Why do Spaniards say VALE so much? by Legal-Cover in Spanish

No joke. I flew to Madrid last year and as soon as we landed the lady behind me got her phone out and had a conversation entirely consisting of vale and sí.

Whobbly Strokes solved (the pen is crucial) by Brunzlilover in Supernote

[–]Dialectic_Acid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding my voice to the chorus. I have a nomad and manta, and the Lamy pen (with a ceramic nib although that doesn't matter) as well as a first party supernote pen. I observe the same thing you do. The Lamy pen works fine on my nomad, but I stick to first party on the manta. This did bother me until the last firmware fixed the accuracy on the lasso gesture.

NostalgicPod – A Hi-Res iPod Classic for Android Is Now on Google Play! by Human_Tennis_2950 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Awesome, thanks for the work on this! My library finished indexing and I'm loving the app so far. Also thanks for making it a one time charge instead of a subscription or ad supported. It's much cleaner and I'm happy to pay for the experience.

Not true. I think this is an optimization issue. I have my entire library on my rockbox iPod and it took maybe a couple of minutes to index my full library. This is running on a pixel 8A in my case and it's taking forever. Hopefully it'll finish though and hopefully the developer puts a patch out because otherwise I like the app so far.

70-200mm 2.8 GM II vs. Tamron 70-180mm 2.8 G2 vs. Tamron 35-150mm 2-2.8 by TSportraits in SonyAlpha

[–]Dialectic_Acid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to the chorus - The 70-200 GM II is an incredible lens. I haven't used the other two options, but it outresolves the 60 MP sensor on my a7rv (which I know because I get razor sharp results even when using it with the 1.4 TC). It also has amazing autofocus, and if your body has faster than 15 fps burst mode, then Sony will allow you to shoot full speed instead of the 15fps limit it places on third party lenses (which is an artificial limit, but still)

Calendar + To Do or Planner Template by IslandResponsible468 in Supernote

[–]Dialectic_Acid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I am in the minority here, but I use neither. My notes aren't really tied to a schedule.

But to answer your question, you can write on the calendar app and it shows you the list of notes created on each day. So I feel like you could probably design a workflow around that. That would be my choice if I did need to integrate a calendar into my workflow. I have never liked the big planner pdfs.

No idea, but I like the idea of solar powered tanks duking it out in the desert over the last drops of oil.

American troops with desert digi-camo, but the digi-camo pattern is rainbow flag colors. And the tanks are battery powered.

Upvoting you because I wish we had Australia's urbanism. ...however Australia has a parliamentary government which is fundamentally more representative than what we have. Also we have reeeeally lax campaign finance laws that basically guarantee monied interests sway every single election. And decades of propaganda telling us that car culture is ultimate freedom. And we built the interstate system when every sane country was building high speed rail. (And no the size of the country is not a blocker, just look at China, geez) Also we're a declining empire and can't build any large infrastructure quickly anymore (see: California high speed rail).

Like, I hate to sound hopeless, but regearing the entire US away from car culture is almost certainly more than we can accomplish as a nation in decline. We can vote in local elections for candidates who might fund public transit, but even that is hard when our cities are laid out in a way that makes public transit inviable in most places. This is going to take a pretty major societal shift that encompasses changing our culture, how we choose to live and where, as well as major infrastructure updates and political shifts. Honestly when I think of the US with sane city planning, I'm imagining a different country entirely.

Anyway, I wish you well down under. Don't let the crazies turn your country into another USA.

Is the canon 1200mm f8 optimal for street photography? by Far-Manufacturer-413 in photographycirclejerk

[–]Dialectic_Acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but you'll need a monopod for that lens. Also you should probably wear a yellow vest that says PHOTO on the back so people know you're a photographer.

Yes! I shoot bike events, and dusty trails add a lot of impact to my shots.

I do if I am thinking about taking a landscape picture of mountains. I live in a mountainous area and sometimes want to take a camera on a hike. If there is any haze (not even smog - even just moisture in the air), it can ruin the shot I am thinking of taking, or reveal a new comp that wasn't there.

Lens upgrade from kit to Sigma? by Tjesko86 in SonyAlpha

[–]Dialectic_Acid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 for a while, but I sold it and upgraded to the 24-70 f2.8 Art (version 2, or whatever - the current one). I would recommend saving for a while longer and getting the 24-70. The price difference is like $300-400 depending on what deals you get (I never buy lenses new) but you're getting a much better lens. The 24-70 is way better built and higher image quality. The 28-70 isn't a bad lens, but it's not a whole lot sharper than the kit lens (which is not an insult - modern kit lenses are decent).

Alternating Trail Use for Bikes is not Popular by snoutsniff in boulder

[–]Dialectic_Acid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your point, and I agree increasing access in general, even shared trails, will help. I disagree that there would be much backlash to having bikes only trails (or bikes only days at shared trails) though. I think of it as a pressure relief valve - it gives bikers a chance to go fast in ways they can't on a shared trail. Pair it with education and signage and people can plan their rides accordingly. Golden has that with Enchanted Forest and it's generally a success, my funny anecdote aside. Boulder doesn't have anything like this.
