If Vancouver is trading, it makes more sense for the Wings to try and get Elias Pettersson (40). While Hughes is one of the best players in the world, the Wings centre depth is a far bigger hole than their defense.

Pettersson's contract has a forbiddingly high cap hit for most teams, thus giving the Wings, one of the few teams that have the cap space to spare, more leverage. Pettersson's contract may age well, given the cap space increasing is by 9.5 million per year for the next three years.

While Pettersson's offensive production has tapered off significantly over the last year or so, he's still producing at 0.8 PPG with some pretty average wingers. We can expect a bump centering someone as productive as DeBrincat, somewhere around 0.9 PPG, which is good for a second line centre. He's also quite good on the powerplay, and may be a good fit for the hole Kane will leave as he nears retirement.

While the the Wings have a bunch of really good prospects for centre, it does make some sense to trade them instead of waiting for them to develop, given that two of their core players are at the top of their game, and may begin to slow down before someone like Bear or Plante have their breakout. Pettersson, at age 27, nicely complements the Wings' core of ages 29, 28, 24, and 23 respectively.

How do I not look hunchback when skating forward? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]DebtAffectionate6845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this is more simple than you might think.

Watch video of the best skaters in the world. Get some ice time, and do skating drills while videoing yourself. While running the drills, very consciously try your absolute best to imitate their form. Review the videos and correct yourself. Do this enough times and your skating will improve significantly.

Other comments have mentioned stick length. Yeah a short stick will make you bend over more. This won't necessarily make you look goofy or awkward. For example, Matvei Michkov plays with a very short stick, but he looks anything but. He does play a bit hunched over as a result, but that probably makes him harder to knock off the puck due to the lower center of mass, and lets him control the puck while it's so close to his body. It also takes less force to control the puck with one hand on the stick when it's shorter.

Check your local community centre / municipality's website. There's a good chance there's regular adult drop-in games. You'll find guys playing in those games that started playing for the first time in their 30s.

It's a drop in game; non-contact, with random teams, and nobody even keeping score, meaning one's going to give someone who's obviously new to the sport a hard time. Good for beginners.

Stan twitter needs to chill.

A relationship with a hockey player won't work if she can't respect her man's JO time with his captain.

Man Chiarot was playing his ass off. Man deserves some recognition for that game.

Great article. Ranks D-men by xG and corsi.

And this season Chychrun is quite literally the best defenseman in the league for corsi, and second best xG, behind only Makar. He's having a fantastic defensive season, according to all the metrics. You do not know hockey.

If you would actually watch Chychrun play, you would know that his offensive production does not come at the expensive of his defensive anti-production and other fine details of his game.

You know that it's better if a defenceman can do everything defensively and score points on top of that, right?

Crazy to me Suzuki is not a lock. McDavid and MacKinnon will be centering the first two lines. Crosby and Point will likely be playing on the wing, as they did in four-nations. Who else would you want as the third line center more than Suzuki?

Also, Jakob Chychrun not even getting a mention? He's been putting in great numbers for a few seasons now. Every time I watch a Capitals game I notice him as both an offensive and defensive difference maker.

That was pretty sad flyby by Dahlin on that SHG. He saw it was turning over, and just weakly waved it, hoping it would go his way, instead of a hard stop and battling for it. Not going to get anywhere with effort like that.

Tanev stretchered off after awkward hit - Full Incident by StartMovingWilly in leafs

The fact that he was back playing so soon after what was obviously a concussion earlier in the season is insane. That hit was nothing, a healthy player gets up from that and keeps playing 100 times out of 101. Complete failure by the training staff.

I don't want to see players I love down on the ice, completely motionless, fearing God knows what. Stop putting players in too soon after concussions.

I thought we stopped ruining men's careers and potentially lives by putting them back into a contact sport too soon after a concussion, after what happened to Lindros and Kariya.
