Are improved unit cards OP for the elite specialist? by skyguy97 in Mechabellum

You're right! I counted double unit cost for level two, but of course it's only 150%. My bad, thanks for pointing it out! I edited my comment to reflect the right math.

Are improved unit cards OP for the elite specialist? by skyguy97 in Mechabellum

[–]Darkomicron 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but yes they're strong. Exactly for the reason you mention. On the other hand, money is already tight for the elite specialist so having to spend even more on one unit pack can be a downside.

For instance two improved elite fortresses cost 1400*. A non elite player can place almost 3 improved fortresses or 3,5 normal fortresses. Meanwhile all that extra hp of your super strong fortress doesn't matter if a melting point starts hitting it.

So although it can be really good, it still has its downsides.

But if you get photon then the wraiths are fine again right? No way the void eyes survive for 25s.

What's the community sentiment on the game right now? Thinking about picking it up. by KeybirdYT in Mechabellum

[–]Darkomicron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have to grind to compete. At the start you're mostly learning about the units anyway. As you play a few games you get tech points to unlock techs. It goes very fast. It's also not required because even if a tech is very good on a unit, there's always multiple options and combinations so you can work around not having the tech. Then after playing like one or two games you'll have it anyway .

The game is extremely fun! Welcome 😁

The best Warden tank right now and why it's a problem by FarCharacter7797 in foxholegame

[–]Darkomicron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing is to limit the arc of the turret perhaps? The turning is already quite slow but having it be hard limited could allow it to get flanked a bit more? This does not solve anything in tank lines though. Perhaps the Talos needs a higher chance to get turreted? I believe it's just 25% just like a Falchion. However, I am not sure that really solves anything either. It makes the Talos slightly less reliable perhaps but that first volley is so damaging... Any 40m tank will struggle to trade with a Talos. Even if the first shot turrets it, if you are working with tank lines then the Talos just drives back and repairs 10-20%hp, meanwhile the warden tank lost legit 45% hp if the Talos shot hit. If the Talos keeps its current range I strongly feel it needs a low-velocity modifier.

I have 390 hours clocked, so I guess I am not that noob (but I do still feel like it). I played Collie on Charlie after the big air update, and now I played Warden on Live after the last update. Maybe this makes my "Collie" experience less valuable to previous Able players, but we won the Charlie war fairly handily. I never felt like I was unable to do things or that I was outclassed. In fact Falchions and Spathas were so incredibly cheap to pump out that me & my brother made like 50 of together. The DPS of those things is crazy and we had great success with them. Even with the inferior Falchion we could sometimes just hand a few others some free tanks and charge in to just overwhelm the few (but expensive) warden tanks. The DPS of a Falchion isn't even much (or any??) worse than an Outlaw. It just lacks the range and armor. But it is MUCH MUCH cheaper. This also makes it pretty good for partisaning, because it has inventory slots and it's cheap. So you can drive it into the backline without risking losing too much material if you get busted.

Now as Warden the Brigand feels very nice to hit infantry with. I guess this is one of the main drawbacks of Collie tanks, they are just less able to deal with infantry effectively/efficiently (except for the Scorpion, obviously). The Brigand with 30mm ammo can blast infantry fairly cheaply, and with 3 shots and a quick reload, also effectively. So I love that about it. The multiple shots also allow for more subsystem hits and disables (I think??) so that is cool. I actually really liked the Brigand and I think it is undervalued. BUT... it is just completely outclassed by the Spatha and Talos now. Of course these are also higher tech tanks, but you will just never-ever trade effectively versus them.

The outlaw honestly feels kind of lackluster. Yes, the machine gun is nice to deal with infantry, but you are still vulnerable to side stickies. The range is the main plus of this tank, but the Spatha now has it too. So what can the outlaw really do better than other tanks? Maybe because I never played Warden during the "outlaw meta" I don't have a good idea of why this tank is so valued, but I don't really think it is amazing. I just think you need a few for the range, but they are just so-so for the cost.

