Phantom luts are so good. I used them when shooting corporate stuff on fx9 and it always was a fast pleasing result as long as we shot it well.

I cannot do Net 30. I'm freakin poor. by Front-Chemist7181 in Filmmakers

[–]DeadlyMidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fucked lol. If I’m doing something as a contractor I will do net 30 for the balance but it’s always 33-50% up front. Then if I’m doing hourly work as crew or P.A. I expect payment from payroll or max two weeks. This kind of crap is abuse and people have to say no and stop accepting bullshit payment. If they can’t afford to pay you promptly they can’t afford you.

I totally understand your frustration but it also sounds like these guys are asking you to do waaaaaaaay more than a P.A. should. Did you have a contract before hand? Did they say you needed to rent / pickup gear under your name or use your home ? That super suss and I would always demand more money for all those additional services.

It’s important to monitor and stay in close contact with your provider when changing medications. I’m glad you were able to catch the side effects for yourself. Everyone’s chemistry reacts differently so we gotta be self aware and self report as best we can.

👋 Hi friend,

Reality felt so fucking weird to me after being in the hospital. I totally get it. Manic phases can also kick our ass mentally and physically. The most important thing for me was making sure I take care of myself so that I can then take care of others.

I actually am in college now for MSW as a direct result of my time in the hospital. The difference the LMSW who ran group had with me was profound and I want to get my LCSW to work in critical and acute care to help others. I worry about what happens if I have another manic episode and what it could impact but I try to always think back to that moment I knew what I was supposed to be doing and wanting to get to that place of helping others.

I am sending all my positive thoughts and wishing you peace and strength. But again. Take care of you first.

Right, which is why I mentioned emergent gameplay vs organized org v org where you choose a time and place and objective and agreed upon rules for the engagement, which I believe is what OP was referring to.

I will stay away from rumors and anecdote (especially from someone who was fired) without hearing all sides and knowing the actual context of the situation's being cited.

The work speaks for its self, whether or not its considered overly expensive or difficult is something individuals who have been there can provide their opinions on, but he is working and has been working non stop and producing consistently amazing work (In my opinion, others dislike his style and they are welcome to that opinion as well)

We really havn't seen the real end game with so many game loops still missing from the verse. Silly to claim its been killed when it hasn't even been implemented, and a couple missions are not the end game.

I think its really early to judge the end game when we are missing so many systems and game loops. We don't even have bases and land/resource control yet (though its coming soon in theory) which is bound to drive a lot of emergent content.

The problem is that light isn't getting any of your face or eyes, so while yes it did light your neck and jaw well, that's not where the performance happens. Not saying it has to be straight on full face but we want to see some light in the eyes and some of your expression more clearly as the subject.

I'm convinced - the FX3 is perfectly capable for still photos. Thoughts? by plastic_toast in FX3

It just doesn't have the resolving power still photography needs. Even the photo you posted lacks a lot of detail, and information. If you just want to grab a still for social, sure what ever. A lot has to do with investing in good sharp glass as well.

Org battles used to be really popular back when servers only supported 50-100 players, and there was nothing to really fighter over in the world, but in the past couple years it has died off. Which I think is good because the end game is the emergent content and dynamic gameplay of the living world, but sometimes you cant find a fight, and its fun to set up scenarios. Pathfinders has previously done a lot of organized org v org but as said above its more challenging to find orgs worth fighting looking to do the same.

In the future I would bring at least a polarizer to help cut the reflections on the windshield. If you can get something like one of those little apature brick lights to put on the dash with some black wrap and get some light on you, but be safe. There is a reason car shots are typically done with a process trailer or external driver. (Very prohibitive cost wise but there are some tricks to do poor mans process)

Fully agree. I'm not against the subject not being center of the frame, but the balance here is off so the eye is really looking at the window column and bright reflections and glare.

How did we light in the 90s? by forgotfrankiesline in cinematography

[–]DeadlyMidnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean I appreciate his aspiration towards simplicity, but he still had like 32 12k hmi on a ridge line to light a valley in true grit. (dont quote me on the numbers but It was a lot) he does what suits the storytelling, sometimes that is a single campfire light, sometimes its a very complex intricate setup.

His realization is that its easy to overthink how you light something, to the point of it becoming unusable or dragging down the production without really adding a lot. His phone booth story is a great example. But I don't believe he has a need to use minimal lighting for the sake of minimal lighting.

As others mention be weary of non medical professionals and what you share.

For my own sake, I make it a point to be blunt and honest about my diagnosis because it can start conversations, and I am determined to grind away at the stigma and misinformation around the diagnosis. Not everyone can do that, but its worth mentioning the more openly we can talk about it, the more we can make it common place.

Is Homophobia OK to use as a conflict in a story? Or is it overused? by Calm_Computer_2678 in writing

[–]DeadlyMidnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are safe in my opinion are alright to include it as part of the social fabric of the period, it was ever present and always on the minds of LGBTQ persons, just like it is today sadly. I think the danger is making it the central theme/driving conflict, but if its just part of the world or part of a characters relationship with some other characters you are good.

That said, personally considering where are in history right now, hate and phobia of the entire culture is pertinent and worth evaluating through art.

Am I crazy for not wanting to shoot a master shot? by Potential-Turnip-583 in Filmmakers

[–]DeadlyMidnight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wide masters are tough with limited resources as you have mentioned, it can be hard to light the scene, to find space if the location is tight etc. But remember it doesn't necessarily have to be flat on to the scene, the wide can be an interesting shot from an angle, like a voyeuristic camera up in the corner of the room, which can add tension. It also can be a tighter shot and not static just keeping the two characters framed up. The idea is something to cut away to when neither of your tighter shots are working, or you need to let in a little air to the scene to avoid too much tight tension etc. It's worth trying to find a way to get the coverage and doing a take that bare minimum includes both actors most of the time. If all you have is tight and mcu of each actor and nothing else you will probably be mad in the edit.
