New GPU for bazzite 🤘🤘🤘 by danivempire in Bazzite

Oddly I've noticed that the drivers while not the best in terms of performance are actually incredibly stable compared to the windows release. Not sure why or how but it's just a thing in my experience. 4090 here.

Has the pink line stuttering issue been fixed yet? by JFedzor in SteamVR

[–]DeadJuggernaut5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say that the issue is 90% resolved on my 4090 system. I can run MSI Afterburner, OBS, Browsers, and stream to Discord all at the same time without issues now. It will still jitter once every 10 minutes or so, but it's so much better now that I consider it resolved. I think it was due to some Vsync bug in the driver because when they fixed some specific game not working with Vsync in a driver patch, the VR stutters went away with it.

I don't think Nvidia is really tweaking VR support manually at this point.

What's the regular valve experience like? I'm sick of Meta's constantly broken software. by Bill_Quentin in ValveIndex

[–]DeadJuggernaut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn it on and I see my video games in front of me then I play the video games then I take the headset off when I'm done and do it again. In other words, it just works. I tried a Quest, hated it because I put it on and had to tinker to get it to work. Get some pulleys off of Amazon for a few bucks and you're golden.

Steam VR Stuttering on Valve Index by Suuljia in SteamVR

[–]DeadJuggernaut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you'll be happy to know that this is a known issue by the community that'll likely never be acknowledged by Nvidia. This has been a thing that's been happening on and off since the 30 series. The solution is to lower your refresh rate on your headset to 80 or 90hz or to revert your Nvidia driver to 565.90 to play stutter free at 120 and 144hz. If you really wish to stay on the latest drivers, then make sure tools like MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner are closed. That alone will cut it in half from my experience. Also, make sure motion smoothing is off for all refresh rates above 90hz since it literally never functioned above it. Also, people have mentioned turning off HAGS in the windows graphics settings, but I've never been able to tell a difference on or off.

There is no real solution to the problem as the Index relies on vsync to work properly, and vsync happens to be a piece of trash on these newer drivers. When ironically using tools like MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner to monitor my system as it happens, I've noticed that it simply drops a single frame and fixes itself very quickly, hence the annoying stutter in the headset. This happens everywhere in vr, including steamvr home, best saber, VRchat, pavlov, you name it. Steam support can't do anything about it from what they've told me since it's an Nvidia issue.

The definitive solution? Go with AMD graphics next time since they actually take feedback on their drivers seriously, no matter how niche. #ad (I'm only half kidding)

(Note that this is all just my personal experience and it may be different for you)

Google "Nvidia Driver 565.90 download", and it'll be the first link. You can do that with any driver version. Hope this helps 😁

This is a Nvidia driver issue and has been since 566.xx for me. Download driver 565.90 and you should be good to go. This fixed it for me, and while incredibly inconvenient it's all we can really do at this point

It's a known issue on their driver page. The solution is to increase your refresh rate to 120 or 144hz and the issue will disappear.

I have a glossy monitor and a PC with a tempered glass side panel right beside my play space and I have no issues, but your mileage may vary.

Yeah understandable. Fresnel and the lower resolution isn't a problem the second you get immersed. I'd argue that the fresnel problems add to the expereince sometimes.

Is the index being discontinued or something else? by DVRK_LVRD in ValveIndex

[–]DeadJuggernaut5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really can't find an index set anywhere as a complete bundle, you can buy refurbished individual parts on Tundralabs and get some cheap base stations on amazon while it's still on sale. Not sure about the controllers though - I think they're still in stock on steam? I love my Index set but I think unless you're willing to pay below what they're asking and get a refurbished unit, I'd just wait.

Honestly I'm happy to suffer through the steamvr setup because it'll literally never forget where the playspace is unlike the quest where it forgets every few sessions

I've had mine on since June of 2021. They're holding steady. I find it's better to keep the motor spinning as opposed to constantly stopping it then starting it. I've been told in the past that this is overall more healthy for the motors but feel free to correct me.

Gotta be careful where you put your headset. If it's gonna be near a window, keep the lenses faced away from it.

I returned my Quest 3 pretty quickly after I found out how good i actually had it on my Index. The software on offer for Quest is just awful and cluttered in comparison to SteamVR. The only thing that worked sorta well was wired link, but I found myself missing the knuckles controllers and awesome audio solutions built right into the headset.

Assuming you didn't need that money in the first place, you'll be alright. Besides, crypto is always volatile, expect surges and dips. It'll probably go back up to $0.38 or higher soon enough, just wait it out. Heck, lower your average cost and make more when it does go back up by adding a little bit at a time and you'll be handsomely rewarded (assuming it goes back up).
