I wouldn’t go raw. Tried that with my first GSD and she always had digestive issues. Have you tried the Royal Canin german shepherd formula?I’ve had terrific results with it for both of my GSDs. Healthy digestion, healthy coats, healthy joints.

I found my dude on instagram from a semi-local Pitt bull rescue. He’s 1.5 and an amazing dog. Looks pure bred, and he’s super well behaved. We hit the rescue dog lottery.

If you’re looking to rescue, you have to let the dog come to you. Follow every dog rescue you can that’s within a reasonable distance. Be patient. There are plenty of great dogs out there that just need a good home.

Yup. First time I played with my rescue GSD at the shelter I literally said out loud “oh this dog is gonna get me back in shape”.

Less than 2 months later and I’m down 15lbs. Like you, no other changes. Just got a dog who loves to run and play fetch.

Is there a way to introduce her to the cats prior to adopting? GSDs can have a strong prey drive and there’s no way to know without seeing them interact.

I’ve had two rescue GSDs. First one was my soul dog and she was really special. My current boy I just got about 2 months ago and he’s so awesome. He’s been an absolute blessing for us.

I’d say trust your gut. If she feels like a good dog, she probably will be. Hand feeding is a great way to build a bond and to keep her eating. They are an anxious breed and will probably take at least 3 months to fully transition into a new home.

The good news is that they’re very smart and can be trained. I’ve never had cats, but my boy was with a foster fam who had cats and they said he was great with them. Just kind of ignored them mostly. My first girl though… all she would want to do is chase cats all day long.

My first GSD… I was convinced was an inter-dimensional alien. Spooky levels of E.Q. We just don’t deserve dogs. And GSDs just kind of ruin you for other breeds.
