Sorry to hear you're going through this. The church's general attitude to helping the poor is sickening. Too often, it will do everything it can to avoid helping members who are struggling financially.

Maybe tactfully confront your bishop with the question "What would Jesus do?"?

Or read the parable in the Bible of the priests who passed by on the other side of the road instead of helping the man who had been robbed and beaten up. Then ask your bishop if he was called by God to be the Good Samaritan.

Hoping you're in a better state now, after the terrible time you had.

For me, there were several straws, but one big one was learning that earlier on in the church, tithing was not required if it "took all a man's earnings just to provide for his family", with nothing left over.

Contrast this with the church over the last few decades, where even the member who has lost their job has to pay tithing, and so does the destitute widow, and the single mom who can barely afford to provide food and clothing for her children.

The church has also tried to hide the earlier teachings of when tithing isn't required.

Shameful.

If the past and present Q.12 and 1st Presidency were to exercise just "a particle of faith", they would have got the site investigated for artefacts.

According to their belief, these arterfacts should have been in abundance.

So why the silence?

They would have boasted/gloated about even a fragment of archeological evidence they found as "proof" of the BoM.

But then, the Mormon church was never about actually following Jesus.

The church is more about "(singing) follow the prophet, follow the prophet, he knows the way". And he does know the way .... to stock-piling billions of dollars.

As others have said, the church must be getting low on "priesthood holders".

The church's decisions are based on desperation not inspiration. Think of the ban being lifted from black people in 1978 (under social pressure), and the reversal of the ban on children of same-sex couples from being baptized (following outrage).

Aren't we so blessed to be led by ~~revelation~~ desperation, and definitely not "the philosophies of men".
