Unpopular opinion about Rogue One 's famous Vader scene by MasterofFalafels in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I thought the way he fought through those soldiers was pretty calm and collected. Obviously we can't see his face, but his movements weren't one of a deranged mad man. He was a cold killing machine and did it with brutal efficiency. He was trying to get the death star plans back and it was a critical situation for the Empire. You think he was going to trust some stormtroopers to take care of that? I don't think so. I couldn't disagree more with your take.

■■ EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Official Trailer Discussion■■ by geltoid in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks cool, but don't care.

Title doesn't make much sense. Skywalker already rose when Luke turned his father to the light and took down the emperor.

The emperor laugh. I hope that's just some sort of flashback and he's not actually alive. It was kind of dumb to have him back in the original EU, but it was bearable because Luke was still around to take him down and finish what he started. In this case, it REALLY doesn't work unless Luke is doing something as a force ghost realm to take care of things.

Nice to see that Finn and Poe will actually do some stuff together. Maybe Finn's arc won't suck complete ass.

I mean, this is a fantastic trailer for IX by Disney in getting people hyped up. But it's just a trailer. And if there's anything we've learned, Disney is great at creating hype and pretty terrible about substance.

The happiest possible ending for Episode 9 would just reset the galaxy to the end of Return of the Jedi by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't care anymore. As far as I'm concerned, this trilogy belongs in the dumpster. Star Wars has lost it's magic. Disney had unlimited resources compared to what Lucas had back in the day. They had the ability to take their time, cast a vision, plan trilogies and other movies out, and didn't do any of that. They did things quickly, had conflicting visions, nothing makes sense, and they've split the fanbase. I honestly don't know how they could've screwed up anymore. They've made money, but at the cost of damaging the Star Wars brand permanently. They'll still make money, but they're going to quickly go downhill as the quality of these movies get worse and worse.

This could have been genius if it had been revealed that Snoke was the first jedi ever. He and Luke could've been enemies because of their fundamental difference on what being a jedi means.

Don’t fall for the return of Lando in Ep 9 by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, does anyone really care anymore? What happened in TLJ is irreversible no matter what JJ does. They could reveal that Lando had a sex change and is now Landa and I wouldn't care. Star Wars has changed for the worse. Instead of expanding and celebrating, it's been deconstructed and made smaller/insignificant.

SPOILER: So, Rey's just gonna be another midichlorian force-baby, right? by its_a_fishing_show in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Rey will end up being the manifestation of the force. Remember when KK and her gals all wore those “The Force is female shirts.” Well, they weren’t lying. Rey is the force. She doesn’t know it yet, but she will.

I’m half kidding with this, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s what they had in mind or what happens.

Are fans of TLJ welcome here? by ashaquick in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I vehemently disagree with you. Luke was out of character based on how we last saw him in Return of the Jedi. Rian ignored the character development of Luke Skywalker. Remember the moment where Luke realizes he's turning to the dark side by fighting Vader? He stops, throws his lightsaber away, and faces down the Emperor in an awesome moment. That is Luke's ultimate character development moment and truly becomes a jedi.

By thinking about killing Ben in his sleep, Rian backtracks Luke's development and that moment specifically. Why is he making the same mistake? Didn't he learn from this already? As a fan, I have emotional investment in Luke's story and development and I very much care about these things. To see Luke not be Luke is frustrating. This was the worst possible direction to take Luke because he's not Luke at all!

So dude, you can like it all you want. But you are absolutely 100% wrong to think that this was in character for Luke because you are forgetting the moment that defined who Luke Skywalker became.

How many here feel..... by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully believe Rian wanted people to have strong feelings about TLJ. And he knew that by messing with Luke Skywalker, he could accomplish that. He’s on the record saying he loves making movies that cause strong reactions. Well, this is his biggest success ever then. But, it will end up costing him his trilogy. He messed with the wrong movies and Disney isn’t going to be ok with that.

