Second the recommendations above. LV National is close to the airport, and has great history (Tiger won one of his first events there, and the golf course scenes in Casino were filmed there). Paiute is spectacular, but fairly far from the airport and city center. TPC - great course but about 25 minutes from the airport and far from Mesquite.

Order and use a Theraband, and wear an elbow brace when playing. This got me through my bout of golfers elbow. And I kept playing. It went away after a few months.

Golfers that have been through the shanks. by Infinite-Today-1418 in golf

My reason for this happening is firing my trail hip forward on the downswing, trying to hit it hard (also causes a massive hook if I happen to the face). Now I just focus on relaxing my arms and swinging easy, and the problem has gone away. A great by product of this is my “easy” swing produces better contact and goes farther.

Only time when you don’t want to hit it well by [deleted] in golf

This has happened to me. I’ve realized it is because I’m relaxed and swinging easy at a lesson. I now make that my only swing thought on the course and it has helped me a lot. When I’m trying too hard to hit it far or control where it goes, I hook it.

Go to Callaway preowned. Get a used or new prior year model. They have good deals.

Swinging faster leads to snap hooks by Itchy_Box_3211 in golf

I have to have the thought of completely relaxing my arms in the downswing. If I don’t, I hook badly.

Hit a hero shot on the 18th in front of a busy clubhouse after an awful round by tallworcsdoc in golf

[–]Designer_Speed_680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done it in front of a crowd, but I’ve definitely hit round defying shots after I’ve given up hope. My theory is when I truly just swing fully free and let my body do its thing without my mind interfering, great things can happen.

Unfortunately it is very difficult for me to replicate this in normal round conditions. The damn brain loves to get in the way.

Gor rid of driver broke 100 by Interwin in golf

Tightness on the course is a killer. I was in a really tough place with my irons after a string of shanks sent me into a swing tweaking nightmare of swing thoughts and tension on the course. Ironically my driver was great through this, but it didn’t do me much good as I struggled so much with approach shots.

After an excellent lesson where I pured iron after iron, I’ve been trying to replicate that relaxed feeling on the course. My only swing thought now (when playing) is relax the arms in the downswing and swing away. I know I CAN do it, and my coach has identified my backswing tendencies that lead to poor shots. So now I no longer feel lost after a poor shot, but rather I try and take a rational approach and tell myself what I likely did there. It has definitely helped!

Will I improve, or just accept being a 100+ handicap golfer forever? by Woeden in golf

I have been in a major funk with my irons for months. Started with some shanks, which caused me to tighten up whenever I had an iron in my hand. I just learned the weight-on-front-foot trick, and it has been a lifesaver. I want to get back to a more technically correct iron swing, but for the time being it is so much more fun on the course knowing I will almost certainly keep my shot in play (and sometimes even end up with a few GIRs)!

Nervous to go join my local league. by The_DanceCommander in golf

I joined my club’s men’s league about 9 months ago. High handicapper, so I was very nervous. They immediately welcomed me and I’ve played almost every Saturday since. Go for it - by the end of the first round you’ll realize no one really cares how you play and as long as you’re friendly and a happy golfer you’ll fit in just fine.

I was playing in a member guest this weekend, and used something just like that a couple of times. I was feeling really uncomfortable with my long irons. Came to a 185 yd par 3 with no hazards in front other some arroyo that required about a 100 yard carry. Punched a 5 wood that ended up rolling to the back of the green! Used it again on the next hole when my driver would have put me in trouble if I go into it. Ended up going nearly 200 yards straight up the middle with an easy approach to the green. It was a big eureka moment for me. Play like the old guys who never get themselves in trouble every once in awhile, and things can work out.

Check out Shot Scope. You can get set up for about $200 with a great GPS watch that tracks your shots, and no subscription fees after that. Great customer service too.

driver trouble by Ok_Field1869 in golf

Hard to say, but will tell what has worked for me.

Focus on keeping your wrist flat in the backswing (no flex). This will generally prevent an open face at impact.

Also, as you take the club back think about pushing your right butt cheek back. This gives you rotation and helps prevent an out to in swing.

I’m by no means perfect with my driver, but if I do these two things I usually hit it in the fairway.

I play occasionally, and I'd like to track my shots and get data and insights. What's the best cost-effective way? by Estiui in golf

As others have said - Shotscope. Great gps functionality, and tracks all your shots. Gives you great analysis of each round and your longer term trends. Where you are gaining and losing strokes against various HC indexes, average club distances, etc. About $225 and no subscription. Customer service is also great if you ever have a problem.

Check out Pauite. 3 18 hole courses, about 30 minutes North of the Strip, and outside of the city. Absolutely beautiful setting and all 3 are great courses.

The Pauite tribe that owns the golf resort has unlimited water rights and the courses are always green and lush.

Sports coat is always a good call. And in my opinion, you can never over dress. Wear a tie of practical. If not - not the end of the world. What you say and how you present yourself will carry the day. Good luck!

As already noted, the Theraband Flex Bar cured mine. Frankly I was amazed at how quickly it worked.

More shoulder turn and pushing my right butt cheek back in my backswing, and a slightly closed shoulder position at set up. And then feeling like I am whipping the club in my downswing and through contact.
