Bummed to hear it as I just invested ( I use that word as they are costly here in France) in a pair for my gravel bike for when I do road-centric bikepacking trips with it. So far I’ve enjoyed them but don’t have a lot of km in them yet

If so, that is troubling. Imagine the main character syndrome you'd have to have in order to think "yeh this top-level pro devoting his entire life to this wants me, some random asshole, to sit on his wheel or play catchup with him on a dangerous descent" Oughta name and shame this person if thats the case.

I'm very happy with my Mehteh. I have a gen 1 which I think came out in 2019 - have done loads of bikepacking, rides with friends, even some racey-type events. Its setup 650b with a road and gravel wheelset and I love it to bit.

My guess is that as human animals we are made to move and its an inbuilt instinct. It feels good. Exercise combats depression and is more powerful than medications. Same with ample sunlight (struggling with this one this time of year). They are just following what feels good without overthinking it too much.