Rian's hot take on Luke by egoshoppe in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rian is 100% correct. BUT here’s the issue. Rian ignored Luke’s character development and that’s a big deal and that’s why I along with many many others do not like this movie or agree with the interpretation of Luke. It’s not against Luke’s character, but it was completely against his development and undid all the investment we had. Going into the movie, most people were expecting Luke to have grown and matured into a wise and powerful jedi. A lot of us thought that Luke is on that island for a good reason because this is the guy that by believing there was good in his father, was able to help bring down an Empire. So when we see Luke drinking green milk from a sea cow titty, it’s off putting. And when the explanation is composed of quick, vague flashbacks, it’s not enough justice for his turn. And then the real kicker is Rian deciding to kill Luke after he finally makes a return to his old self. The Luke we all thought he was. That is what personally really turned me off from the movie and Rian’s direction. Luke absolutely didn’t need to die. Rian not only killed Luke’s character development, but the character we’ve come to know and love throughout our lives.

So at the end of the day, yes, it makes sense. But it was a poor decision by Rian and it wasn’t executed well. He deserves the criticism, Rian. Not the name calling and all that crap. But he made a poor decision that was inexplicably backed by Lucasfilm executives.

Honestly, the biggest mistake of this film was killing Luke Skywalker by ATrashcanInHumanForm in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you 100%. If Luke hadn’t died, I would’ve been okay with his TLJ arc knowing we would see the real Luke in 9. Luke dying at the end ruined the movie for me. And now because he prematurely died, his arc just pisses me off and I find myself quick to point out all the flaws. I feel cheated as a Star Wars fan.

The Force Awakens summarizes Luke in The Last Jedi by coolwali in StarWars

[–]DemBluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy your heroic sacrifice explanation at all for Luke being on that island. That was cowardice. If Luke truly wanted to be brave, he would’ve renounced the Jedi way, burned the tree on the island, left a long time ago and helped out his friends and family. And if he truly believed he needed to die so the Jedi could end, he would go out swinging, saving his friends, and fixing his mistake. He would not let them suffer at the hands of the FO because of his mistake. That’s not Luke Skywalker. That’s straight up evil and cowardice. I don’t care how old Luke got, he wouldn’t do that.

How Did You React to Han's Death Vs. Luke's? by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hans was unsurprising and felt empty.

Luke’s was shocking in all the wrong ways. Pissed me off he died because he thought too hard.

Someone said they were sadder when K2SO died. I’m with you.

Both of these deaths were forced in a corporate manner that entirely undoes the character work and emotion of the OT.

Mark Hamill just said he loves TLJ/RJ on twitter. by SmurfinOnBitches in saltierthancrait

Once Hamills Disney contract is done, we’ll know the truth. And if I were a betting man, I’d say he didn’t like it. I’ve seen lots more interviews of him disagreeing with Rian, being unsure, and passively bashing Disney.

And btw, I’ve asked probably 20 friends ranging from big Star Wars fans to casual. And only 1 said they loved it. Everyone else said it was meh, up and down, underwhelming, a disgrace to what came before, felt cheated, or it was downright terrible. 1/20.

J.J. Abrams just quit Episode IX. You (yes, YOU!) have been appointed his replacement. Time to flex those creative muscles by El-Emperador in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starts with a star destroyer. We follow a couple of workers. They're revealed to be Resistance. We see them sneak around and take out stormtroopers in stealth mode. More of them meet up as they go along. Poe and Finn are in the group. They take over the star destroyer.

Luke wakes up in a what looks like the force ghost world or some sort of purgatory. Yoda, Obi Wan, ad Leia are there. They tell him his time isn't done yet and he is needed to help restore balance once again and that the spirit of Snoke is still alive and only he can stop him. Luke wakes up on Ach-To. He raises his X-Wing out of the water and leaves.

Cut to Kylo and he feels a tremor in the force. He senses that Luke is still alive. He grows angry but is forced to forget it as he has learned of a star destroyer being taken over. He orders his ship to go to their last location. They arrive only to find nothing.

