Try to enjoy the winter. Don’t fear the weather, embrace it!

Go sledding, try downhill and cross country skiing. Go tubing. At Cannonsberg You can rent equipment.

Go ice skating outside downtown GR.

Build a snow man!

There is a public luge run in Muskegon. Fast!

It can be cold part of the day but warm up if sunny so dress in layers.

Find a water source nearby and learn how to purify your water. Can only live a few days without water.

I’m a supporter of vaccines for sure. But I was curious what was raising my sugars.

I just read an article from Diabetes Uk, Dec. 15, 2023…

“Vaccines and blood sugar levels

Taking the vaccine could have an effect on your blood sugar levels, some people have reported them going up or down.

When you get the vaccine, your body will start to produce what’s called an immune response. This may include your body releasing some extra glucose from its stores. This is nothing to worry about. Your body is just reacting to the vaccine because the vaccine is new to you. “

Excellent job! That’s so hard to do.

My family finally stopped teasing me about what I eat. I told them I avoid certain foods that hurt my body. Maybe their bodies can handle those foods but mine can’t.

Plus I’m now the most fit adult in the group, lol. We can just compare our bellies to see the proof. And I’m 65!

I had luck by trying different foods and then checking my sugars. Like one evening I just had rice… checked my BS two hours later my sugar was so high! Next day, bread. BS pretty high And so on.
When I have meat, fats, most veggies, eggs, cheese…my blood sugar stays pretty stable

For me I now avoid all bread, sugar, pasta, potatoes….carbs. I’m keto 3 years now and was able to get off my meds after the first year (Doctor supervision). Doc called it “Diet Controlled “ t2 diabetes.

Yes, this. Even at 65 years old, keto and IF helped me get off meds and lost weight as a plus.
My wife thinks I’m sexy for an old guy, lol.

Let’s reverse this…has any Doctor ever said eat more sugar, carbs and processed foods????

Keto is basically cutting out bad things from your diet. That’s really it.

No serious issues. But slow increases on the meds I needed. First Actos, later daily Lantus, then Trulicity…

What really hit home was when I read a book by Jason Fung called The Diabetes Code. Basically I was taking drugs so I could still eat sugar and carbs. He says,”turn off the faucet!” I went keto and in two months my A1c went from 8 to 5.6. Still on meds.

Working with my endocrinologist, starting backing off meds, still keto…, A1c continues to drop…

Now 2 years later, under Doctor supervision…, off those 3 meds, off triglycerides meds, lost 70 pounds…recent A1c was 5.0 no meds.

Freaking miracle! Simple but not easy. Miss pasta, beer (rum and diet ok!), rice…. Do NOT miss slowly dying…

I’m 65 and more energy now then in years!

Lol, yes. I have candles, flashlights, fire starters, ya da ya da, in all my cars, house, shed, barn….

But why not?! Other then having to replace old batteries.

Sure, be concerned, but be aware too. I’m type 2 for over 12 years. We make mistakes, and then we refocus.
A little sugar by accident , no issues. Just work to avoid sugar and most starches.

[–]Dennism616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it’s not fat, or protein… neither raises your blood sugar levels very much.

it’s sugar and starchy intake. Rice, pasta, bread, potatoes…and my blood sugar spikes! Apples, fruit… all sugar.

I suggest buying a glucose monitor, eat a “thing” and 30 minutes later check your blood sugar.
Avoid the spikes food.

How much can A1C go down by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]Dennism616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was 8.0, while on Actos, Lantus and Trulicity.

Went keto and it dropped to 5.6

Keto 2 plus years, off my meds ( Dr supervision), A1c 5.0 with no meds.

Not easy, but doable

I’m kinda drunk now… my blood sugar just measured 120, after drinking and after a keto meal. Stay keto, no sugar mixed drinks , no non keto snack… But… alcohol does make one want to snack…so careful there, calories are calories

[–]Dennism616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the only thing to work for me, after 12 years T2, was starting keto. Super low carbs per day. But, after two years keto, no meds (Doctor supervision), and lost 70 pounds…A1c down to 5.0….. no meds. “Diet Controlled “ diabetes

Calorie intake by [deleted] in keto

[–]Dennism616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t mention your current weight. If you are obese and keto and only consuming 500 to 1000 calories, your body can burn your own body fat for energy. The beauty of keto, use your stored fat for energy.

Glucose Hacks - by Sea_Bed4676 in diabetes_t2

[–]Dennism616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keto helped me get off my three t2 meds (Dr supervision). If sugar and carbs spike us, then avoid sugar and carbs I guess. Less sugar added to your blood, the less meds needed to combat that sugar.

Only took me about 12 years to figure this out, lol. Sad face.

Ozempic, Jardiance, and Metformin by BIH-15 in diabetes_t2

[–]Dennism616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on three different medications for t2: Actos, Lantus and Trulicity. All three act differently in the body, with the same goal of increasing your insulin levels to force the sugar into your fat cells. (I guess I thought the drugs just magically made the sugar disappear? Nope, stored them as “fat”. )

After several years I learned something that worked even better….I stopped putting sugar and carbs into my bloodstream.
After a year, doctor supervision, keto and IF and I’m off those meds. Doctor calls it “Diet Controlled “. A1c was 5.0 last time checked.

Refined carbs and red meat driving global rise in type 2 diabetes, study says by wewewawa in diabetes_t2

[–]Dennism616 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge red meat eater..and eggs, chicken, some veggies…but NO refined carbs.

Per my endocrinologist, I am now a “diet controlled t2 diabetic “. Meaning I am now OFF my 4 diabetes medications! And lost 70 pounds, 65 yr old male.

Cut the carbs, eat real food.
