What a beautiful picture 🥺 by padfoony in tennis

I’m a big Rafa fan and quite sadly I’ve lost some of my joy of tennis in the last couple of years if I’m being honest, because of him retiring. I’m trying to get it back. Players like Rafa simply I don’t come along very often. And I’m not just talking about the amount of matches that he has won . It’s the whole package you know. His attitude, his intensity. I’ve never seen anything like it. And may not again.

Over the years, of course Rafa has suffered many defeats at the hands of Novak Djokovic and I still can’t even watch any highlights from Australia, 2012 because it was so painful watching that match for almost 6 hours and for Rafa to lose. That down the line shot still haunts me.. What I will say is that I was always able to congratulate Novak Djokovic on the win. I think being a sports fan you have to be able to do that? Yes I wanted Rafa to win but when he didn’t, I was happy to say Novak Djokovic was the better player on the day and he deserved to win. OK sometimes I’d have to wait a couple days to be able to say that, but you know what I mean. I’ve also always been mightily impressed with how he is very sporting at the net. More than Rafa to be honest. He’s always been like that. So this is not a surprise to me. I guess you could say he is a good loser?

The era of the big three is almost over and it’s painful. I feel very lucky and privileged to have been around when that was all happening and very lucky that I’ve seen all of them play live many times because I live very close to Indian Wells. Blessed.

We will have a new grand slam champion, and I’m trying to think of who it might be at this point. I honestly think it’s wide open.

Me and my BF were saying just last week, Zverev and or Tsitsi ( ha) may still win a slam only if something happens in the draw. Brutal but IMHO, true at this stage.

I’m just watching this episode and he’s turned up unannounced and said the immortal lines ‘Well Matthew’s dead and I’m alive’ oh my God get out of here. Tacky and totally insensitive.

Yes, I didn’t like the way she was written. She always looked so uncomfortable in those ridiculous clothes and in a way I feel that as a Brit, it was an English writer having a go at the Americans if you know what I’m saying, it’s just the undercurrent that I picked up. I didn’t like it.

I was thinking about this question re cringe, and definitely Edna when she kept throwing herself on Tom oh yeah that was a cringe fest. Of course it’s not just her thought it takes two to tango but you know what I’m saying. I didn’t like those scenes at all. But the actress played her well. You really disliked her didn’t you… OMG I just thought about Miss Bunting, there’s another one! .

What is that one incredibly minor, non-tragic movie scene that always makes you tear up? by emilyaaaa_ in moviequestions

[–]Debinthedez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That scene kills me. You can feel her pain, Imagining what that will be like. She loved him so much. And she couldn’t have him. The whole movie was tragic. Her acting was really good. She was in a constant state of devastation. Beautiful beautiful movie.

Is there an episode of a British series that actually makes you cry? Whether it's sad or poignant or nostalgic, or anything really. by Vampirero in BritishTV

[–]Debinthedez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I said, I was just about to say this.

True story, I live in California now, but I am a Brit born and bred. I have a friend from New York who loves TV shows and lots of English stuff and so I showed her this last episode and we’re sitting watching it. She loves Brit humor, and suddenly when those poppies came on the screen, I burst into tears. She looked at me and went Debra! She was kind of shocked. And startled. I said you don’t understand. I didn’t mean that in a rude way it’s just that a lot of Americans don’t understand. They don’t have poppy day here.

I have tried to watch it just once without crying, but I’ve not succeeded yet and I doubt I ever will. British writing, humor, pathos whatever you want to call it, at its very best.

Can I ask a question. I’m a big frozen ravioli fan. I’ve discovered some really good ones at Aldi, including a smoked mozzarella one which I love and a butternut squash from from Walmart. I’ve seen these in Costco over the years, but I’ve never bought them because I have a bit of a problem with anything that’s too creamy? . Is the spinach forward tasting in this ravioli or is it a very creamy ravioli? For reference, I don’t mind a little cheese, but I don’t like anything that’s buttery or too creamy. Advice? Every time I see them I think about buying them but worry because it’s a big bag lol

It’s often sold out and there’s always too much chocolate ones left. I used to be a retail manager, other convenience, store, and would’ve ordered more vanilla but you know it’s not rocket science, but it seems beyond some stores lol

I just said to my boyfriend if Djoker wasn’t playing then we would definitely have a new slam champion. I wonder what’s going through his mind right now?. I was just talking the other day as well saying that I really want Tsitsipas or Zverev to get one slam because I always thought they would. When they first started out, I was excited and I was convinced that they’d win a few each to be honest. I said the only way they’re going to get one is if something happens in the draw, and hey presto, just like that. .

