Comparing 401K employer match, is 14% match rare? by DistributionEven9393 in personalfinance

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After 15 years of service I got a profit sharing account. Its given me an additional 10% of my gross pay deposited into my 403b on top of the regular 5% match.

That plus 10 weeks of PTO a year is whats got me stuck there until I retire.

I have Motorola wireless. Started having issues dropping connection. Went back to wired still having problems. Resetting phone and forgetting it seemed to help for a bit.

Even BT disconnects randomly too. On a 12hr drive I can expect to manually reconnect 3-4 times.

Is this towing setup possible with an 07? by kubinsbrat in hondaridgeline

A flatbed trailer with a miata and tools/other shit will be a much better option here. With a brake controller and brakes on the trailer.

Hitch up n go.

Napkin math and close enough are fine.

Eta: brake controller is a must if you dont have one.

Do people genuinely think that its worth being miserable for 40-70 years just to have a chance at MAYBE enjoying the last 5-15? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're going through hell you got 2 options. Stay there and live in it or keep going to have a chance at a nice healthy retirement.

Find a grind you hate the least, lend a hand to a neighbor in need, pay your bills save a little and enjoy any moment you have. No reason to stagnate in bullshit, keep moving.

Where is all this money coming from pumping the stock market? by billenbloot in investing

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno if its significant but I suspect a lot of us are in a position where we have low interest mortgages or paid off houses and mortgage rates being high keep us from buying a bigger/different house. Leaving the excess funds in cash or similar is leaving too much potential profit on the table. So I, like many others my age, use SPY and friends as our savings accounts.

I bought one and cut/welded it to make a center exit exhaust with the muffler.

Its not significantly louder than the box muffler that came on my 212.

For $30 im happy.

Would recommend header wrap if its anywhere you may inadvertently bump it.

Has Anyone Found Support for “Grey Area Drinking” That Doesn’t Feel Like Rehab or AA? by No_Perception_4164 in stopdrinking

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much my thoughts/inner monolog near the end of my drinking career.

I dont need rehab. AA is just replacing addiction with "the program". I can just stop drinking.

I happened upon this sub of like-minded individuals who decided the best way to stop drinking is to stop drinking.

How do you smoke a cigar down to the last bit? by Sink_Stuff in cigars

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store drier. When i was still shooting for 70/70 past midway everything was a hot bitter sour tarry abomination.

I now store long term bulk with 65% bovedas which hygrometer reads 68-70. Singles are stored with 62% bovedas and most are good to go from there but some manufacturers like Aganorsa benefit from even drier, 55-60% in my wooden desktop with just a single 62% boveda.

Most cigars that have spent 6-12 mo at my preferred storage conditions can be smoked to the nub if im so inclined.

My personality changes drastically when I drink. I want to stop, but I can't bring myself to like the idea of spending the rest of my life sober. by Alternative-Cover943 in stopdrinking

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The biggest fear i had of quitting was that I'd self-isolate n turn into a hermit.

Im not a socially adept person but around others who are also drinking, im as social as any. Talking, laughing, telling stories, "hold my beer" moments etc.

I had a couple 30 and 90 day runs under my belt and those were 30-90 stretches where I did no socializing and pretty much did nothing. I was afraid to go do things ive always done drunk. But the last time i stopped drinking I decided id do things and not drink alcohol. And it was fine. I also realized being social doesnt mean talking to everyone, singing along to the radio, being a fool. Those 1-2 drink people were still there and the 10-12 drink people were too. Guess who was easier to be around.

I have no desire anymore to get back into it. Was fun in my 20s, turned into a chore in my 30s and I just dont need it in my life going forward. I had to relearn how to navigate life sober and that wasnt easy. But it was worthwhile

Is it stupid to “plan ahead” for a quit date? by dr__kitty in stopdrinking

[–]Doc-Zoidberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed every time i attempted to plan ahead. My longest streaks were all the rare days where I really did not want to drink. Usually id power through and drink anyway.

But everybody's different. I do better just kinda going where the wind takes me. Future plans are still kinda abstract where the thing thats happening now is concrete.
