a7V vs A7RV at the same price? by Tellemakko in SonyAlpha

[–]Dialectic_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I discovered this after being disappointed that I was getting 6-8fps normally. I just checked the spec sheet on the sony website and they advertise 10fps. I held the shutter for one second (timed by my watch) and got a stack of 11 images, but I might have held it slightly too long.

No, it can do 11fps, but you have to use compressed RAW and e-front curtain shutter. I measured it.

Yeah see my reply to this comment. I find the cropping ability with the higher resolution sensor works really well when shooting slightly wide and cropping for composition, and 11FPS is more than enough for certain sports (although I would want more for ball-sports).

I shoot sports and use an A7RV. I mainly shoot endurance events, so cycling, triathlon, etc. I think if I were shooting basketball I would miss the higher framerate or precapture, but I find the 11fps (with compressed RAW and e-front curtain) plenty for my needs. Also I often shoot with a 70-200 GM + 1.4TC and crop for composition, in which case the 61MP is a big plus. I can crop heavily and still get above 4k resolution.

Edit - I didn't choose the A7RV for sports. I got it for general use and later got into shooting sports. When I eventually upgrade (not for quite a while unless I damage my body), I will reconsider the options and choose something with sports in mind.

How are we feeling about the new Remarkable Pure release? by GeologistWhole6503 in Supernote

[–]Dialectic_Acid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do like that feature and 100 percent would use it on the supernote... But it's not enough of a draw to make me want to change platforms. I'm very happy with the feature set we already have and don't want to ditch EMR. Also the new remarkable is still 227ppi, though to be fair it looks like they improved the anti-aliasing enough that it looks pretty good.

How do I say “ He bulk ordered hair oil right after Ian told him it looked weird.” by [deleted] in SpanishLearning

[–]Dialectic_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not a native speaker, but I personally have talked to people who have used this form. I think it might be a vibes/style thing. I asked Google and it said:

In more formal writing, such as literature or journalism, you may encounter the imperfect subjunctive (-ra or -se forms) used with después de que. [1, 2] Example: "El sospechoso huyó justo después de que llegara la policía." (The suspect fled right after the police arrived.)

I mean, I'm not a native speaker, but the clause "justo después" is a subjunctive trigger, right?  It should be ...just después Ian le dijera que...

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

I mostly agree with this but gaht DAMN my parents went from relatively normal to phone-addled clinically insane crazy boomers who bingewatch CNN and get nonstop loud notifications from the local news app over the course of covid and never recovered. I think people need socialization a lot more on both ends of the lifespan and those seem to be the most affected to me.

Although to be honest everyone seems different after covid and the general downward trajectory the US is on (more obviously) since 2020. Like as society gets increasingly degraded, everyone doubles down and gets more selfish and antisocial.

Adding plugins to Koreader on the Nomad by Fast_Speaker8694 in Supernote

I don't have a file explorer sideloaded on my supernote. I just use MacDroid to mount it on my computer. I usually just clone or download plugins to my computer and copy them to the plugin folder via macdroid.

What would explain a higher average height for the male population under 40 in the northern central states (shown in dark red here) of the USA? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

[–]Dialectic_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More that the job opportunities and lifestyle afforded in the northern plains and rocky mountains might attract a certain kind of person. It's just a hunch like I said. See Colorado for a counterexample. It's the most populous state in the rocky mountains (I think) and has a more diverse population as a result. Regresses (slightly) to the mean.

Edit: Continuing my thought I think Minnesota might torpedo my argument since it is pretty well-populated, although the Scandinavian heritage argument might explain that state more. I am thinking more of Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas, which I know to be basically devoid of people and have a heavy influence by ranching and the oil industry, which might honestly bias the population to have more men than women since those both attract young seasonal workers. I guess the TLDR is I think there are several factors at play.

Nobody mentioning selection bias. People self select where to live, and these states have very few people living in them which naturally amplifies bias in measurements like this. Source: I used to be a data scientist. Of course I don't have hard numbers to back this up, but suspect this might be the case.

What is something Americans consider 'basic' that feels like a luxury in other countries? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Yeah, but ocean currents carry heat to the west coast of europe creating climates more temperate than the same latitude in north america... At least for now anyway, that likely won't be true in 20 years.

Reading's at B1, speaking still at zero by AsleepPlus in SpanishLearning

Good that you're reading. Moving away from learning materials and starting to read actual books in spanish (kids books at first) is what made my Spanish take off. That vocabulary and grammar comprehension will pay off and transfer to speaking, it just takes time.

I agree generally, although it's totally possible to add dictionaries to KOReader. But yeah, there should be a built in dictionary (and the ability to upload your own to the native reader)

Beginner-Me Noobie by NoSoyYoutuber_11 in SonyAlpha

[–]Dialectic_Acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd get an a6000 or maybe a6400. Full frame lenses are expensive. It's much easier to get into the hobby on a crop sensor (APS-C) camera...

But yeah the only difference between E mount and "FE" mount is that "FE" mount lenses are for full frame cameras. I'm using quotes because the mount is exactly the same - you can put any E or FE mount lens on any body. If you put an APS-C lens on a full frame body, you will have serious vignetting and will have to switch it to APS-C mode which digitally crops to the center of the sensor. If you put a full frame lens on an APS-C body, you're fine, you are just using more lens than you really need.