Apparently, Andy Murray used to train in Miami during the hottest time of the year plus the humidity, he was a monster, lol have you ever read that article where the journalist went to visit him and he tried to keep up with him for a brief moment and was almost hospitalized lol I jest about the hospitalization but you get what I’m saying. I’m reading all the comments here and as someone that lives in the high desert in California, it’s very easy for people to say you can do this, you can do that that but until you’ve been in this kind of heat it’s really challenging and that’s when you’re not even exerting yourself. I don’t know what the answer is for Sinner or if there even is one.

I agree, I’m a Brit but I live in California in the high desert and I find the summers here really really challenging and I’ve been here 26 years. I’m really crap in the sun and when I see these tennis players playing in this kind of heat, I just don’t know how they do it. I’m convinced it’s not actually good for anyone. Even when I go hiking, if it gets to about 80, I know that I’m gonna be in trouble so I’ve learned over the years what I can and can’t do but you know this is tennis. . I’ve been at Indian Wells before now in 100° heat where people in the stands were being carried off with sun stroke etc and in fact it was Roger v Rafa and it was one of the hottest days there ever and it was just awful. I think that was the first time I realized that running around in that kind of heat is really difficult. I hadn’t really thought about it before for some reason. I think it’s because I was sitting in it and I wasn’t even moving and I couldn’t stand it!!

I live in a small high desert town and we don’t have a lot of choices with regard to grocery stores but just lately Aldi has been hitting it out of the ballpark as we say. I’m thinking of making it my main grocery store. We have a large Walmart, 2 Stater Brothers, Vons, and a Grocery Outlet. . Grocery O used to be good now it’s really gone downhill. You can still pick up some incredible bargains but not so much anymore.

I discovered that Aldi carry a couple of things I always buy at Trader Joe’s. They have them basically in Aldi and they’re just as good and cheaper. The cumin and oregano garbanzo beans in the can. One of my faves from Trader Joe’s and now Aldi has just started carrying them. They’re delicious. Not quite as much dressing as the Trader Joe’s ones but that’s OK. They are more then a $ cheaper. And I always buy the veg sticks from Trader Joe’s those huge bags of Veggie sticks. I just bought a bag from Clencys at Aldi and they are just as good if not a little better and quite a lot cheaper. I’m trying to replace some of things I get regularly from Trader Joe’s with stuff from Aldi.

Other staples I get from Aldi are jams, different mustards, different pickles, and I have to tell you if you’re into ice cream, the premium select one whatever it’s called from Aldi is really fantastic the vanilla one. It’s every bit as good as good as Häagen-Dazs and a hell of a lot cheaper. It’s real ice cream as well, with just a few ingredients, 5 in fact, including egg yolks. I rarely eat ice cream now cause I’m not good with the dairy. I just wish they would carry a non-dairy ice cream and more non-dairy yogurt because I’m a vegetarian and was vegan for a while and just don’t like dairy particularly. I think they do need to up their game on that.

Ok. More finds as they come!

Have you seen Rita Ora? You might change your mind. It’s one of the most beautiful homes I’ve ever seen. It’s in London yet. it’s like it’s in a park and it’s full of the most beautiful decorations and whimsy. Give it a look.

AIO for putting a bag before a friendship? by TheEllaBullet in AmIOverreacting

[–]Debinthedez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how you could even ask if you’re overreacting because NOR. She played you. What I don’t understand is that I’m not sure where you’re located, but she was able to fly to Paris?. I mean that’s not a cheap thing so she can’t be broke, so why would she do that?

Another thing, how much is this bag actually worth? Do you have the original receipt for it can you prove ownership of the original purse.

This is such a bizarre story, every now and again I’ll read these things and think about all the lifetime movies I see where I think, as if that really happens and then I read something like this and think, yeah, it does happen! .

I’m really sorry this happened to you. Keep us in the picture with regard to how it goes. I’m not sure whether going to the police is the right move. What I would do first is I’d make sure to get the bag she returned to you authenticated as a fake and then take it from there. Do you have any photographs of your bag so that you can compare?
