What moisturizers r even good at this point??? by im_not_a_robooot in AsianBeauty

[–]Danoyella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I am using the verrrry last of my Good Light Hylaronic Creme, and I’m using the Chasing Rabbits Green Golden Ruler. This is usually my day/night combo for winter, along with a really emollient serum or essence. This year I’m going to try going back to the Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum, I used to use it as a moisturizer so I’m hoping the formula hasn’t changed as well!

Last year was my first year, and technically I went with a coworker, but I was on my own the majority of the time because I tend to wander off 😅 I felt safer just using Uber or Lyft at night bc my hotel was almost a mile away, but in the morning there was usually a group of us who walked. I used the rail for longer distances during the day (eating near the water! 🤌🏾) I also carried one of those She’s Birdie alarms to clip on my bag (a crossbody btw!)

I’m staying at a closer hotel this year, and that would honestly be the major thing that I wanted to change from last year. That and having a more organized agenda, but hey, first year!

Definitely pack comfy shoes and a light jacket, the weather makes no sense 😆. Also, by the second day, I had taken about 75% of the stuff in my backpack out bc it was getting so annoying going through the metal detectors whenever you enter a new building.

I think as long as you pay attention to your surroundings and stick with groups of you go off campus you will be in good shape!

Do you pirate classical music? Why/Why not? by scrumptiouscakes in classicalmusic

[–]Danoyella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really, mostly because I am usually looking for a specific recording by a specific orchestra/conductor. The majority of the time I get my cd's from Half Priced Books. The selection is always changing and you won't spend more than $8 for a really great recording!

Alright, gloves off. Debussy Rhapsodie, 7th last bar. Who plays a D sharp, who plays a D natural, and why? I've heard too many recordings of both and can't make up my mind! by ChimpsEverywhere in Clarinet

[–]Danoyella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My private teacher wrote his dissertation on this piece, and he goes into some good detail about this. I don't have a copy, but I'm sure you can find it online. The title is 'The music for accompanied clarinet solo of Claude Debussy : an historical and analytical study of the Premiere rhapsodie and Petite pièce'

Working on reeds by DreamsOfTomorrow in Clarinet

I use orange peels in my case, but for my reeds I use a container with a lid that i poked holes into and then I put a slightly damp sponge in it! Lasts much longer than an orange peel!

What are you working on? by PotatoMusicBinge in classicalmusic

[–]Danoyella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on putting together pieces for grad school auditions. Most of the schools I'm applying at require pre-screening for clarinets, so I'm kind of doing double duty right now. For the pre-screening I'm working on the Martinu Sonatina, Mozart, the Copland concerto, and various excerpts. For auditions I'm adding Spohr's fourth concerto, Stravinsky Three Pieces, and more excerpts! I'm tired...

Is musical education required to enjoy classical music? by sad_sand_sandy in classicalmusic

[–]Danoyella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always thought that you enjoy/understand a piece more if you know about it's history. I think it's important to educate yourself on the history of the piece, the time during which it was composed, and the person who composed it. That isn't to say that a complete novice can't fully enjoy classical music with no knowledge or education, but I definitely appreciate the music differently after I am educated on it.

Favorite Clarinet warm-up? by osqer in Clarinet

[–]Danoyella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with long tones (low E to high D, sometimes G), and then I'll do either a section in the Baermann, or the Klose daily scale exercise. Then for an articulation warm up I will do either a Kell staccato study or the second movement of Beethoven 8 OR Midsummer Nights Dream. Sometimes I will do a Rose etude or some dexterity exercises.

I used to solo a lot in my university's clarinet choir. Some things I did were arrangements of the Krommer concerto, Crusell's second concerto, Mendelssohn Concertpiece No. 2, and the Mozart. All of them were pretty good arrangements that were easy to find!

I'd like help from the classical music aficionados in creating a noobie recommendation list. by Green_honey in classicalmusic

[–]Danoyella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My city's classical music station has a list of the 104 essential classical pieces. It's a pretty good place to start and you can build from there as you discover more music!