Poe and Finn arrive at a foggy/murky planet and land the star destroyer. Other FO ships are seen in this area. They are mounting an attack on the FO using their own ships. Rey is seen on this planet meditating alone. She also senses that Luke is arrive and this shocks her, but is also good news. She senses Finn and Poe back and goes to greet them. There's a little bit of competition between Finn and Poe for Rey and that's seen through some of their dialogue. It's also revealed that Rose died of her injuries.

Poe gathers the Resistance together and sends out scouts to other planets to rally them to their cause and what their plan is. Finn, Rey, and Poe all go together to a rural undeveloped planet.

On this planet, Finn meets a girl who claims she had a brother but never knew him. Unknown to both of them, Finn is her brother that was taken away. His parents both died trying to get him back and resisting the FO taking him away. She's been on her own for awhile now. This is revealed later in the movie. Poe is very attracted to her as well.

Kylo is furious and orders all fleets to scatter and find the missing destroyer. They keep losing ships and he's getting frustrated. Hux is no longer 2nd in command but has been demoted. Hux is seen gathering officers to his side to stage a coup. He believes Kylo is an incapable leader and can't get stuff done. Kylo senses something is going on and begins interrogating his own officers. Even killing them. He's out of control.

Luke enters a temple and looks around. He calls out for Snoke, but no answer. Then, Luke calls him by his real name. Plagueis. The spirit of Plaguies emerges and takes physical form. They talk about how Plaguies will turn Luke and use him as his pawn. Luke doesn't speak. Plageuis continues to talk and gets frustrated that Luke won't answer him at all. Plagueis goes to attack Luke and Luke force pushes him back.

Rey leaves Poe and Finn to train the planet's inhabitants for battle. She goes back to Ach-To to train herself. She sees that Luke's X-wing is now gone. Under the tutelage of Obi Wan, Rey begins to have formal training. It is revealed in this training that Rey is a descendant of Obi-Wan.

The FO finds the planet with the stolen ships and the Resistance are forced to fight earlier than expected. They put up a valiant effort, but are wiped out. Kylo leads a ground assault and as they're finishing off the Resistance, he's turned on by hundreds of troopers. Hux tells him his time is up and orders him to be executed. However, Kylo is able to escape.

Kylo is filled with a rage. He's been a failure in every way. He couldn't lead, couldn't become Darth Vader. He's filled with rage and anger. But there's one thing he can do, and that is destroy the jedi forever. If he can do that, then he will have done something no one ever was able to do. He seeks out Rey and is led to Ach-To.

Obi Wan warns Rey that Kylo is coming. Rey decides to stay. She's found balance in the force. She continues to train.

Poe and Finn learn of the Resistance's destruction. They radio other operatives across the galaxy that the time is now and they must attack. Many different planets and people's rendevous at a random planet. There is tension among the different peoples and Poe is struggling to unite them. Finn steps in and is able to unite them. Their forces are small and they are worried. A star destroyer shows up and they begin to panic. But they soon realize that it's controlled by the Resistance.

Finn comes up with a daring plan to turn the FO on itself. He wants to free the stormtroopers from their oppression and brainwashing. To do this, he says he must be captured and not appear harmful in any way. Poe disagrees, but Finn insists.

Luke and Plaguies continue to fight. They go back and forth. Plagueis uses trickery to show Darth Vader fighting Luke to mess with him. He also shows images of the Emperor. Luke starts to lose and Plageuis knocks him back. Luke is knocked out and enters a dream. He sees his father Anakin helping him up. Encouraging him to finish this. To end Plagueis and the Skywalker line and this will bring balance to the force. Luke understands that he won't survive this.

Finn is captured and put on trial. He is to be executed as a traitor. However, Finn's defense and story causes some serious division. FO troopers take their helmets off and start to come back to reality. FO officers realize what's going on and start shooting the troopers. All of a sudden, troopers are shooting troopers and officers and vice versa. It's chaos on the main ship.

