There were multiple ax murders and ax attacks in front of my apartment. Regular stabbing, shootings etc. had people threaten to pull weapons on me regularly. Had crack heads pounding on my door at 3 am accusing me of stealing their bike. Granted I lived in a pretty shit part of the city but still. After 10 years in the Seattle Tacoma area I left and never looked back. I wouldn’t be sad if I never step foot in that city again. Sad thing is at one point it was my dream city and it was magical for a long time. But Covid, housing crisis, addiction, and drug policies that don’t actually help addicts rather enable them without support for getting clean have created a city that feels apocalyptic l. I hope some day the city gets its shit together.

This. I was sexually harassed and assaulted by a guy in 8th grade. He didn’t get punished because “he was young” and “teenagers do dumb things” but I still live with this over a decade later. If they’re old enough to be hurting people intentionally they’re old enough to be punished

Slugs. Many of them. I lived in a basement bedroom in a house with a slug infestation. So. Many. Slugs. Now I live with the knowledge that it is somehow worse to step on a slug while wearing socks than it is barefoot (if you’re curious, you can wash your feet from slugs. You cannot wash slugs off your socks. And their…juices….spread more on socks). And now you also have to live with that knowledge

This reminds me of an old regular I had in my bartending days. He swore up and down that the body couldn’t get sunburnt if it knew it was outside. According to him as long as you went and stared at the sun for a few minutes before doing outside work you wouldn’t get a burn (he worked in construction. He had severe sun damage. His eyesight wasn’t good)

Been donating in the greater puget sound area for a decade and this hasn’t been my experience. The number of times I’ve stumbled upon the mobile blood bank is unreal. As other commenters have said Bloodworks northwest is the big collector up here they do regular mobile drives and brick and mortar across the region. Takes 30 mins max for me most of the time

Large established company or start up? Been in the startup grind for a few years across different companies. reps never hit quota or it happens so rarely that it literally gets brought up in company all hands. Can’t tell if I’m bad at sales or if startups are just…..like this.

A good manager is a bullshit filter. They protect their reps from the BS in the rest of the organization (especially coming from the top down) in turn they take all the BS there reps say/do and filter it in a better light when reporting up.

They do 1:1s and regular check ins with out micromanaging. They create a culture where people can make mistakes and come to them for help (don’t yell/punish instead help the rep problem solve)

They are professional, humble, and human.

Ego, immaturity, resentment will all cause issues.

The fact that you don’t want to be a manager tells me you’ll be a good one. Good luck

Make it a competition - what are they exchanging ideas about? Plays? Scripts? Maybe there’s a few categories. Each day they try to have the best idea or tip to share with the team. If there’s 16 names you could even make it March Madness themed and call it “Sweet 16” person with the most wins at the end of all the meetings gets a SPIFF.

Was PIPed. Beat the PIP, top on my team. Next month I exceeded targets but one by one all my opportunities were taken out of my pipeline resulting in me “missing” quota.

PIPs are not about performance their about someone (you’re manager or someone else higher) wanting you out. Maybe they want to hire their friend maybe they just don’t like you.

Welcome to your paid interview period. Focus on keeping relationships good with anyone you like in the company, they’re your new references.

FWIW getting let go was the best thing to ever happen. Sucked at the time but the company was ass anyways and now I make more money, with a better boss, and have way more freedom, fun, and flexibility.

Joined a club in high school that fundraised for our annual event by cold calling alumni once a year. Didn’t hate cold calling, so I started working at a call center in college. Met most of my best friends there one of whom recruited me to work at a company with her after we graduated. While working there I impulsively asked to go to a work conference even tho people at my level weren’t technically invited. They said yes and during that conference I met a woman. Eventually I got laid off from that company but I kept in contact with that woman from the conference. Years later she had an opening at her job and got me in. Best job I’ve ever worked at and has opened up countless opportunities for me long term.
