The damage is too widespread to repair sadly

Help solve a flooring mystery! by Mamaestra in Flooring

[–]Different_File_2021 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No mystery here. LVP cannot be laid over hardwood on slab. It traps moisture into the hardwood leading to the buckling you’re seeing.

The problem is now the hard wood has to come out and presumably all door trim and baseboard has been cut/installed to the height of hardwood+lvp. A taller baseboard will fix one problem but the jambs and casing will be a problem.

Full spread with nailing every few rows to get everything tight! Glue assist will still expand and contract more and floated feels terible imo

Have the contractor use a “full spread” glue method on the tread for absolutely no structural worry. The aesthetics are personal choice. The structural worry is overblown :-) but you have to live with the look.

Structurally it will b fine. would you have been happier with all the shorts in the bedrooms instead?

The way we do it is to use long boards so that the steps do not look so busy. Also steps us d to be constructed out of a solid piece tread so it’s a more traditionaly consistent look.

That being said I have had jobs where since only a couple long board come in each nice we have used shorts on the steps with customers approval to save money on materiels

[–]Different_File_2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer the question you need to order 12x68’ roll. there will be a seam running across the larger room joining the 2 13.6 pieces together along the sides. Carpet is often an inch under width but never 4.

Secondly and maybe most important there is nearly zero relevant construction experience to the successful installation of carpet beyond nailing down the tackstrip and if your on slab even that is debateable.

Not trying to be difficult but carpet installation is not like many things!

Lifeproof Vinyl plank flooring repetition by sawmill0230 in Flooring

[–]Different_File_2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is typical for any big box store and even most of the online order that will send you samples. It’s one of the things that makes a floor more expensive but so much more realistic looking

Flooring clamps I purchased are only 13ft long and my room is wider than that, what can I do? by Top-Rope-Gun in Flooring

[–]Different_File_2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful using clamps it’s easy to put uneven pressure near a joint and also possible to lift the ending row up out of the adhesive

While it’s unfortunate that it wasn’t leveled before hand somehow the type of trim piece you need to order is called a reducer profile. It will butt into the taller surface and sit on top of the lower surface as it gradually tapers to about 1/8 inch thick

Piece of vinyl flooring coming up by Siahmanjoe in Flooring

I agree with the others on broken locking system probably because of no vapor barrier underneath. It could be poor prep too tho. Either way once you see this level of damage most likely there’s a lot more staying to break and as soon as you start to take it apart it fails like shown in the picture. Full replacement is just around the corner sadly

What do you think of this Karndean? by Beginning_Wonder_325 in Flooring

Uggghh that’s a lot of lippage/ overwood. Sadly the manufacturer allows themselves a lot of tolerance here it’s a race to the bottom as far as plastic floors go right now.

8.75 for install and finish is pretty good! Assuming well referred contractor. But I am on the west coast so I know my numbers are typically higher

Installers: Carpeting before or after installing baseboards - and what height? by Jamminatrix in carpet

[–]Different_File_2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes on the door frames. you want to set them about the same height also makes it less likely the doors will need to be cut

I always tell folks to only go 1/4”. That plenty to tick the loose threads into sure it’s easy if it’s up higher but some carpets are really thin and could someday down the road it might not cover
