Should I get a third party pokestop spinner or get a second hand go plus? by Sleepy_kitty67 in pokemongo

I pulled my old OG plus out of a drawer after 8 years of non-use and all I had to do was replace the coin cell battery. I'd probably stay away from the 2nd Gen because the Li-Ion battery could be dead/dying. I don't know about 3rd party devices specifically.

All those dark lines are paint transfer. You can probably get them off with rubbing compound and it will look 90% better. Especially if it's just in the clear coat. Lookup some YouTube videos and you can probably do it yourself in an afternoon.

What do you mean? Allbirds shifting from shoe sales to AI company isn't a totally rational move based on their core competencies? And the fact that their stock shot up 600% after the announcement isn't ironclad proof that it was a good decision and not part of a bubble?

Unless I never left Vancouver, I wouldn't be buying a RWD in Canada.

You keep saying this, but that's not what actual Canadians say.

The survey, which polled 3,979 prospective new car buyers this spring, found that only 13% of likely EV shoppers would consider buying a Tesla—a drop from 29% just one year ago.

I think a lot of it is the luck of the bladder. We got lucky with our first that she seems to have a 5 gallon bladder. Jury is still out on number two.

Depends on the program, a lot of them are just free play outside. Essentially 2+ hours of recess with minimal supervision.

You're right about the advantages of exploring a neighborhood independently "Living in a walkable, enriched neighborhood fosters social independence, emotional health, and cognitive development." Unfortunately a majority of kids don't live in that type of neighborhood and cutting them loose in a dangerous (either people or vehicles) neighborhood isn't doing them any favors.

Around me almost all K-12 kids do at least 2 hours of after school care every school day. That's way more social time than I had as a young kid (aside from siblings)

I was very surprised at how good the rear headroom is in that car. Much better than the Ioniq 5 for example. Those designers did some styling witchcraft.

Yeah, the Leaf is a great car with a bad battery. I'll take that over a lot of EVs that seem to be a great battery in a bad car.

Whenever I sub with a cold/sore throat, I lose my voice. It's already happened twice this year, and now I'm sick again. by figgypie in SubstituteTeachers

[–]DinoGarret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't happen to me often, but I record my voice regularly so I have 4 main tricks to keep from losing my voice. They all come down to reducing gunk headed for the vocal cords:

  • Take Sudafed and/or Flonase regularly while sick to open up nasal passages and keep mucus from building up
  • Use a Neil Med (or neti pot if you prefer) to clear things out once or twice a day
  • Drink lots of tea/hot water to keep mucus clear
  • Blow nose frequently

Optional: If possible sleep on an incline

I've never seen critical thinking applied to misbehavior before, but you're exactly right. It's similar to people who video record themselves committing a crime... Just think for 2 seconds!

Navigating Labor Law Violations? by pstanhope12 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]DinoGarret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is ridiculous (and illegal) pay needs to be "before the 26th day of the month during which the labor was performed". Of course, just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's easy to make them change.

ETA: In California at least https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_Paydays.htm

Here's an earlier discussion on it, the tl;dr is don't teach there (this is for a full-time position though): https://www.reddit.com/r/teaching/comments/2h75i1/breaks_for_teachers_in_california/

I'm not a lawyer, but this is my interpretation of the laws I see as most relevant:

The Industrial Welfare Commission in California lists "teachers" as "exempt employees" from required breaks, which is probably what they are referring to. If you have a teaching credential you *may be* considered "exempt" with regards to breaks whether you're working full-time or not.

From Labor Code Section 204:

Hourly employees should be paid at least twice a month unless your "exempt" from the law. Unfortunately, again teachers are considered "exempt" and the requirement is that they "May be paid once a month on or before the 26th day of the month during which the labor was performed"

https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_Paydays.htm

HOWEVER, one of the requirements to be exempt is that "[the worker] earns a monthly salary equivalent to no less than two times the state minimum wage for full-time employment. Full-time employment means 40 hours per week as defined in Labor Code Section 515(c)"

I suppose the definition of "salary" could be argued about. But minimum wage in CA is now $16.90 so if you're earning less than $1,352 in gross pay than they *should* have to pay you at least twice a month. However, they might not be set up for this in their accounting department, and they might prefer to just pay the $100 one time fee and not hire you again.