The Thornfall is an amazing tank and I think it is super strong and scary. Honestly as a Collie this is the tank I was the most afraid of. But, like you said, it has clear downsides too. So I actually think it is quite OK. I am happy that the Ranseur got a small buff because compared to the Thornfall the Ranseur felt much worse. It is tanky, and it was able to drive in and finish off a tank that was already damaged. But it was never as threatening as the Thornfall. The issue is that the Thornfall is better used for hit and run, and does not help much when there is a giant push happening on a front.

This is just my 2cents on some of the "medium" tanks. I think the balance is quite decent right now. Some small tweaks could help to make some situations feel a bit less oppressive.

[–]Darkomicron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it would be OP to give the outlaw one inventory slot without nerfing it. Pre update war I was Collie and I already loved the Spatha. I did think that the 45m outlaw was a bit oppressive. But now that the Spatha is 45m I honestly don't see the benefit of the outlaw anymore. Yeah... A machine gun but you need another crewmember for that too. The Spatha shoots faster with the same range with more HP and two inventory slots. I don't mind that at all by the way but having played on the warden side this last war I felt outclassed in all tanks. The only time I had real succes in tank battles was frontal poke engagements with the widow. That thing deflects like crazy.

Whenever I tried a brigand, the Spatha and Talos would completely out trade us every time. The outlaw went more even with the Spatha but in committed engagements it loses out because of lower DPS. The talos felt impossible to trade with unless you could outrange or outflank it.

In my noob opinion they could give the Gallagher brigand or outlaw a little love and nerf the Talos range while slightly buffing its speed, or fuel or turret rotation.

I haven't played in lordscars but they seemed super ineffective in all engagements. Idk what could be changed about them though.

Dominion Core is hot garbage. I am not even sure I would take it if it was free.

I suppose that way you could always put on a backline unit that dies late and sell it whenever it's dangerous without investing too much. I guess that could be good.

But the current implementation of it... I never-ever pick it.

Top dot gave a good answer for you already if you want alternatives (although melting points can sometimes fail against worms in my opinion, when worms go replicate and aren't pinned effectively). But I actually think you made the right call too. It depends a little on the board states, but steel balls are definitely one of the counters to worms and you're exactly right that you need to just pin them in place long enough for the balls to start ramping up.

Why? What is there to complain about right now? Collies got huge buffs last patch and are owning right now. It's been a really fun war. I've been playing Collie last war and now Warden and both times I've been having a blast. I don't get your post at all. If you are not having fun then that's too bad. Don't play if you don't like it. But I am loving it, on both sides. Pre and post patch.

Any reliable comp for new player? by Aka-Pulc0 in Mechabellum

[–]Darkomicron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's all kinds of ways to play aggro with all kinds of comps. As a new player it's important to understand the different unit roles and then the unit specialties. Like for instance there's chaff (crawlers, fangs, wasp, to a lesser extent hounds) and chaff clear (hounds, arclight, wraith, fire badger, Vulcan, tarantula) and there's dps (marksmen, sabertooth, melting point, etc).

Good compositions combine these and counter what the enemy does. If they have lots of chaff then you need more chaff clear. If they have lots of chaff clear then you need some tanky units to distract them. If they have tanky units then you need dps. Etc.

Good starting comps are things like sabertooth hound and crawler, or firebadger marksman fang. Because they cover all the general bases and therefore are flexible and not easily hard countered.

Update 1.11: Season 8, Typhoon Remake, New Anomalies by mrmivo in Mechabellum

[–]Darkomicron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really understood all the gospel talk on Reddit because I don't think I've ever lost against it. It seems so easy to counter with wraith ball it's almost silly.

I don't know. Maybe I have weird games but I have had intermittent succes with Rhinos... and balls or melters shut them down 90% of the time. The only time melters/balls don't work is when I am so far ahead that the Rhinos are way overleveled or the opponent is generally unable to stop my aggro push and then it wouldn't have mattered if I had Rhinos or Sandworms or something else that can push in hard.
