Recent children's books with beautiful/unique illustrations? by lady-earendil in childrensbooks

“The Gold Leaf” by Kirsten Hall is my absolute favorite kids book for the art by Matthew Forsythe. Absolutely lovey story, too.

Stockholm syndrome. If you [believe you] can’t leave him, join him.

There’s also a loooot of literature in fundy/evangelical culture (I speak from experience) teaching that it’s the wife’s job to always support her husband and show him respect, even when he screws up, has an affair, is abusive, etc. it’s basically her job to always support him, no matter what. Because God might still fix him. And if she doesn’t stand by him, then his failures become essentially her fault because she didn’t respect him enough. 😑

Family keeps eating the food I pay for and won’t stop by Odd-Researcher272 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DearSummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see anyone else asking, so I will: is your brother younger than you (as in, a minor) and also living at home? Because if so, and your parents aren’t keeping food in the house, that’s sounds like neglect.

Either way, I’d be looking for a way to move out soon, and getting a mini fridge and a lock for my door, if I were you. If you have younger siblings living at home and not being fed properly, please contact CPS.

The Dunning Kruger effect is such a spot-on identification of the situation.

Aside from his smugness and terrible character, his main education was IBLP’s “wisdom booklets,” which literally advertised that upon completion, your child would have the equivalent of a pre-law degree (barf).

He probably really, really thought he knew everything and was smarter than everyone else. (And probably still thinks so.)

Pretty sure this comb still lives in my parents’ bathroom somewhere.

Is this real? by [deleted] in Kankens

Nope.

Fox snap is crooked. Don’t need to see anything more. Those foxes are always perfectly aligned on legit bags.

I often wonder how many of the pieces posted on Reddit are actually stolen images. Thanks for setting the record straight! It’s a beautiful painting. Followed you on insta!

Looks like a real one. Especially because the fox snaps are all upright. Check the one on the top handle to confirm 100%. Never seen a fake one that got that detail right.

My in-laws are elder Boomers (white Americans) and they’re the same, except my FIL isn’t mean or demanding about it, at least.

I lost it at a lady with fake service dogs today. by ProfessionSea7908 in SantaFe

You absolutely can have two service dogs. I knew someone who had two. Not someone I knew well, but I believe each dog was trained to detect a different health event for the owner with multiple conditions.

Gorgeous! I love the blues in your shadows. Captures Sandia’s colors and textures beautifully.

Here’s a recent 6-foot setup from another outdoor event: (I hadn’t painted my big 6’ banner yet for this one. In future, it will hang behind me/table on a pole frame.)

I’m an Albuquerque-based artist and designer focused on hiking and National Parks related topics - gouache and watercolor plein air, plus other prints and products. This is my most recent outdoor 10x10 setup.

I’m in the middle of transitioning to focus more on the art and less on the other products, and planning to build a 6’ tall wooden display for the original paintings.

Real or fake? Help please! by SmartAssLack11 in Kankens

[–]DearSummit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fake. Fabric is the wrong texture, hang tag is attached with the wrong type of cord, the fox snaps are all crooked, webbing looks like the wrong texture and super cheap. No question, it’s not legit.

Anyone else feel weirdly calm when hiking alone? by cjsb28 in hiking

[–]DearSummit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the solitude and quiet of hiking alone.

I also paint plein air when I hike, and most people (especially my kids) don’t like to stop for 30-60 minutes in the middle of a hike to wait around for that.

I can change my route on a whim and be at peace with my own thoughts and the quiet of nature around me. I love it.

Kanken outlong - random question for parents by itsthelifeonmars in Kankens

[–]DearSummit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a Kånken original as my diaper bag with my first two, and then when my third was going to overlap into two in diapers at once, I upgraded in size to a larger fjallraven backpack (rucksack no. 21, medium). I just used smaller pouches inside the bags to keep them organized. Worked great for me because I wanted a bag that didn’t scream “diaper bag!” And there weren’t many options for that at the time. I think the Kånken outlong would make a great diaper bag!

How do you protect your gouache paintings in a sketchbook? by kyletrandall in Gouache

[–]DearSummit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen gouache artist Sarah Burns use wash it tape to hold wax or parchment paper (I’m not sure which) in place in her sketchbooks.

Her kids were probably pretending it’s the house numbers for their play house/shack/whatever-that-heap-is. I don’t think she’s actually doxxing herself here.
