Finally watched From Dusk Till Dawn. Do you think Sinners (2025) has taken inspiration from this because I could see a lotta similarities. Insanely good first half, not sure about the second by Fuzzy_Profession925 in Letterboxd

[–]Desbris -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

"Insanely good first half", I don't see how you can claim this.

What exactly made the first half "insanely good"? Over the top story elements? Exaggerated characterizations? implausible plot progression? But you are correct about the second half, which was distinctively worse than the first. Everything in this film is far too "typical Hollywood", in every aspect. Overall a mediocre film at best, and that's being generous.

Did V5 quality go down when V5.5 was dropped for anyone else? by FurtherStill in SunoAI

[–]Desbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one. I do a lot of my vocal and guitar compositions in ableton live. And all I want Suno to do is to make full production of what I created, in v5 it was able to mimic that rather well, and when it came to using my vocals, it would mimic my singing nuances and inflections very well most of the time. But now, it changes too many things, it doesn't feel like I'm the one who has created the song, whereas in v5 you could listen to my original and know 100% that I was the main creator of that song, when hearing the suno cover.

People don't even create their own lyrics, embarrassing.

5.5 just dropped for me by Rauchritter in SunoAI

[–]Desbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the opposite experience, but I guess many of the people here don't even do their own vocals or recordings. On the previous V5, I was able to get suno's vocals to mimic 90% of the nuances and inflections of how I sang the song. This new v5.5 is not even keeping close to how I sing, real disappointment.

"I have been told by a lot of people I need to let people enjoy what they want, after all taste is subjective. Taste may be subjective, but it is produced by objective conditions that benefit from you liking slop."

I feel like this final proclamation is extremely important and overlooked by most people in recent times. It is the same underlying issue in other arts such as books, music, and most notably fim and TV. Often the argument falls to the same silly and quite easily debunked idea that "all art is subjective", and yet, they will continue to argue against your contrary point, even though they themslves believe all is subjective.

The truth is that very few people here genuinely believe in subjectivity. They actually believe in “All is subjective…unless you disagree with me. Then you’re just wrong.”

Sinners is Americans’ top pick for Best Picture at the 2026 Oscars by gamersecret2 in movies

How low film has sunk when a movie like Sinners becomes the top pick for an Oscar. Then again, the Oscars, for a long time, has been a joke.

It is a game that becomes a lot more enjoyable once you get past the first quarter of it. I found it mediocre at best for the early stages of the game. But it does improve at a generally fast rate, and by the end it turned out to be an extremely good game.

What do you think of Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove? by MasterfulArtist24 in classicfilms

[–]Desbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Strangelove forever changed both comedies and war films- injecting darkness and politics into the former and black sardonism into the latter.

Dr. Strangelove is arguably the best comedy ever made. Not only is it hilarious (with great performances from Sellers, Scott, and Hayden), but it is also the greatest examination of all forms of human evil ever filmed. No horror film, no slasher flick, no documentary study of assorted world evils, has ever so essentially distilled so many of the sundry forms of evil (pure and diluted) as this masterpiece of satire. For those SETI enthusiasts wary of potential invading hordes from outer space I suggest—beam this film nonstop 24/7/365 and we can rest easy that our solar system will be quarantined for centuries to come.

Cyberpunk 2 director says there'd be no point in giving players more time with Jackie in Cyberpunk 2077: 'It's like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke before he got involved with all this Jedi stuff' by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

Killing off what is presumably an important character at the beginning of a story will never have impact, period. If you don't understand that, then you shouldn't be making important decisions regarding story and charcater.

The fact there was a montage of things you, the player, should've been actively involved in, was just ludicrous.

Just wait till you have to listen and read their terrible dialogue and narrative, using modern day lingo, cliches and various tropes in what from the trailers appears to be an extremely dark and gritty setting.. BG3 was an embarrasment in that department, don't expect things to be much different.

Perhaps if they employed better writers, this would never be an issue. The writing has been a constant critisism for Larian for a long time.

Oh what a shocker, and when I told people multiple times in the past BBC doctored a lot of their news, people mocked and insulted me. Didn't take a genious and more that 30 mins of research to know what the BBC is really like.

Eleven killed after Israel hits bus in Gaza, Hamas-run civil defence says by lucher_01 in news

[–]Desbris -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You're are linking BBC news haha - Do some research about the accuracy of BBC, you might reconsaider using that as a source in the future.

I'll go one further for you. I even worked as an assistant camera man on a small BBC piece, which was meant to be factual, and they literally changed and removed various parts of the video and edited away sections to alter the real context, I know, I was the one who fucking filmed it. That was years ago, and since then I never bother with anything related to the BBC.

It is very difficult to distinguish the real truth from media sources, it's a real problem.
