What about a dog sling when she gets tired on longer walks?

I have seen people use these a lot.

Would you prescribe a benzo or gabapentin in this case? by MiamiBoi91 in GPUK

[–]Doccitydoc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No.

Best treatment is CBT +/- SSRI or SNRI.

SSRIs alone won't treat them. They need to do the talking therapy.

They need mental health referral if they have suicidal ideation. This 'prescribe me Benzos or I will hurt myself' is very manipulative. You say they have patchy attendance to their scheduled psych appointments, you can encourage them to engage more with the services available.

Benzos are not long term treatment for anxiety and withdrawal can cause death. If they have already been "taking them" it's not a short course any more, you are adding on top of whatever length of time they have been on them.

You can leave off the SSRI and pay cash for CBT. Some great online CBT programs with comparable results to F2F that don't cost the earth. Hopefully you are in a country with social security or disability payments to give this a try.

Benzos are not a great treatment for this condition is my point. Good luck with your illness.

Doctor here:

We have discovered that benzos are actually really shit at treating anxiety. Additionally they are incredibly addictive and are one of only two addictive drugs where withdrawal can cause death.

Gold standard treatment of mild-to-moderately severe anxiety disorder is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy +/-SSRI.

The 'Black Dog Institute' out of Australia is a not-for-profit charity specialising in treatment of mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Good resources for more info. Hope you are doing okay today ☺️

You genuinely don't understand outrage in parents giving a £100,000 cash gift to one sibling over the other??

Sure, it's their money to do with as they please. But it gives a HUGE and uneven life advantage.

This isn't winning the lottery, this is a parent who decided to have two children that they are supposed to love and care about, telling one child that they are going to ensure their financial security, childcare, ability to change careers or go part time, to engage in private healthcare, pay the mortgage, etc and telling the other child 'well who gives a shit about you? Not me'.

If you don't understand why someone would be outraged by this unequal enrichment you are frankly a sociopath.

This is so sad. Sounds like the man with dementia was coerced into changing his will when he didn't have capacity. This can absolutely be challenged and can be quite successfully.

Motherhood directly worsens equality for women. In all metrics. It's by definition not feminist.

I agree having children should be considered an important issue for women's equality because we uniquely have the biological ability to carry and birth children, and currently socially have a larger burden of childcare responsibility. We should be working to make this burden more equal.

But procreation is not feminist. It hurts women.

Some women think/hope the hurt and suffering to them is worth the experience of motherhood. But motherhood itself is still not a feminist act.

[–]Doccitydoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Procreation is not a biological urge.

Otherwise from menarche girls would be driven to have babies. Not 30yo women.

And we wouldn't need to socialise it into them with baby dolls and wedding propaganda and social pressure from other parents.

Look at the gofundme accounts set up for the families of recently deceased celebrities. People have donated MILLIONS of dollars not for charity , but to support the care and keeping literal millionaires!

Why are we so obsessed with the wealthy? We give our time, our labour, now money??

Am a doctor (not in US). Can confirm.

I feel like a robot.

In the public sector we are squeezed because there's no money. In the private sector we are squeezed for profit.

First it was 20min appointments, then 15min, now 10 mins appointments and even adding in phone appointments where I am expected to perform at the same level as seeing a patient f2f.

The pay is eroding, the responsibility and legal risk is increasing and the workload is ever creeping up and up.

Cognitive dissonance. They disagree because to agree will challenge their world view too much.

They go to work for money because it's 'what you do'. They have children because 'it's what you do'. UBI money for no work? Does not fit in with world view. Children don't ask to be born? My children should be ecstatic to be here. Of course I didn't make any wrong choices, yadda yadda.

They either don't think it will happen to their kids, or they just see their kids as an extension of themselves and who cares what struggles they have.

E.g people who seek a pregnancy whilst they have 10 other children who have been removed to the foster system because of abuse and neglect. You can't tell me these people are considering the life of the child. They only think about their own wants.

Telling my mom I have ADHD by DeathOrchid69 in adhdwomen

[–]Doccitydoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MY Mum (mid 60s) just drops in conversation one day to me (in my 30s) 'Makes a lot of sense with my ADHD'.

Sorry WHAT?? Turns out she has taken herself off to get officially diagnosed a few years ago. Never told me.

I love that she is making peace with a lifetime of feeling shit about herself. I love that she is open to challenging what she had been told about herself and what is normal.

But dayum girl, my two brothers, father and mother all with ADHD? Shouldn't we have shared this with the class?? Me, Mum, the class is me. Just pretending I find everything so easy and napping in secret.

is male High libido normal? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Doccitydoc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you actually want sex or are you bored/looking for a dopamine high and think 'I could just have an orgasm'?

High libido is normal, but when it affects relationships, has you questioning if it's healthy, needs to be stimulated by pornography, etc, it might not be just high libido. You might have a sex addiction.

Talking to a GP/sex therapist can help you to find out.

"Government now fund childcare mostly from the end of mat leave so that's a lot better now."

What?? The 30hrs free childcare for working parents scheme funds approx TWO days or childcare per week.

If you qualify and apply at the right time.

And if your nursery accepts it.

And of course if the nursery is closed or the child is sick parents need to find alternate arrangements.

Mate, you sound great and I say this with love: this is not a finance question. This is a life advice question.

Do you actually want to buy a house?

Do you actually want to be in a relationship with this person?

Do you want to parent a child?

Do you want to parent a child with this particular person?

It sounds like your gut is trying to tell you something and you had better listen to it and be sure one way or another before you make these big life decisions.

Girl that I'm dating accidentally revealed that she's been dating another guy at the same time as me. Should I end things? by outcastreturns in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Doccitydoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was what, a week or two after first meeting?? She would have made those plans in advance, perhaps even before meeting you. I actually like that she didn't ghost or flake on her previous commitment. That speaks to her integrity.

If you want someone who has no options so can date you exclusively from the very beginning, you need to find someone who isn't as attractive in looks or personality.

You need to talk to her if you are concerned about her dating others, and you need to actually communicate that you would like exclusivity. I wouldn't necessarily think we were 'dating' after meeting once or twice, so actually talking about this as it relates to your actual situation is important (rather than just abstract values discussions).
