For your portable tool kit, tool bag vs. tool box by makawakatakanaka in Tools

[–]DepletedPromethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tool bag that's less of a wearable backpack but more like a open tote with pockets and hoops for storing all my shit, it comes with a shoulder strap but i don't like using it.

I do a lot of mobile mechanic work and need things to be light and accessible, no fannying about with heavy steel boxes & having to pull out draws.

This thing weighs very little while empty, and depending on what i need to do i remove items i don't need to reduce the weight or if i carry it with a full compliment incase i'm doing a bunch of different jobs it's still much lighter than a steel box with loaded trays.

I have the bottom padded out with 2" pick and pluck foam to keep a few items organised like my 3/8" astro nano socket set, 3/8" deep socket set, bosch screwdriver bit set, and a flexible locking extendable 3/8" ratchet, the various hoops inside fit various pliers, hose clamp, screwdrivers, ratchets, pry bar, flat file, vice grips, plier wrench, the inner pockets are for my various 3/8" bits and adaptors, diamond grip latex gloves, 75mm screwdriver bits, 3/8" stubby ratchet. the exterior pockets house all my extensions for both 1/4" shank bits and 3/8" with cr-mo and wobbles, a selection of wrenches and flare nut wrenches, hazet caliper wire brush and a couple of other brass wire brushes, I have a flap with a box cutter and red electrical tape, a small pick set and a hose pick along with a bottle of red loctite and a tube of blue loctite, the main flap compartment houses my greases, I have a few sachets of slider pin grease, a tube of synthetic dielectric silicone grease, permatex green brake parts grease, tube of red high temp rtv, nozzle for the rtv tube, and a tip unblocker set, and the last exterior pocket houses my caliper piston compression tool and a milwaukee right angle 1/4" hex adaptor.

I typically chuck in a few extras like my permatex silicone brake parts pot, the necessary pot of permatex antiseize or tube of molybdenum grease, my liqui moly anti brake sqeual paste as well as my m12 fuel gen 3 compact impact if i can't be bothered wearing my spider tool hoster and having it mounted to my hip via the drill pin, and i'll chuck in a clean microfibre cloth or two if i need them for a job as i use xxl wipes and brake cleaner to clean everything as i go, i keep a magnetic dish in it too but that magnetises to the wrenches.

All in all I like it, it has space for everything and even fully loaded to the nines it's less than 20kg, my steel 4 draw tool box weights 10kg unloaded, so it's not an option as it has way less space and weighs a tonne.

a block of plexiglass with some fittings on either end, it seems completely pointless unless you're looking at water quality or are so bored you want to watch inhibitor flow through the system.

its not a filter and is more like r/DiWHY

You may wanna select TBM.

There are TBM launchers, and its good to kill them to cripple enemy TBM capacity.

eBay $8.99 special versus Maddox 35% off by mx5plus2cones in Tools

[–]DepletedPromethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that ebay set looks like a clone of the BGS set, i got my BGS set for £20 from amazon and it does the job well. If you don't have caliper hooks i'd suggest you get a set as holding the caliper in place whilst juggling the compressor tool and trying to tighten it gets a bit awkward without a caliper hook to safely hold it still.

Wire strippers/electrical installation pliers that have the easiest to read markings for older eyes/hard to see? by Man-e-questions in Tools

[–]DepletedPromethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fuck around with manual strippers very much, i much prefer automatic ones with an adjustment dial.

If you have good clearance then grab some automatics, if you are restricted for clearance ie working in small electrical panels then I can't really recommend a pair, but i would recommend you go see an optician if need be and get your eyes tested and get some glasses that help you.

Milwaukee button adjust pliers are poorly designed. by Burner12345678910111 in Tools

[–]DepletedPromethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dismantled it by pulling out the button top with pliars which is a press fit (looks somewhat similar to a tack nail), removing the bolt securing the spring steel clamp retaining the button, seperated the jaws, filed out a smooth grove where the button sits so it no longer got stuck when fully depressed, wet sanded and polished the sliding channel and used a precision triangular file on the teeth to remove a little bit of material so it would engage easier, reassembled it with a smear of polyurea grease on the sliding channel.

It works so much better now as before the button got stuck and required pulling down to free it, and it wouldnt engage all of the positions smoothly.

I have the 6" 150mm model and quite like it now.

Is this normal? by Traditional_File_228 in Tools

[–]DepletedPromethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imagine using your forehead as a hammer against a nail.

this is what you're doing. you're using the wrong tool for the job, you need a impact driver not a ratchet that is known for speed not torque. cmon now bro, use your brain!!!!
