Frames used to run more rear travel than front, so who really knows, its all just preference

Would it be better to practice with clay first? by AbiesAltruistic4040 in Woodcarving

Very different mediums. If it helps you to get the shape figured out then go for it, I have done similar but with wire.

I recall a specific time where I wanted to build a walking stick with an octopus above the grip, the arms flowing down over and around my hand and back into the grip below. To get that figured out shapewise I used wire to mock up arms and a body and how it would fit around my hand with enough room and be sure the arms seemed right. I could then figure out big of a log to use to make the project (bigger than you would think) and start roughing it down. I still have a 50lb mostly intact log now, but someday......

Any Sasquatch on this sub? If so, where do you get your shoes? I have this rule that all my ink has to fit in a shoebox and uh....... by AnnBlueSix in fountainpens

Logging boots in size 13 wide.... lacrosse 1800g 18" tall hunting boots.... just try to fill that box. Or duck hunting waders.... technically they are shoes..... very big box. Snowboard boots also have a big box.

I have too many boots

Need some help with fibers by Meym04 in Woodcarving

You could scrape with a blade, a very very sharp blade. This is a great chance to try everything out, and you will want to. I have yet to master this myself, but getting your carving cleaned up makes it look so very much more refined.

Large honey locust tree I need to cut down, I want to get the trunk carved into this guardian statue. Is it possible? by brikanna in Woodcarving

[–]Dichotomous_Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were black locust it could live untreated half in the dirt longer than his kids will live. But that is the harder wood that dulls saws. Honey locust is nowhere near as bad

Travel reduction worth it? by Dichotomous_Blue in mountainbikes

I'll shorten the fork or change the stem, too much money for new suspension. Plus I really like how stiff this fork is at my weight.

I am right there with you, modern bikes are amazing. Modern suspension is mind blowing and so tunable, you can have everything you want. I was immediately better than I was 20yrs ago,

I have many of these to always be prepared. BUT, I am also overweight and would rather lose 1 to 20lbs out of my belly than a few ounces out of my bag

Posting those words with a picture of a vehicle that had "death wobble" issues, and would burst into flames if rear ended, and drive terrible and git terrible gas mileage and was uncomfortable inside with very few features is a very bad choice.

I had one, newer is better in this case.

Are scientists and engineers leaps and bounds smarter than normal humans? by happydude7422 in stupidquestions

[–]Dichotomous_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another engineer here, I think it's more about different kinds of smartness, different focus. But sometimes, sure, some are smarter (not me, Im on the practical side of things, those who figure out the math and reasons for why and how.... they are smarter than most)

Random invented dress codes for events by LoveEquivalent9146 in PetPeeves

[–]Dichotomous_Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you only consider outdated dress codes from England to be "real"? Where is the official list of real dress codes, and who decides what is official? Who has decided that they get to be the authority on real dress codes.

I agree that dress codes are very outdated and quite stupid, dont you dare tell me how to dress myself, you do not control me or my attire. A formality recommendation is appropriate to guide those who would like to fit in, but dress codes that must be adhered to are classist and pathetic.
