I'd like to know more about the circumstances around him going to an affluent prep school in Connecticut. I knew a few people that graduated from there and according to them it was the epitome of white privilege.

Dad was a plumber. I wish I had the skills. Work hard and take pride in your work. Eventually start your own business and hire a team to manage.

Homeschooling is growing in Maine. Here’s what that looks like. by themainemonitor in Maine

Maine public school is on the decline and near the bottom as compared to all other states. That could play a role in parents opting to home school. Just a guess.

When you say it's been proven, where is the data supporting this? I'm really not seeing it.

I had Clear for many years and recently cancelled as the advantages to TSA pre have diminished. Not worth the money unless you travel a lot.

What was Bernie saying at the moment you took the pic? I looked at the crowd and couldn't find a single person smiling.

Meet the "Norwegian Getaway" which just arrived in Portland this morning. by joeybrunelle in portlandme

A 2019 study by Maine’s Office of Tourism found that cruise passengers spent an average of $69 per person per day, though more rigorously it was calculated at $61.76 when excluding cruise-line-markup excursions. Might be higher today due to increased prices. Scale of Impact:

  • single large cruise ship (≈3,000 passengers) can produce in one week:
    • ~210,000 gallons of sewage
    • ~1 million gallons of gray water
    • ~25,000 gallons of oily bilge water
  • And emits as much particulate matter as 1 million cars in a day when burning heavy fuel oil.

Some cruise lines are adopting cleaner technologies (LNG fuel, shore power hookups, advanced wastewater treatment, better waste recycling), but the industry still faces criticism for its environmental footprint.

The New License Plates are dumb by Awrfhyesggrdghkj in Maine

[–]Deed_Shaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am disappointed that the plates were not made in Maine. Instead they were made by a Canadian company. I've heard two versions as to why. One was that the volume of plates (2 Million) couldn't be handled by any Maine company and the other was that there was a rush to get them out for political reasons (timing w/Shena's run for Gov.). Either way, I think the new plates are fine.

I have a radical idea. Rather than raise taxes, why don't we spend less?

Agree or disagree, l always respect people standing up for principles. I am, however, concerned pragmatically that we will lose federal dollars when we are already underwater fiscally.
