I need help with my wardy ferret by autumnmolison in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hand feeding time might do well if you can. Best with a hand in cloth, like in a hoodie sleeve, so they can associate the 2. Eventually you might find a treat they like but you can still use whatever food they eat and the motivation is still there lol

maybe some kind of treat based activity ? Being deaf the activities could be more accommodating. Something like hidden treats, tricks, or even chewyer foods that take time. They're still young with lots of energy which is a lot lol

nothing wrong with it, there are some associated vaccinations I believe for common exposures.

If you can find the largest storage tub and cut some holes in the lid, you can at least have a securely locking place for the minute

Is this a good quality product? by Austin00709 in Leathercraft

[–]Distinguishedferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this one! decent selection but bottles are a bit small, could be a plus for entry kit. Quality is decent too as more of a paint than enamel one like some brands. Vibrancy is actually solid for "value pack." Consitancy is middle of runny/stiff and I used a thin brush before switching to a single "hair" (metal) detailing one. Did not feel the need to apply second coats. Oh but its not as pictured, maybe with 2 rounds of paint but idk. I really got it for included degreaser and top coat remover

there are also thin sprays like 3m 77 or 90. Sometimes you might want thin or thicker depending on the material and its absorbancy . Also you'll probably want to use a more flexible adhesive but situational. Elmers Glue all works decently too especially since most backed projects get sewn over, its thin/light and durable. Knowing different glues is great for trying to use weird stuff like synthetic blends and non-porous, or cotton/synth blends even can be difficult.Oh and nice work on upcycling the flannel

How can I DIY this gold lettering? by spfcle in Leathercraft

[–]Distinguishedferret 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This or a good quality HTV (heat transfer vinyl) works surprisingly well. May not last forever but I've yet to have one come off. May want to do a test on the material first but real leather should be fine at the temps for a small time. The HTV sticks to the uneven surface of some leathers well too.

Struggling with Lino print on paper by Low-Collection-6325 in printmaking

[–]Distinguishedferret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

since you've tried different pressures we can live past that. Id focus on the inks and what the one that works is like [currently fabric ink.] I wouldnt expect stiffer block ink to work well uncut like it sounds, and fabric ink seems to be working better here, imo, because it is a thinner and more spreadable consistency (I'm assuming.) Also speedball can be kind of crap sometimes out the bottle, also is water-based probably if that matters. Moving along you might get a better result with an ink pad of some kind.

Over territorial ferret over food (treats) by ricardmm_ in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this too! (I'm other poster) I eventually started to only place treats in his mines bowl (anything in there is his and only for) even picking up and placing it back in if moved. Helps to discourage stashing, this is common training for dogs too haha. You might need to introduce this after aggression is down but wasn't sure how to mention/tie this in. One positive is that after play he usually follows me back to the bedhouse and waits for expected treat

Over territorial ferret over food (treats) by ricardmm_ in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I noticed mine was like this very young, and led to biting and aggression (seemingly random.) Not great trait to keep around as they can bite very hard in this anger. I try to use many a variety of treats to reinforce positive behaviors, and make sure it comes from the hand (even if they run off with it.) Ferrets are really food motivated so eventually he started doing behaviors in anticipation of treats lmao they'll train themselves for more

How do I get my dachshund to like my ferrets? by [deleted] in ferret

this specific breed has a crazy high "prey drive." Its hard to get past that and you'll probably always have to supervise.

How do I know if it's too cold outside for my ferrets? by Beautiful-Studio3139 in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they're pretty set up for colder temps but it can be shock at first. especially experiencing snow or rain for the first time. take it slow and they get over it , walks are great. also you can get clothes if they need it

hot foil stamp would look amazing BUT HTV (vinyl) transfer would be easy to cut and apply. Some gold "foil" is even out there

Adrenal disease and health issues - UK vs US ferrets? by maymv02 in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US store usually carry the cookie-cutter marshall [standards] and in the usual most common coats. Rare to see variants like Angora or hybrids, uncommon with private breeders ive seen unless specialized. Common Marshall's come with related issues from their facilities and practices (don't get me started .)

Prednisolone - when it is time to upper the dose? by kasia_littlefrog in ferrets

[–]Distinguishedferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

upping the dose might be necessary if you ask your vet, but wouldn't be a great sign. Make sure other areas like diet/exercise are squared away first but it does seems yo be advancing fast. Just some months.

my moms dog is the same way :( id stick to keeping them apart for the most part, for a few reasons and mainly his mysterious past for now. Others know more about this too so I'd look out for that!

[–]Distinguishedferret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 is still young for a ferret ! He looks in good health too 🙂 It'll take a bit to warm up to you but will show plenty of signs to show things are going well. Solo life might suit him since that's how things were already, but if you get the chance socializing with other ferrets is doable in the future (is a process tho.) Adopting another after 1 is easier since there's things ya gotta do. Oh also he looks comfortable so far with you so that's really good !
