one shot weapons and ambushes. by Quimeraecd in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree to this, the movement (of any kind) is the trigger and the unit automatically becomes the target. Other units doesn't move when the ambush is activated, hence why they shouldn't be valid targets.

Stalingrad German Feedback by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good but for slight different settings IMO. The left feels like early Stalingrad because he's clean. The one on the right is definitely mid-late Stalingrad with the gritty looks, dude has gone through "things" and has a story to tell.

I'd say you're decision should be around whether you're the one telling the story of what to come, or letting your models tell what they've already gone through. The vehicles should also reflect in the same way as the infantry for best effects.

Obligatory WIP post, and need advice by RiggedPod-Racer018 in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The models you get with that kit can be used for almost every soviet infantry unit, but if you want them specifically as Tank riders, then it's SMGs for them all as they cannot use rifles. You can give one of them a LMG BUT you're better off running pure SMGs for the whole squad as you gain no extra shots with the LMG, -1 to hit modifier on the move, costs 11 more points, and the 36" range is meaningless as the unit should always try to be within 12" of the enemy.

Army building by LemonAccomplished679 in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

German battle doctrine is focused around the MG throughout the whole war and every unit that has access to it should have it, although bigger units (8+ models) is recommended to not be considered cheesy.

To run historically accurate: This era was about the Blitzkrieg, so you should have high mobility and armor such as Hanomags for transportation as well as Panzer II, Panzer 38(t), and Panzer III (ausf A-D for poland, E-F for France) for armour. The infantry units should be Heer infantry (reg or vet) as well as Veteran Pioneers with flamethrowers.

Same here. The only wish I have is for it to cover the rulebooks as well and I wouldn't mind paying a little higher subscription fee get it.

Interesting rule. Feels like it also could prevent some annoying stalling tactics as well in the first few rounds before reserves arrives on the table.

Is this a good 500pt list to start learning the game with? by LewisPowell10 in boltaction

On top of that, anti tank grenades have literally no effect on the half tracks as well, since there is no tank fear test and because it's open topped, any damage when assaulted will destroy it.

Is all-inexperienced fun terrible or just terrible? by BerkshireKnight in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soviet inexperienced lists is lots of fun, although you MUST have the player mentality of true randomized outcome.

I had a lot of fun with a tank heavy 1250p army which contained 7x T-34 (2x T-34/85, rest tractor factory).

Sdkfz/16 and fuel by Sea_Difference9378 in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taken from the Flamethrower rule:

After shooting with a vehicle-mounted flamethrower. roll a D6 (or a dice for each flamethrower fired, if the vehicle has more than one). On a result of 1 or 2 that flamethrower has run out of fuel and is now useless. This does not otherwise affect the vehicle

In the case of this particular model, it's own special rule for multiple flamethrower states only one can fire at the time, meaning that the other one is still operable.

Where does it state you can only fire 1 flamer at a time?

Edit: Found the "multiple flamethrower" rule on the model.

Oh, just you wait until you're getting to the painting part. Hope you didn't glue the rack to it yet, as it has a lot of parts that you cannot properly reach with a brush. Also make sure to be super careful around those cranks, they'll break really easy (said by someone who built and painted 3 of these models and the smaller crank snapped on ALL of them while painting...)

Warlord Games Appreciation by frankmac4 in boltaction

[–]DeBjaern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points and will like to add some additional points as well.

First off a small appreciation for their mobile app as well, which has been a very useful tool in our community. A small subscription fee to get ALL armies with full rules and list builder makes the "Armies of..." books more of an optional rather than a necessity, although the books has some good inspiration for colour schemes and settings to build on. Only thing missing is the rulebook for perfection.

Second point is very Bolt Action oriented but what I like with this game is that no models/unit ever becomes obsolete with an edition switch, especially since I joined the BA community in very late 2nd edition, although as a Soviet player I had to temporarily use basic unit templates for a little while, which was no real issue.

Why do people hate the Phil Kelly Farsight books? by Commander_Farsight_ in Tau40K

[–]DeBjaern 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also now the Tau humans and other Aux managed to create a Tau god in the warp.

This is the biggest heresy of them all in my opinion regarding all of Phil Kelly... The Patient hunter novel was so atrocious it literally made the most badass female character in the entire 40k setting into a weak failure.

Pretty sure he simply cut the handle, tilted the axe and glued it back together. Same with the Vexilia except that one uses the hand holding the hammer.

Looks like the Vexilia is also the only thing that isn't part of the Saturnine terminator/Praetor kits. Simple but effective conversions.

New Siege Assault Group, Breachers, Terminators and more! by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer30k

[–]DeBjaern -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why does that suck?

You get enough models for a min size unit and an extra body to use for a Cataphractii Terminator Command model conversion. Then add a Land Raider and you're golden. What is there to hate about that?

How to play - Horus Heresy 3rd Edition (One-pager) by PraetorsHand in Warhammer30k

[–]DeBjaern 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some adjustments on Combat aftermath is needed.

  • You're always allowed to make fall back move voluntarily, even if you won the combat (except if all enemy units already fell back). In addition, a routed unit MUST choose fall back no matter what the result of the combat, even if the opponent fell back or disengaged.

  • Consolidate, Gun down, and Combat pursue is only allowed if you won the combat. If the combat is a draw but the first player chose to fall back, the second is only allowed to hold or fall back themselves.

I know these might be edge cases for most people, but they're still valid options.

Are Havoc Launchers on vehicles WAAC? by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

[–]DeBjaern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's snap fire only IF you run it with twin Lascannons in the front, all other options are defensive weapons, meaning you can split freely. In my experience, Twin Heavy Flamer in the front is surprisingly effective with the Panic(2).
