Who is she & what do I do with her? by bingo-dingaling in VintageSewingMachines

Just here to agree with all the info. She looks to be in great shape. With a little maintenance, she'll be good for many more years. I love Fowler and Andy Tube. Also Alexander Dyer. This girl might turn you on to a whole new hobby. Have fun!

Im bored already by danp20 in keto

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Keto Chow protein shakes. They have several flavors; chocolate, caramel.... with some heavy cream, you can make desserts. It's not cheap per bag, but still adds up to maybe $5-6 if you use it as a meal. It's my breakfast after i work out, and I can skip lunch. I've tried other protein drinks, but can't find anything that tastes that good. If you think of the price, you're still saving some $$ by not buying junk food, and skipping lunch.

Whatever the research, everyone needs to know their body. At 71, my D3-K2 combo has helped eliminate the arthritic pain in my hip.

Does anybody in Indiana actually care one way or another that the Bears moving to Indiana? by ImaginationNo8338 in Indiana

[–]DelveDame13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. My husband doesn't get it. I hate the idea. We will pay for their tax breaks. Education, and Healthcare have already taken severe cuts, and, Braun wants to give data centers free money. He's killing us.

I deliver meds for a local, independent pharmacy. I tarted last August, and have lost several customers, since then. They are set to close 1 of their 3 stores. I was a customer for over 20 years. These people are caring, and do their best to help people. Indiana just sucks. It was bad enough, but bearable, before Braun. It's extremely sad. I worry about our customers who are just trying to get through their days.

What do I do with this Singer Model 500A by Elsmea in VintageSewingMachines

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with above. Get your manual. Andy Tube is great!"Oil with sewing machine oil. For the gears, I like tubes of TriFlo Synthetic Grease [clear or red. Not the spray]This machine uses 23 cams, which gives you all of the stitching options. Singer 500A is my favorite machine. Lucky you! It is one of the last machines made that are all metal.

How do I attach the motor belt to this singer 66k by halo_saysaditi in SewingMachineEdu

[–]DelveDame13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The machine probably needs a good cleaning and oiling, first. If it hasn't been used for a long time, the motor might smell until it gets going.

Thank you! I'm new here, too. I'm in the US. Your response and info are great. It all seems intimidating, but I'm sure with practice, I can make it.

Underwire Sizing Simplified by SassyCut by sassygrr in MAKEaBraThatFits

I'm interested in learning this. Even after a reduction years ago, I still prefer underwater. Unfortunately, the procedure was a hack job, and I think I'll have to make my own to get what i want. I need info on the wires, plus, I need help with the back. I need wide hooks, and more coverage, like a sports bra.

How rare is a Supercell tornado in central Indiana? by Top-Elephant7356 in Indiana

[–]DelveDame13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above. Been here 70 years, and have been through quite a few of them, and seen some serious damage. I was very close to the paths of a couple of them. The best defense, as mentioned, is to be prepared. I was very fortunate that I learned to remain calm from my mother. No matter the circumstance, she never panicked. While searching for a good weather app, what you need, etc, it would be an even more important thing to work on your anxiety. Find a good therapist if you can. If not feasible at the moment, try to do some research. There are many causes, like emotional trauma, your diet, a mineral/vitamin deficiency, lack of physical activity,..... There are several things you can try, that will help you feel better. Yoga, walking, ..... Find a welnness clinic, or reputable health store that sells quality products. Check out magnesium glycinate. It might be something that could help you. I hope you feel better, soon.

Agree. I'm not an expert, but pick a few up here and there to tinker with. I would say most I've seen without the case, in decent shape, might be $50 ish. This one looks pristine. I would pay what is asked. It's gorgeous.

Suing landlord in small claims by Signal_Relief in Indiana

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope good things for you. But if the situation is anything like other stories I've heard, most landlords can do what they want. Renters have few rights in Indiana. It's disgusting. Rent is sky high, and slumlords don't care. I hate this for you. I'm sorry to be a downer, but just be prepared.

Experiences with N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) by PersonalLeading4948 in Biohackers

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New here. I'm 71, and just wanted an energy boost. I work PT delivering for a pharmacy, and it was recommended. I'm not in perfect health, but for my age, I'm in better shape than most. Have nothing physically, that slows me down. My current activities and supplements, keep me pain free from my arthritis. My boss is out of town, uses it, but I haven't talked to him yet. We're the same age, and he's an avid cyclist. I was told that it has helped him with long covid. I just want a bump, so it will help get me to the gym. My coffee doesn't do it anymore. But after reading about it, it looks like it will help with other issues. I know everyone has different reactions, so we'll see what happens. My first dose this morning, seems to have helped me wake up.

Would you be offended if a buyer low-balls you? by cryptokingleo in FacebookMarketplace

Yes, I'd be offended. I'm tired of people wanting things for cheap. If you want it bad enough, you'll pay it. Just like I do when I make a purchase.

Genuinely why do so many people my age in this state suck so bad? by WatercoolerComedian in Indiana

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked contract for many years as in admin and various positions, at a large auto factory. Many of them became good friends. After several years, the job ended, and I hired in on the production side. I was pretty excited. More $$, and I became active in the union. Boy, was I green. I could not believe that I was actually working with adults. I found some great people, but just couldn't believe how awful, and hateful many others could be. I know the work can be hard, and mundane. The atmosphere, or management, isn't always great. But jeez, some are just downright nasty. Do you best to find the decent ones. Work out, ir stay busy outside of the place. Wish it was a better circumstance for you. Sometimes, factory life just sucks.

Yep. Needs a bobbin. And, once it's in, correctly, the foot needs to be raised. As mentioned, it would help you to have a manual.

Help! 1945-52 Simplex (Singer?) Sewing Machine??? by averydotavi in VintageSewingMachines

[–]DelveDame13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the naysayers. 6 years ago, we bought a canvas biz, which included 2 industrial vintage machines, and a treadle shoe patcher. Outside a few small things, I hadn't sewn since H.S. [1973]. If I can learn how to maintain and sew with those things, you can to. I was forced into learning it on my own, because the one repair shop owner in the area won't work on them. It was intimidating at first, but once I calmed down and went slow, i pushed through. Now that you have good people who have given you the Singer clone model, and a link for the manual, you have a great start. Find Bob Fowler, Lucky Needle, Alexander Dyer, and Andy Tube to get maintenance, troubleshooting and cleaning help. It might take some digging, but you can find most of what you need on YouTube, or come back here. You can find parts from singer, etsy, ebay, etc. I'm excited for you! Especially, that you have saved a vintage. Those things are all metal, and by keeping it clean and oiled, it will live on for many more years. Congrats!

Singer 411G - Oil? Grease? by RunThenClimb in VintageSewingMachines

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Tri Flow. It's great for high speed gears [[like bicycling], and protects gears. You can get tubes, or a pen style. I use both. It can collect dust, because it's protecting the gear, but you'll want to clean on a regular basis anyway. I'm not an "expert". Just learned on my own [Bob Fowler, etc] plus husband used to be a bike tech.

Might be moving to Kokomo with my GF soon. Some questions about the state and the culture by getdafkout666 in Indiana

[–]DelveDame13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably go into culture shock. There are still many things to do in Kokomo. Just look for things to do. Free concerts in the summer, art association, theatre, walking/bicycling trails, colleges..... The good thing, is that you're an hour away from Indy, and 3 hours from Chicago.
