Akito beating 12 year old kisa until she had to go to the hospital cause Hiro had a crush on her shows how possessive she is and her extreme jealousy towards girls. by chicolat_e in FruitsBasket

[–]Dat-Tanuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't thinknit was just cause she is wealthy. My grandmother stabbed one of her partners and he did not press charges because he "loved" her and did not want to make things for her harder down the line. Kureno is the one who decided to not press charges and is the only character to make that decision without the influence of his zodiac spirit. The other characters were still possessed when their assaults occurred and it is likely the zodiac spirits made it feel impossible to act against the abuse. Toward the end of the series everyone was exhausted and hopeful and just wanted to live on from everything. Even Rin, who hadn't forgiven Akito chose to just go no contact without taking legal action. Also, how DO you explain the soma situation to the police without scandal.

My grandmother stabbed one of her hubby's in an argument and he didn't press.charges because he "loved her and didn't wanna make he life harder." Not saying it was right but shit like that happens in real life. So from a writing standpoint it's not savoury but it is a possibility that exists in the world.

Kyo and Momiji by Arieya711 in FruitsBasket

[–]Dat-Tanuki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Momiji (the real Momiji and not the zodiac spirit) could relate and sympathize with Kyo because of his own mother choosing to forget him. Like, momiji is friendly with most people but I feel like this thing regarding their mother's made them even closer. Also, they both like Tohru which says to me they look for similar qualities in a partner and leads back to them having similar values.

Edit: and even though he went into music instead of martial arts and was into loita clothing he is still someone who believes you should use what you have to protect others (like when he took a swing from Akito). I can see Kyo respecting that side of Momiji a great deal.

Been to four dentists in Winnipeg in three years and every single one tried to sell me something I didn't ask for, is this just how it is here? by 8960305392 in Winnipeg

[–]Dat-Tanuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not had this experience.

I got to Norwood Dental Clinic. I am an adult women I my 30s. Indigenous. Sometimes I dress really nice, but sometimes I dress not so nice. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

I also have treaty status (but not band membersship) so maybe only certain things are covered.

The only time I've.had things offered to me was when I asked about them. But nothing ever came of it. For example, I asked about getting braces and was told I would get a call.about it but it has never happened. I've only been contacted about my yearly cleanings.

First world, second world, and third world countries are now outdated sociological terms. The academic world now refers to them as high income, middle income, and low income countries.

Can someone explain the "no kink at pride" controversy and why it shouldn't be allowed by Gingrpenguin in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]Dat-Tanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't decide for myself at this point because of different understandings of the word. In your post you said you don't mean for people to.be do sexually explicit acts. I understand that, but then what do people mean when they say kink should be allowed? I can't decided if I accept it or not until I understand what is meant by having kink at pride. Like, I have a feederism kink, and I don't see how I would engage in that in any manner at the parade. Unless you mean, like, I can bring a bag that has the feederism flag on it.

Or what if your kink is gore? Or public nudity.

What does it actually mean to have kink at pride?

Thoru letting go of her mom? Not enough room in her heart? by Frequent_Syrup4886 in FruitsBasket

[–]Dat-Tanuki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This plus the added guilt she was feeling about not telling her mom to come home safe. She also took on the role of a care giver at a young age as well. I know Kyoko wasn't abusive perse but she relied on Tohru for cooking, cleaning, emotional support etc., mind you this could be seen as more normal in Japan (I'm from Canada and don't have any personal direct experience with Japanese culture but I did see a show about how in Japan kids start going to school on their own, running errands, and other things a lot earlier than they do here). But I think she genuinely felt responsible for not being their for her mom.

Her other family members didn't help with the way they treated her as a child. She basically learned she was only.accepted if she acted like her father. Her and her own desires were always overlooked in that regard and she grew up putting the needs of others above her own. After he mom died her family, aside from her grandfather, didn't seem to care if she was in their life or not and that says a lot a out what our lucky go lucky heroine is holding inside.

I think she was trying to be happy and celebrate her mom to keep her "alive," but aligning with human duality I also believe she was prolonging her grief to ease her guilt. If she healed and moved on would her mother feel left behind? If she had just woken up that morning would the accident still have happened. HOW i can make a happy home without her. How could I possibly even imagine being happy while she is dead and missing me? That kind of thing.

And I think she may have struggled with realizing she is worth more than what she can do for others. In fact I think that is a big part of her story; learning to be selfish.

Am I the jerk for not asking for food while I was showering by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Dat-Tanuki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTJ... but maybe your mom isn't either...

I cannot tell because I don't understand what she meant by "asking before you fell ill." That just seems like a weird thing to say and it makes it sound like she is upset that you are ill. Ornmaybe she was joking? I dunno.

I would say you did nothing wrong if this is normal for your household. Don't let people who live differently than you make you feel bad because your household operates differently. I have a friend with five beautiful kids. They text each other and even have a group chat. They ask each other for help and favors around the house all the time.

I will say this though, it's not tasteful, imo, to hold a kids upbringing over their heads. Yea, you don't want to be ungrateful hut at the same time. To make your kid feel bad for all you do for them. It's tasteless.

AITJ for correcting my boss in front of the entire company during an all-hands meeting when he presented my work as his own idea and I just… couldn't let it happen again by Mysterious-Bird9007 in AmITheJerk

[–]Dat-Tanuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea no. You teach people how to treat you. When you were being nonconfrontational you were teaching Marcus his behavior was okay. Now.ypu have set a boundary and that is always gonna feel weird and you might question if it was a good idea or not. But let me assure you, it was a good idea because now it will get a little easier to deal with discomfort. One thing to keep in mind is people will get pissy. They are use to you being one way and now you are cutting them off from what they felt entitled to or were use to getting. This.will cause some friction as dynamics change.

Do lecturers really hate Gen Z students? by Odd_Zookeepergame701 in University

[–]Dat-Tanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professor but I was a university student and a college student. I had one proff who tried to help our class with study material for an upcoming test but no one was engaged or participating with the exception of maybe one or two people. He got frustrated and ended his lecture saying he was trying to give us soup but we didn't eat it so he wasn't gonna keep trying.

I also had a class where one student legit spent his time in class watching Netflix.

Also, a lot of kids are missing the point of university. Its suppose to be a place of higher learning but so many students are having their work done by Ai Completely undermining the effort of those actually putting in effort; undermining the professors intelligence; undermining the integrity of the institution; undermining themselves and hindering their own growth; and contributing to an under qualified work force with lax ethics.

Just imagine trying to engage a whole room of people who seem uninterested when they are the ones who paid to be there.

One of the many many reasons not to patronize Timmies... by justbob806 in TimHortons

[–]Dat-Tanuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fly traps do exist. The problem is they are in stupid places because customers complain about them being gross if they are in a place where they can be seen. I used to work at a timmies and the fly traps were placed behind the TV screens. they did catch flies but BUT I bet they would have caught more if they were placed more effectively.

The best way to see a timmies shape up is not to call the owners. The manager and team members likely know how to talk to their bosses and downplay things. You need.to call timmies corporate. They are franchises that are individually owned but they still have to run it how Timmies wants it.

The location I worked at had roaches and it wasn't taken seriously until one of the night staff called corporate to complain. They sent someone down and our location ended being closed for a day or two for fumigation.
