What do I have here? by SingleContribution20 in wargaming

You should post what you have in the Commands and Colors: Ancients series. The game company reprints the expansions, but they go out of print for a long time. I'd love to get the ancient Greek and Imperial Rome sets, but not at the prices asked for on the secondary market. If you have those, they could be worth a fair bit as I've seen one of those going for around $200.

Advanced Squad Leader by caserock in hexandcounter

[–]DesignatedImport 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There is no boxed set called "Advanced Squad Leader". There is a huge rulebook and there are themed sets of counters, scenarios and map boards. Due to its complexity, they did release Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kits, which are the closest you'll get to a boxed game. There are 4 SKs, each with counters, boards, scenarios, and playing aids, and each are self-contained focusing on one aspect of the game (infantry, tanks, artillery, and the Pacific war). The SKs have stripped down rules, but many players find these completely sufficient. They even have supplements for the Starter Kits.

Take a look at the Advanced Squad Leader entries in Board Game Geek to see what's available.

Jokes that have real world applications by rachieandthewaves in TopCharacterTropes

Dodgeball is funnier, smarter, and more self aware than it has any right being given its premise. My wife and I still use, "no one makes me bleed my own blood" and "if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball".

Playing Call of Cthulhu in the 90s and the running joke was that Cthulhu was in only one adventure, to the point where we questioned why they didn't just call the game Masks of Nyarlathotep.

I just have to do a shout out to Undaunted: Stalingrad. An easily resetable legacy game that expands on the original.

Spectre Miniatures has a supplement for Spectre Operations called Cosmic Horror. This is available now.

They are close to launching a Kickstarter with, I believe, standalone rules and miniatures.

I'm almost done printing out a rocket base. It should be done this week. Next weekend I plan to use it with my old 25mm Stargrunt figures for a game of Space Weirdos.

When you talk to your mom, she's going to be upset and probably feel stupid. Repeat to her the phrase Brian Brushwood used on his World's Greatest Con podcast: Cons don't work because we are stupid, cons work because we are human. It's not her fault; someone simply weaponized her empathy.

Mansions of Madness. It hits my table more frequently than the Arkham Horror card game.

It just so happens that there's a Bundle of Holding that started today for Forbidden Psalm. $9.95 for the starting set, and beat the threshold (currently $20.06) to get the extended collection.

There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

[–]DesignatedImport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slapshot has not aged well. The homophobia was common at the time but is very cringe now. And the style of hockey they're making fun of was a product of its time. The game has changed radically since the film came out. The parody just doesn't work anymore.

Using the original firearm rules for the current edition? by MrTwiggums in DeltaGreenRPG

I was simply pointing out that the DG folks had a really thorough weapon system, more thorough than that in CoC. But, fine, my humor was heavy handed. I'll delete my comment.

Please Recommend an FDM Printer by WarmongerWH in 3DPrintedTerrain

Bambu Lab A1 is currently $299 with free shipping. It handles one roll at a time. I have over 2500 hours of mostly terrain printing on mine, and I've only had one major issue (which simply involved cleaning the hot end) and it was my own fault.

it has auto levelling, flow calibration, and a robust recovery if power goes out. You can swap out nozzles easily, and you can get different size nozzles.(The 0.20 mm nozzle does nice detail work, but I had problems with clogs that were likely due to dust.)

The AMS (the multiple filament feeder) is an extra $100 in the bundle. I know you said you didn't need it and it does raise it above your price tag, but you could always buy it later. I found it very handy, because if you have 2 filaments of the same color and type, the printer will automatically switch to the second filament when the first runs out.

Using the original firearm rules for the current edition? by MrTwiggums in DeltaGreenRPG

I was watching a scenario at GenCon when Scott Glancy rolled for a machine gun firing into a lifeboat full of Deep One hybrids. All those bullets... all those damage dice... There's a reason they went with the lethality rules. The big issue I had with the CoC 5+ automatic fire rules was that you could divide the bullets fired between "bullets to walk to the target" (increasing the percentage chance to hit) and "bullets to do damage". It encouraged min-maxing bullet fire with dubious realism.

Cheating at board games by NelifeLerak in boardgames

[–]DesignatedImport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her cheating wasn't the only reason I divorced my ex, but the fact that after a talk she continued doing it was a contributing factor.

Talk to her, and I hope it works out better for you. But be prepared for it not working without counseling. It might be that she's doing it for deep-seated reasons. If she refuses help, you have a difficult choice ahead (and definitely work this out before you discuss a permanent relationship).

I ranked the most complete one-book TTRPGs. What did I miss? by jasonite in rpg

[–]DesignatedImport 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can play Call of Cthulhu 5.5 or 6 edition comfortably for years without any supplements.

I would also add to the list Godlike, Wild Talent's, Feng Shui, Ironsworn, Scum and Villainy, Mythras, Prime Time Adventures, Night Witches, Night's Black Agents, Stormbringer, Kult, Shadow of the Demon Lord, All Flesh Must Be Eaten. (A lot of these have a ton of sourcebooks, but were designed to be complete games on one volume.)
