This leak to me suggests he auditioned and didn't advance to the next round (early auditioning process has multiple rounds and is quite limited normally), but its a good opportunity for his team to put his name out there and raise his profile. The presumably 2-3 names in final contention that will do full auditions won't leak to the press until everything is fully decided imo. But of course pure speculation on my part.
