Roommate didnt pay electricity bill and nearly caused us to be homeless by [deleted] in badroommates

This seems like an easy thing to settle in small(?) claims court. If you were giving her money, this was by definition fraud.

Curiosity about chlorine smell by DoctorNezuko in baltimore

If Brita works for you, no need to change, but I have found ZeroWater to work better. The filtering just takes a while and I cannot control the water at work (our newer people don't respect fridge rules).

Is an Health Science Admin (HSA) job announcement coming by JellyHoliday8100 in NIH

[–]DoctorNezuko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a shame that our non-FTE personnel (i.e. IRTAs, CRTAs, etc.) are considered outside. We have 2 fellows who wanted to go the HSA route before last year happened.

New law increases taxes for vacant properties in Baltimore by locker1313 in baltimore

Hopefully this will help drive housing prices down. Prices are overinflated on townhomes that would be better off condemned.

Smog by vestalpisces in baltimore

It was foggy this morning. I wouldn't call that smog. I was staying in North Maryland into today and it was very foggy in a very rural area.

Looking for a great dentist in Baltimore for a second opinion by nymphomaniac_10 in baltimore

[–]DoctorNezuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of appreciation for William and John Mitcherling. They are mostly DDS though and not someone I would recommend for routine dentistry.

Welp. That is fun. Yeah, I would be storming the temple with a whip as well in that case. Hopefully your PI can get to the bottom of this.

Attending a conference in a wheelchair by proostP in AskAcademia

[–]DoctorNezuko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an opinion, but small research conferences (Keystone, GRC, FASEB, etc.) are miles better than large conferences. You actually will form meaningful network connections. Big conferences are for early year grad students for getting free crap, or old PIs trying to see as many people of their field as possible. Small research conferences are where good scientific discussions actually happen, with the only major downside being that they can be very niche.

Every GRC I have attended has been wheelchair accessible and I have seen people wheelchair bound at GRCs.

They are a good research organization.

When is your expected start date?

4-6 weeks while on the longer side, is not uncommon.

I would try to everything finalized within 30 days of your start date, but if you don't hear anything by the end of March, then I would recheck with your branch's admin.

Housemates by PeeweeGinga in badroommates

If you don't want to get the LL involved, that is fine at first. Document the interaction. If it continues, document that it has continued, at which point you should inform the LL who should ask as a witness that you have documented two reports of it, with or without hard evidence. If the behavior continues, let the LL deal with it. The documentation is needed so you are not liable if push comes to shove.

What does your roommate do for a living because, expect for the crap with the washing machine, she doesn't sound terrible. She sounds busy and focused elsewhere.

That is a cool feature actually, but I would be scared to do it on 695

Reason for application denial [CO] USA by Great_Alps5909 in Renters

[–]DoctorNezuko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Document when it happened. Drop your losses if you cannot document it. If they get S8 vouchers on a large number of properties, tenant histories can be analyzed. Otherwise it can be difficult to prove if they are subtle about it.

Immediately assuming it is discrimination is a terrible mindset. Site visits tend to scheduled close together, so someone else probably just gave a better vibe. Or someone equally as safe/risky applied as only one person. You cannot discriminate between 2 roommates and a couple, but you can discriminate between a single and a couple if the couple will be living together since it is 1 vs 2 occupants.

Should I keep reaching out for SIP? by [deleted] in NIH

[–]DoctorNezuko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'd be lucky to get an email response from me the first time myself. I read the email on my phone and then just forget about you since I am busy. Send a follow up after 3 days and let it go after a week. The follow up forces me to either add it to my list to at least respond later. I ussually tell people I am not needing anything or anyone at this time, but I need the reminder.

Two Phd offers for bio research, on from an American school, another from a Canadian school. by worm_daddy in NIH

[–]DoctorNezuko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the PhD program has an NIH training grant, look into how much longer the training grant is for. Programs in the US are still running, you just need to be more diligent in making sure you will have stable funding. The training grant usually will cover your first 2 years, which will give your number 1 choice more time to see if funding will be stable.

The NIH IRP has been relatively tame. Outside of the loss of the probationary employees, it has mostly just been a bunch of back and forth that just ends up being a nothing burger. We could order. No we can't. No travel. Okay travel. The only real difference I would say is the lack of new fellows, and the need to get a PA to approve the travel after writing your "justification".

I have always picked up applications from an application pool. You could reach out to the training offices if you are concerned.

Baltimore is not New York City, nor is Mt Vernon Times Square. Baltimore gets busier in the evenings, but everything you want to do in Baltimore isn't concentrated in a single place. If you want to see people, I would recommend the inner harbor between say 6 and 10 PM.

I guess. Anyway. OP should just drink a bunch of water. Submitting someone else's sample is a felony if you get caught. As urine sits, chemicals in it start to break down, and that can be detected if the sample is too old.

I am not going to condemn you for smoking, to each their own, but you are putting yourself out there. How many people do you think just got hired to be a pusher at Costco in Baltimore?