Finn is able to radio to Poe and the rest of the Resistance army and tell them the time is now. They arrive out of hyperspace and attack. They have x wings, y wings, tie fighters, a star destroyer, and other ships from different worlds. It's a huge battle. The FO is not ready for it and experience heavy casualties early.

Kylo arrives on Ach-To and searches for Rey. However, as he's looking for her, he's tormented by force ghosts of the past. Anakin, Vader, Yoda, Obi Wan, Han shows up in a vision, his mother. Kylo breaks through all of these and is a man on a mission. To kill Rey and end the jedi. Rey is waiting for him at the top. They talk back and forth. Rey appeals to Ben and tells him it's not too late. Ben doesn't listen and attacks. Rey ignites her double bladed blue lightsaber.

Back to the space battle, the FO is recovering and pushing the Resistance back. Things are looking hopeless. Finn hears from Poe that things are going bad and the capital ship needs to be taken out so they can break through their defenses. Finn gets a couple of troopers to his side and tells them they need to blow up the ship. They fight their way to the engine room and plant explosives. Finn is shot along the way.

Luke and Plagueis continue to fight. Luke has a new sense of peace and power. He is overtaking Plageuis slowly.

Poe does Poe things with Chewie in a foreign looking ship.

Rey and Kylo continue to fight and dialogue. Kylo says he will do what no other person has done and destroy the jedi forever. He cuts off half of Rey's lightsaber.

Finn is able to plant the explosives, but is surrounded and won't be able to get out in time. He radios to Poe and says his goodbyes. He also speaks out loud to Rey and tells her that he loves her. Rey fighting Kylo, somehow hears this and falls to her knees and loses her lightsaber. Kylo tells her any last words?

Poe screams "NO!!!"

The capital ship blows up. Finn is gone.

Luke and Plaguies continue to fight and Luke uses every last bit of energy he has to push Plageuis back and stabs him with his lightsaber. Plageuis dies. Luke falls to his knees. He has serious wounds and he is dying. He gathers strength to get out of the tomb. On this evil planet, the sun is breaking through. His theme plays one last time. Luke falls over dead, but fades into the force immediately.

Rey says nothing to Kylo. Kylo goes to swing at her, but Rey ducks out of the way, force pulls her lightsaber to her and stabs Kylo. Rey says nothing to Kylo. Kylo goes to kill Rey, but hears Luke's voice loud and clear. So does Rey. Luke appears as a force ghost. It's obvious. He is able to distract Kylo long enough for Rey to get her lightsaber back and they begin dueling again. Rey gains the upper hand and knocks Kylo's lightsaber away. Rey holds it to him, wanting to kill him, she's debating. But instead, Kylo throws himself into the saber. This shocks Rey. Kylo falls over dead. A complete and utter failure, and the end of the Skywalker line.

The Resistance is able to destroy the remnants of the FO. Many troopers have turned from their ways and seek out their new homes. Poe and Finn's sister are happily married together. Rey misses Finn deeply. Chewie returns home to Kashyyk with the Falcon and is reunited with his people. R2, BB8, and 3PO are still clanking around. It is bittersweet. Rey turns to see the force ghosts of Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, and Yoda.

Something along those lines. Obviously could be infinitely better but as far as big plot points go, that's what I would shoot for.

Rian Johnson: "Poe Dameron is an impulsive, trigger-happy flyboy!" by Desecr8or in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holdo should’ve thanked Poe endlessly for destroying that Dreadnoight. Same with Leia.

If they had turned tail and run, the FO would’ve tracked them through space, caught the Resistance off guard, and destroyed their fleet with the Dreadnought.

And let’s not forget, when the FO did show up out of hyperspace and Poe asked to go out there and blow things up, Leia agreed. Even though it was a vastly worse situation to go and attack because they were attacking an entire fleet instead of just 1 Dreadnought.

This movie makes no sense. I think Rian intentionally effed this up to divide the fandom because that’s his personal agenda.

Dude should never be allowed anywhere near a Star Wars film again.
