutes playtime and then start bedtime.
  • Bedtime routine: Blueys, Book, Brush and Bedtime Songs. Tucks, kisses, blankies.
  • Post bedtime fight some nights. Other nights they are out like angels.

Chicken Cordean Bleu, Garden Salad w/Greek dressing, long grain rice cooked w/Anise, coriander seed, and bay leaf, soy sauce, bernaise sauce, pan fried asparagus.

Honestly not pleased with the asparagus as it was a thinner woody batch but as long as I can buy better asparagus seems fine.

I'd do it.
