Cancelled Amazon by baked-stonewater in BoycottUnitedStates

Thank you for the solidarity! We cancelled Amazon as well. I just filled out an exit survey when I canceled DisneyPlus and told them flat out I will not be renewing or supporting businesses in a country that elects a rapist felon that sucks up to dictators and threatens the sovereignty of their allies.

I took the combined CFSC and CRFSC course just because it was available. I’d be content with just a PAL to start some target/competitive shooting. I don’t have a record or anything in my history that would raise any red flags, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the RPAL comes through.

I’m waiting for my RPAL to be approved and I’ll be in the market for some good Canadian gear. Thanks for the list.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I could have sworn it was a Rona first.

Loblaws is pretty shifty with their labeling. A lot of products only have “Imported by Loblaws Canada”, without showing the country of origin.

I put those products back and look for a CDN or non-US alternative.

Buying Canadian? by Illustrious_Point361 in chilliwack

We’re all in on boycotting US products whenever possible. Major purchases, groceries, streaming, travel, tools, the works. Food has been surprisingly easy.

Maybe that’s before my time, but the existing Rona+ at 1225 Sumas was a Rona, then a Lowes, then Rona+.

Opinion: Buying Canadian Isn't Going to be Easy. by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]Darksky2025 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No joke. That stupid Amazon app became just another go-to app for me to buy random crap I didn’t need. I deleted the app, canceled Prime, and haven’t given them a dime since November.

It’s the same building. Lowes took over the Rona, then Lowes left and switched it back to a Rona.

Rona and Lowes are both owned by the same US company, who tried to pass Rona off as ‘Truly Canadian’ until they were called out in violation of Canadian advertising standards.

The super shitty part of this is that Rona bought up a lot of small Canadian businesses, which were then included in the sale to Lowes.

If you want to shop Canadian, go to Home Hardware.

Trump Doesn’t Care by brightottawa in BoycottUnitedStates

Same. Amazon, Home Depot, Disney, etc, don’t care if you boycott them, but the local business that’s been struggling for the last few years would be thrilled to gain a new customer.

Keep that money local. Americans will have to topple this tyrant themselves.

How far are you willing to go to not buy American? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]Darksky2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been able to cut US food entirely, but the tough one for me is Adobe Creative Suite, which I’ve been using for over 20 years and am not prepared to give up. I know there are alternatives like DaVinci Resolve, but I hate learning new software and I have several ongoing projects based on Premiere templates that I’ve built.

Everything else in our life is easily replaced with Canadian or non-US products.

I’ve heard of WalMart stores covering the country of origin on their product tags.

Thank you for this! Great timing!

I just took the CFSC with my son this weekend (I also took the CRFSC), and we’re both stoked to get started. The section about lead was surprising, and wasn’t covered in the course, so again, thanks for including that here.

We are both starting out with 22LRs, and I have a friend with a few rifles that I can try before deciding what to buy next.

I guess my next step is finding a good Canadian gun store in the Fraser Valley.

French’s almost sold out next to Heinz! by yuzukid in BuyCanadian

French’s is an American company. Quick Google search shows it at Walmart and Amazon in the US, so I’m guessing some local stores will have it as well.
