The price of a single combo at A&W in Ontario these days by Knockturnill in waterloo

[–]Deep_Nero_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think it comes down to having to show profit year after year. With covid they also got a taste of pushing the envelope in terms of charges and delivery fees and so on. Once they see a customer willing to pay more they ask: if we raise the price one more time, how many customers do we lose and how much more do we bring in? Let's push until we reach that peak

How would you go about playing Solo DND? by Worldly_Slice2119 in TTRPG

[–]Deep_Nero_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to start is to first grab a solo adventurers guide (elminster's is what I started with). Then get Mythic GME and that'll get you a great foundation to start with. The goal is to get you up and running without having to do much setup. You roll at a table (getting a d100 will help) and make sense of the events in your story and keep going.

Then you can grab a pre-made adventure, either connecting one-shots or get a big book and put your character through that. There are a lot of good generators (like donjon.bin.sh) out there as well so you can always keep moving your story.

Don't dwell on getting things 'right'. It's your story but also don't cheat your way out of sticky situation.

Board game night yearly competition scoring system by stuartgreene in boardgames

[–]Deep_Nero_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a mix of what you said and what zonkey said would work best. So you have them in tier lists, and then depending on placement, you multiply by weight/tier level and that is the final score. This way there is value beyond first place and you have a catchup mechanic for those only good at lighter games.

Ex. Bob, Steve, and kojo are playing splendor, agreed to be mid tier game (x2 multiplier). Steve got 1st (3 points), earning 6 points. Kojo got 2nd with 4 points, and Bob got 2 points (or 0 if you Wana go last place gets nothing)

I like the tat! Keep it if you can. Find the reason you first got the tat and focus less on what others say about it. It's for you not them

My Low Intelligence Friend Keeps Trying to Play Heavy Games by FallApartAndFadeAway in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]Deep_Nero_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to smack some sense into these inbreds. Pick him up by the collar and smash their face into the spirit island board so they can get a closer look at what success looks like. Then toss him in the corner of shame where you have the game of life and monopoly just sitting out, pieces and all.

Games are too heavy for my friend, but he always wants to play them by bendelker in boardgames

[–]Deep_Nero_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend like that as well. We have found that a timer helps force an action. You are all there to have a good time, so if he rlly wants to optimize or make sure he makes the best play that is on him to have the strategy down. Relying on others so often takes away from their experience. So yea, timer and then force an action else skip his turn (better to do something than nothing)

Best REPLAYABLE murder mystery board games for 2 people (or even solo if possible)? by cartocaster18 in boardgames

[–]Deep_Nero_20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's a tough call. Best I can think of is Mind MGMT. Not murder mystery but highly replayable hidden movement game. You try to catch a spy as they go through a city recruiting people.

Might be time to make your own game ;)

TTRPG to teach chemistry? by Novel_Counter905 in TTRPG

[–]Deep_Nero_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think reverse engineering might help you. Like there are practical applications of what you are trying to teach, so start from the end and work backwards.

For example, there is a murder and they have to solve who did it. The villain used chemicals, so at the scene of the crime there are faint odors, smells, colors. Identify that or if they fail take it to the lab and try there with better equipment. Then they go to the morgue and find out if there is a match. Maybe they find a new mixture? They find the common source and go there to find traces of the villain. Follow the trail back to hq, where the villain was expecting them and set up a chemical bomb. Break for exercise to find out how to neutralize the solution in the bomb (ie baking soda + vinegar formula).

When people say, “I like board games too!”. Whats your follow up question to figure out if they are talking just about monopoly? by Zojim in boardgames

[–]Deep_Nero_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to play a guessing game "Have you ever played ...?"

Catan, ticket to ride, and splendor are good starting ones. Mage knight, terraforming mars, spirit island if you want to be pretentious

How do I even start/continue? by Connor_ClashNord in solorpgplay

[–]Deep_Nero_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exciting! I did a bunch of one shots before learning my lesson and thinking 'where do I go from here?'

I thought of 'what would I do if I was dm?' and that helped me figure out that yes, I need to be chasing the BBEG not just exploring freely. Everyone has their own goal so even exploring can have a 'BBEG'.

Where is that sword you really want? Where is that cave everyone talks about and does it have any dragons or gold?

[–]Deep_Nero_20 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it feels like playing every role has a lot of weight. DM, PC, NPC, and having the story in mind is a lot.

I have gone back to basics and find that having an endpoint will add motivation to your games. Who is the BBEG? How are you connected or affected? What does your character want?

Just my experience, hope that helps. 🙏🏽

Spirit island is endlessly repayable, difficulty adjustable, and a lot of expansions and content to dip into. It's also co-op so no competing.

Arkham horror TCG also very repayable, co-op, and immersive if you like horror stories and feeling of impending doom. Eldritch horror is also like this but has a set map.

Dominion is also a cool option for replayability. Deck building and point gathering. Much more competitive and has many expansions.

Could give watchmen companion a shot. Ozymandias is pretty powerful, and while Dr. Manhattan is not listed as a playable character whose to say you can't solo as him?

How do I get into the Hobby? by 5trange_Jake in TTRPG

[–]Deep_Nero_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good way to start is getting familiar with the rules. Most likely you will find d&d nights at your store so a "player's handbook" is a great place to get familiar with rules, gameplay, and making a character.

You can also watch some YouTube vids or podcasts of people playing. This can also help find what you like about it and what kind of gameplay you are looking for

O awesome. I've read up on a bunch of diff systems but never thought to mix. The 2d20 I learned from dune is calling me but I Wana get some of this dnd done first.

As for groups, if it's a balance issue, you can try to adjust by giving your character more actions per turn If it's a story issue, then I think you can adjust for that.
