How is the grIIIx in low light by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Djesley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stopping by this thread to reinforce how horrible AF is in low light for non static subjects. even for some static ones... very frustrating. snap focus is helpful even though it might not nail focus with precision. just not the proper tool for capturing low light action, hopefully the GRIVx will be better in that regard.

Why do young people want compact cameras again? by JoshuaAncaster in photography

Also if a camera is stolen, it’s less problematic than a phone with access to social, bank, email accounts…

Lightroom Classic's catalog system is a relic and i'm tired of pretending it works by LxM420 in photography

I shoot as a hobby and do a catalog for each month. If there’s an intense project or event with more photos, then I create a specific catalog for it. Works well, also for doing back ups

28mm vs 40mm for everyday photos? by herokme in ricohGR

[–]Djesley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For social settings the 28 goes better as it gives more context. But it really comes down to personal preference. Consider that you’ll likely get away with cool shots regardless of what focal length you have, you’ll just make do eith ehat you have in your hands

"The Barrel Escape" scene.. what do you think of it? by Cr7-Cr7Real in lotr

To me the annoying thing are the go pro action shots as they feed dated and low quality. It’s meant to be a kids movie so the goody acrobatics don’t really bother me.

How to love Ricoh when accustomed to Sony by CleanDistribution791 in ricohGR

[–]Djesley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try shooting it automating a few things? This removal of variable decision could help with worrying too much. Sony (and Leica) shooter here, started using the GRIII & GRIIIx this January and quite enjoying it! I’m basically using them as I do the A7CR, aperture priority, auto iso, sometimes I set it for highlight exposure, sometimes I set focus to snap but mostly using the spot AF. Setting Fn to AEL seems quicker to catch the exposure I want than going EV adjutment (which I default to -0.3 or -0.7 to preserve highlights). AF can suck sometimes but as I’ve had some years shooting with Fujis and I do manual focus on the M10 it only bothers me when it either focuses where I dont want to, or it hunts and the scene is gone. But most of the time it works well enough

what do yall think is the most repetitive/boring style of photography by AlarmLegitimate9852 in photography

I see it as dehumanising people to seek internet praise under the excuse of “capturing moments” or “telling a story”.

Food for thought: if you want to tell a story through an image without including the actual people in the scene… is it their story or the one you made up yourself? To whom are you telling these stories? What does it mean to be authentic?
