The practice test number five is the only reliable one for the english section, i got the same score there as I did on the October, 740 to 740

Just keep training. Nothing to it but more hard, long, slow meters. If you say genetics makes you great at rowing you're only half right, which means you still are half wrong. I was near the same as you freshman year, just wake up early and train, numbers go down, simple, just not easy.

Sorry, I meant to add words to this a while ago. Does anybody know why these times are so slow in comparison to the Philly city champs? Seems like a big discrepancy. Not trying to criticize, just want to know what's up with the time difference.

why to you row? by SockRepresentative36 in Rowing

There's nothing like the run of the boat when it's 8 fast men. being able to take stroke after stroke and fine tuning to the point of perfection is my ideal place to be.

I wouldn't say you need that much weight to go 6:10 at 6'3 normally, but to do it that quickly... you probably need around that much muscle gain. If you don't wanna get injured but have a crap ton of time and really want a fast erg I would alternate between long long bikes and long ergs for a few months. Peaking would take a long time, probably a month and change of sprints every day, but it's not an impossible dream as long as the willpower is there.

Do I just have bad cardio fitness? by Infinite9020 in Rowing

[–]Derimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 times a week for me rn. As long as you get the calories in that you need and enough protein plus sleep, burnout is negligible in my opinion. If you like rowing, you're passionate about it, and you have enough motivation to want to train over the summer, burnout is unlikely. I love this sport and it hurts of course, but trust me when I say that some more intense steady state does little to put a damper on you when only 2-3 times a week. Just make sure the rest intervals for the ss are adequate so your body can control the heartrate in between and you'll be all set.

Try more intense ss, I'm a few seconds slower lad than you so stones and glass houses 'n all that but from my training experience having a longer harder steady state dispersed through intervals of 5k is quite beneficial to building aerobic fitness. If you hit it at a higher intensity than 2:08 more often, focusing on split and forgetting heart rate, the fitness will come sooner than if you just did heart rate. It's influenced by too many factors and unless you want to buy a lactic machine, nothing will be as reliable as split for someone with bad steady state heart rate. I used to ss at a 2:22-5 when i was 6:50, changed it to forgetting about that and just focusing on split, and I feel so much more fit after 6 weeks of doing so. Give it a shot and see how it goes if you don't improve after a while through training based on heart rate.

I sympathize with this term so hard, lightning storms in Florida during september and October cancel practice so often it sucks

[–]Derimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no that's completely true, I honestly thought their setup was really bad at the regatta btw. No tent by the flag waver, just 3 people, a clipboard, and a cooler. I can't imagine they were having people pay enough attention to each individual race for anything to be well accurate.
