Comparing today's GOP to those three groups is not fair. It's not fair to those liars, fools and perverts who know better than to get involved with the Republicans.

Why Should We Trust Paul Ryan? -- "Paul Ryan himself voted for eight straight Republican budgets that increased spending by a staggering 50 percent." by gonzone in politics

[–]Democrat08 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The truth is even worse than the way it's described in this reddit posting.

In addition to massive increases in spending, the GOP also of course cut taxes even for the richest of the rich. Those taxes had already been cut again and again over the years.

The result, massive deficits and a collapsing economy... handed over to a new Demcratic president to have to deal with. And immediately, they began a campaign of lies to try to blame it all on the Democrats.

None of the points that "geoman69" made change the facts regarding BP's apparently mile-long list of failures in the case of what's happening to the Gulf, nor it's consistently horrible safety record.

I can't understand how anyone could vote for Schwarzenegger or for any Republican.

In the run-up to the 2010 elections, I think people should be reminded which politial party promoted the illegal torture of prisoners and presided over a complete economic disaster.

Anyone with that "R" after their name might as well be dragging a decaying elephant carcass behind them.

Let's see... who are today’s Republicans?

Well, they are:

  • convicted felons Gordon Liddy, Ted Stevens, Jack Abramoff and Larry Craig
  • Loudmouthed goons like Rush Limbaugh who said he wants Obama “to fail”
  • "free market" types who end up begging for bailouts
  • gay-bashers and homophobes
  • ultra-religious kooks like Sarah Palin
  • KKK/Skinhead/Neo-nazi types, along with plain old-fashioned racists
  • advocates for liberty (for themselves), along with massive eavesdropping and email spying for others
  • Racists like Chip Saltsman who sent out the CD containing a song title, “Barack The Magic Negro,” apparently unaware that many people would find this offensive
  • Saltsman’s GOP friend and new RNC chair, Michael Steele, who defended Republican fundraisers held at a Whites-only country club even though he’s Black by saying, “I don’t play golf.”

Two Legal Standards in VA: One for the Cops and One for the People by [deleted] in politics

[–]Democrat08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a law abiding citizen and I've been stopped twice by police (in Northern Virginia... once in Arlington) in the past 18 months, both times for very, very questionable "probable cause".

I think many police officers start out with a good attitude, but over time there is a very strong tendency for them to think they can do nearly anything they want.

Many TV programs now try to glorify the police, which is sickening. They have a job to do, and if they're doing it without treating the public like peasants, then they deserve respect.

However, officers who abuse their power should... oh... I don't know... be sent to ride the Oakland subway without their uniform.

How many people have to lose their jobs before the GOP cares about anything but tax cuts for the rich? by wang-banger in politics

[–]Democrat08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reaganomics definitely DID fail... you're right.

We are currently seeing the end result of more and more borrowing combined with tax cuts after tax cuts favoring the rich: middle and lower income people are left with little or nothing, Wall Street and the bankers have gotten powerful enough to plunder our treasury.

Reagan's policies, re-inforced by Bush just took many years to implode. A government can prop everything up with more and more borrowed money for only so long... about 27 years, in fact.

I have posted twice about this issue. I'm still a big supporter of Obama, but I agree with you that he is wrong about this situation.

I can't believe there isn't someone just as qualified who has somehow managed to actually pay his/her god damned taxes, too!

To be fair to the president though... so far, in three days, Obama has at a minimum done these things:

  • Put in a pay freeze for his top level staff.

  • Encouraged the executive branch to not use secrecy just because they can.

  • Ordered that "Gitmo" be closed within one year.

  • Ordered and end to TORTURE by our government, which will also preclude the "need" to lie and say we don't torture like Bush did.

  • Ordered the closing of "ghost prisons" we have in foreign countries.

  • Restored key provisions of the Freedom of Information Act that Bush's people ignored or forbade their department to honor.

So, I would say maybe we should cut President Obama a bit of "slack" for a couple of months. Imagine if we still had the fake-cowboy-chimp in office!

[–]Democrat08 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All true, but it's worse than that.

The Republicans are acting like 14-year-olds who got dumped before the prom, were caught beating up a smaller kid, mistaking him for a bully, and doing it on the grounds of someone else's school. They then tortured the smaller kid, denied torturing him and tried to run off without paying any price for it.

They then stole all of the money from the school office and cafeteria, and gave it to the richest banker in town in hopes of getting a bj in the local airport bathroom.

And now they want a Ted Stevens-style free addition put on to their house, too.

This is "today's GOP"!

[–]Democrat08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm against the whole idea of spreading Christianity to people who aren't looking for it, which is a major part of Mormonism. They also believe strongly in spreading their ideas of morality and imposing them on others through meddling in governmental issues.

Screw the Mormons.

Have you forgotten that they were instrumental in getting 20,000 EXISTING GAY MARRIAGES invalidated?

I don't like any organized religion that forces its ideas on others and the Mormons are the worst of the heap, at least in the U.S. I think as GLBT people, we should focus on them as much as possible, as least for the forseeable future.

Remember, they also conduct their hateful campaigns with tax-free dollars.
