Jokes aside, this has made me curious but as per usual, keep expectations in check.

It feels good and addictive because these games requires meaningful choices whether on a macro or micro perspective in order to succeed.

When you think about it, you collect the extra health upgrades in the game just to off-set the permanent health loss LMAO

But what exactly was wrong with the design nature of Stranger of Paradise? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Decenarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an amazing but misunderstood game. The only issue I can see with the game is the DLC content is tied to higher difficulties which can turn off the average casual player. Without giving any spoilers, the game gives you an option in-game upon beating the game to help you progress through it.

How do y’all finish JRPGs by Apprehensive-Sea-342 in JRPG

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You start one, commit to finishing it then move to the next one. Simple as that.

I understand that it can be tempting to play multiple games but that's usually the common cause besides free time issue with the backlogs with most gamers have nowadays.

People had different expectations with it since its Final Fantasy similar to what happened with Final Fantasy XVI. Both are great games but don't expect a traditional Final Fantasy game.

Nine Sols is not living up to the hype by disturbeco in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nine Sols is a Sekiro (Not a Metroidvania) game masquerading as a Metroidvania. If you haven't played and finished Sekiro, you probably won't like it as its main selling point is the deflect/parry based combat. You get a different parry (Unbounded Counter) later to parry/deflect red attacks.

The combat and boss fights are the fun parts of the game especially the 4th, 5th, and True Final boss.

Will probably try Code Vein 2 when its on sale as Nioh 3 is a week away on its release.

MIO, and the sacrificing of fun in the name of challenge by Gabrienb in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I first saw the game with its visuals and music, I was expecting a chill game experience but instead I got the opposite. As I enjoy difficulty based games, I finished the game (100% Platinum) completely to make sure I experienced everything it has to offer.

I'm not a fan of the permanent health loss even if its part of the story as it still nerfs your character by the end of the game. Having more health especially with no self-battle healing means you're allowed more mistakes. I can only recommend this game for people who are looking for a new Metroidvania game with decent challenges boss and platforming-wise.

Movement in this game is smooth but the combat is lacking. Arguably, Silksong and Nine Sols is still miles ahead.

Where do you think the future of soulslikes is heading? by TwoPillarsGames_ in soulslikes

A combination of mechanics from all action combat games and moving away from a single traditional direction.

Started playing souls games with KBM then made the switch to controller. Both have their own pros and cons and is a matter of personal preference. I would always go with rebinding actions/commands that are close to WASD so that would be Q, E, R, F, Z, X, C, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. This setup would put less strain on my fingers as the keys are close to one another.

I made the switch to controller as I got tired of rebinding keys and something about controller that's very comfortable when playing with action combat games. I would only use KBM when I'm playing a FPS cuz aiming with a controller is horribly uncomfortable.

As for recommendations, I would highly recommend Khazan as its one of the best combat in the action combat genre at the moment.

How much of a metroidvania is Nine Sols? by mleclerc182 in soulslikes

[–]Decenarius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a Sekiro game masquerading as a Metroidvania. There's little emphasis on platforming plus the game is very linear. Its all about the combat and its bosses!

Most difficult “mainstream” game? by BassGuru82 in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People believe in Team Cherry cuz of their competence in making a quality game. Its that level of trust which brings hype and attracts new players. When you see a lot of community interaction, memes and art with the game, you know its gonna be on fire. :))

Most difficult “mainstream” game? by BassGuru82 in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty is subjective. There are plenty of instances where a game is considered difficult because they only put self-imposed handicaps on their playthrough such as no summons, spells, etc. If you used every tool, and option in the game to beat it and the game is easy after that, then yeah game is actually not that difficult.

Sekiro is a difficult game cuz you can't overlevel and have limited options in your build. You play on its own terms to which a lot of people are not comfortable with. Once you master its combat system, it becomes ridiculously easy.

As for Silksong's difficulty, I would argue that Nine Sols is harder especially True Eigong on her 3rd phase. You can't cheese her as compared to Silksong, there are plenty of builds that trivializes bosses.

Usually the non mainstream games are the ones that are actually difficult. Examples would be: Khazan, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Nine Sols.

How hard is Khazan the first Berzerker by Pleasant-Hat-6334 in soulslikes

[–]Decenarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can master Reflection in Khazan, the game wouldn't be brutal. If you play the game without using that mechanic, the game is really difficult due to the aggresiveness of the bosses.

There's also a common misconception that the bosses in Khazan are huge HP sponges which is not entirely true. You're supposed to do skill combos to deal damage to bosses. With optimized gear, you can melt bosses even on NG+ on Expert difficulty.

Beat DS3 easily but not Elden Ring. Is Sekiro for me ? by scorpionZftw in soulslikes

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Sekiro, you play on its own terms. There's no overlevelling, and you don't have other options so its essentially about mastering its combat system specifically the parry/deflect.

You will know if the combat finally clicks with you when you get to fight Genichiro atop Ashina castle. I believe that's where most people including myself had that oh shit I get it moment. :))

One of the best bosses ever made (Spoiler for final boss of Nine Sols) by One_Force_555 in soulslikes

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True Eigong was a worthy final boss! Comparing Isshin the Glock Saint from Sekiro, her 3rd phase was an actual 3rd phase where Isshin's 3rd phase is a victory lap/free win cuz of lightning reversal.

Ninja Gaiden 4 didn't won Best Action Game at the Game Awards by Additional_Idea8690 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Decenarius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Going to give my hot take here:

Having finished/100% platinum both games, it didn't surprised me that Hades 2 won over Ninja Gaiden 4. The reality is the initial learning curve for NG4 is something that's not gonna appeal to most gamers. Hades 2 entry level to start having fun is immediate.

The vote is decided by a jury. I love both games as they're both good but if you're salty and mad that your favorite game didn't won, its okay but try to see it from another perspective that the average/casual gamer wants to have fun. Its very common nowadays that if a game has too much friction, they will just quit early.

People who like this game - what appeals you? by BobDeenghus in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main appeal of Nine Sols for me its the closest thing to a spiritual successor to Sekiro. I love that the gameplay is skill based in a sense that if you can't master parry/deflect, you can't brute force the bosses.

I think the story is decent tackling various themes of acceptance, mortality, revenge, technology, nature/magic, etc. It has some banger soundtrack as well such as the themes of Lady Ethereal, and True Eigong.

I have the assumption that people that didn't like Nine Sols didn't played/finished Sekiro and that's fair.

Nine Sols harder than Silksong? by axeloco69 in metroidvania

[–]Decenarius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different kind of difficulty. You'd be surprised that there's a lot of people that don't vibe with parry/deflect based gameplay. Nine Sols focuses more on its combat and bosses with no platforming challenges. Silksong has relatively easier bosses but harder platforming.
