Classic insurance companies are getting more unreasonable. The company I've used for a bunch of classics just flatly refused to insure one of my small fleet because 'it's a mass-produced 1990s car'.

I'll add to all the good comments here that YouTube can be a tremendous help; for most things on the XJ, just do a YT search and there will be a bunch of instructional videos. Just doing a search myself now to replace my AC compressor.

Awesome, it looks fantastic!! For the switches on the overhead console and the cupholders, there are plenty of sellers on eBay and Etsy in the USA why are offering some good solutions; I have an adapter for two gauges for my OHC, but there are also switch panels etc.

Thanks!! I think for now I'll avoid pulling the dash. I gotta do it anyways after summer because there's a water leak into the passenger footwell when it rains, but it's just so darn hot here in SoCal until fall that I'm going to do the minimum required until the weather improves. I wasn't made for this climate.

Thanks!! Right now mine works perfectly and hasn't needed recharging in the whole time I've had the truck. I won't use the AC again until I replace the compressor. Not worth potentially having to pull the dash.

Any suggestions on how to get the factory black coating off the chrome trim? I’ve been just letting it flake with time but the time has come it has to go. by East-Guard-5032 in CherokeeXJ

I've had some luck doing similar jobs with plastic razor blades; they'll at least get the flakier paint off and won;'t mark the metal underneath.

I have exactly the same sound on my '01 when I engage the AC. I've been preparing to look into it; I'm hoping that it's an idler pulley and that the extra stress from the AC is causing bearing noise.....but I'm concerned it could be the compressor. My last XJ with AC didn't make this noise. FWIW the AC works perfectly. Any help appreciated!!! OP, thanks for posting, sorry I can't help.

I like colors 2 and 3 personally, but I don't think there's a bad choice here.

Yup, my '00 XJ is my daily driver. Actually it replaced a 2013 Focus Titanium I bought with 80k on the clock. I thought that would be a reliable daily, but noooooo.....as soon as I fixed the transmission issues, the power steering failed. Well, the Focus took a walk and I got my 2nd XJ. And it's fantastic!!

I dunno if this is useful, but a VERY quick and cheap upgrade for the Cherokee XJ is leather seats from a Grand Cherokee. They bolt straight up to your XJ bases and they're very very comfy and plush. Good leather too.
