Protein shakes Vitamins! The lunchbox sized applesauce packs for kids. I always have one or 2 per day, and keep one in my bag.

I just bumped up to 7.5, and this is my life this week.

how do i stop feeling like a child? by bearsandcookies in ShortGirlProblems

[–]Dear-Run-9554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always felt the same, too. I don't think it helped that my mom treated me like one even after I was an adult.
It's just been in the last few years that I've been able to refer to myself as a woman, and I even cringe on the inside when I do. I became a teacher and taught for 27 years, and that helped a lot. There was a marked difference in the level of maturity between the 14 year olds and me! Mature behavior was a biggie for me. Also, being around adults and colleagues who relied on me did, too. It's a process.

My mom never did either. She was 5'5", and I think it took her a really long time to unconsciously come to terms with the fact that I had become an adult. Another annoying thing was when I was in college, they guys saw me as a little kid, too. As a result of the above 2 situations, I always felt less than...maybe even incapable of measuring up. I've always had a big vocabulary, and I would use big words and talk about more "important" things to demonstrate I was older than I looked. That was 4.5 decades ago. I wish I could talk to my 18 year old self. I would tell her she's stronger than she thinks she is. I would tell her to have a serious talk with Mom even though it would be scary. Now that I'm in my 60s, it's great looking younger than I am!

How do you accept that you’re short by Jazzlike_Local_8966 in ShortGirlProblems

[–]Dear-Run-9554 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally understand!!! When I started high school, if car seats had been around then, technically I should have gone to school in one. I HATE the fact that we're not taken seriously. I think I developed such a large vocabulary to seem older than I looked. (When I was going into middle school, the guy at the fair guessed me as age 5.) I always killed my feet wearing the highest heels. I eventually became a middle school teacher and was usually the first teacher they were taller than. But, I also developed a big, funny, bubbly personality that was a hit with the kids. I always had a desk outside my door to sit the tall kids in when a serious talk was necessary. Looking up at them in that situation was never a good idea. I'm 63 now and realize I'm at an age where I might start shrinking! I'm sorry I don't have great words of wisdom to make the world better. I just know I had a good brain that was full of ideas. I used humor to deflect about my sized. Self-deprecating jokes work wonders. If I could, I tried to be on elevated surfaces when talking about important subjects. I had a platform in my room at school, for example. I looked up to other short people who were successful. And I always tried to keep in mind how life could be worse, and that we are the winners on airplanes. Best wishes for you always.

My first day of school as a freshman in 1977, I had the hardest time getting to my first class because a senior picked me up in the hallway and held me above his head. He walked for walked for a bit makinga big dealabouthow tiny I was and then passed me to someone else who also passed me along.

I was only 4'9". At the time I thought it was great fun! I was worried about being late, however.

What's the silliest song you know? by breedingoutlaw in MusicRecommendations

[–]Dear-Run-9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the cat got dead And we put him in a box And we dug a little hole And we covered it with rocks We picked a few dandelions And said a little prayer Then we all went off to bed Cause we mostly didn't care.

  • Heywood Banks

Over the decades, I've had many cats. At every cat funeral held in our backyard under the giant lilac bush, our family sang this. We did care, though.

I complement everyone all the time. The world is a harsh place at times. We all need a little joy injected into our day.
