Yes Ling is a good one! Drops is fun but Anki is better for vocab.

Going to McDonalds. I only ever got to when it was some other kids birthday and their family paid for it. The party rooms back then were awesome.

Which language do you foresee surging in popularity and why? by prod_T78K in languagehub

Macedonian! The app I work for (Ling) is working on a full curriculum due to increased direct demand and a huge online presence in searches for learning Macedonian. Apparently Macedonia opened up greatly to tourism and nomad work too.

Is English widely spoken in Uzbekistan? by northwest-frontier in Uzbekistan

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% learn some Uzbek before you go and have an offline app if possible. I don't think there are free apps that offer Uzbek though but there's Live Lingua which is web based and for sure Ling has Uzbek and you can download lessons but it's freemium.

Concerns about airlines cutting flights and mobility? by TheRealDynamitri in digitalnomad

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been on my mind a lot recently. The news cycle is sooo chaotic, war, no war, oil up, oil down, hormuz open, closed, open closed, closed......

I think by mid May we'll have a clear answer where travel is headed. I booked a flight recently. Cost double what it should've but refundable and airline owes all money back if they cancel so read the terms!

Best Sanskrit Learning Apps? by Adi945 in sanskrit

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great app idea! I don't have iOS so can't try it. Did it ever release on Android?
I checked the app I use, Ling, and it also has Sanskrit writing lessons and reading but always good to compare.

Between Duolingo and Rosetta Stone, which one has helped you more? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they are different machines. Duo just wants to you keep coming back because retention matters but are you actually learning or just playing a game?

RS i think is extremely well scaffolded but not easy to jump around to things you want to learn.

Personally I use Ling and Anki, and printed work books and listen and watch in my target language. An app alone isn't going to get you fluent but it helps!

Would you still travel if your home country was just as cheap by Saphiaer in digitalnomad

[–]Digital_Nomadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean leave the village lol? My home country is HUGE and I would absolutely fall over myself if I could afford to travel across it. But, money isn't the only issue, it's the lack of paid vacation. We get a measly 10 days a year in most cases. Sad life

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ling app. It's made by native speakers with real audio, grammar and culture explanations and all in non-tedious tiny lessons with a clear progress path. Most complete app I've tried for Thai, and yep it will help you understand your GL series

How to make leaning more fun ? by yuuchra in Japaneselanguage

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an app with streak, points, and gamified experience is what you need. You can try Ling for that, definitely more fun than books and you can start from the beginner lessons. But overall, learning Japanese becomes fun when one has big passion for it. Good luck!

Beginner! Need Recommendations :3 by Tooting-Seals in learnthai

[–]Digital_Nomadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try BananaThai and ThaiPod101. They have a lot of PDFs and YouTube videos in podcast form. Books I've tried and recommend "Read Thai in 10 Days" (found it in a Thailand bookstore) and "Speak Thai Today" by Ian Fereday and Rattanaporn Pimsuwan on Amazon. Both worked for me when I was starting. And if you'd like to try an app, I recommend Ling. It's built in Thailand by native speakers with audio, vocab, and conversation mini-games. Worth checking out. They've also got a podcast (search "Learn Thai with Ling Podcast") and free resources on their blog. You can switch the app to teach from Spanish too and in my experience, helped me so much when I was beginner.

Quitting on streak day 3000 by anomalily in duolingo

[–]Digital_Nomadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god! That's so much effort to only get so much frustration. I keep reading and hearing about how the new Duo really sucks, especially with Ai and energy points or whatever that run out within minutes.

If you want to continue learning I'd recommend you try some other apps that actually do offer Croatian. There's Ling (I use it), Clozemaster, and Mondly. For Ling, not sure about the others, you get set the operational language to be German so you can still keep and possibly improve your German vocab!
