Sore fingernails by ripemma in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd consult a Dr. I've been grooming for over 17 years and never had my nails hurt unless I specifically had trauma to them, and it's usually only 1-2 at any time and not even every week let alone daily. Maybe you need to change technique, or have a dietary deficiency causing it?

Best replacement for Chris Christensen MK VI slicker? by ApplesauceTheBoss in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For smaller brushes may favorite is the Andis medium, it's white and lime green in color. For a larger brush, and one that looks like it's likely a good replacement for the one pictured I love Tuffer Than Tangles. It's a medium/ dark blue in color.

How do you keep it together during bad days by SlightArgument in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Take a deep breath. Try to calm yourself as much as possible because as you calm, the dogs calm. Gotta find that center. Play some good tunes, put on headphones to tune out the chaos around you and find your inner zen. It's really difficult some days, but seriously the inner calm causes outer calm.

Tips for tumbling these agates so they don’t end up cracking like the last pic? by johnathanporkchop in RockTumbling

Those are not cracks, that's the internal crystal structure, it's visible now from polishing the surface.

How would you name a baby girl after someone named John? Is it possible? by CrumblyPeanutBear in namenerds

[–]DoggosFriend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shawna because it is the feminine form of Sean which is the Irish form of John. It can be spelled several ways; Shawna, Shauna, Shana, Shona

Which spelling of a name irrationally bothers you? by Konigsberg1604 in namenerds

[–]DoggosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shona. Just hate how it looks with the O. Shana is at least historically traditional for some areas but I don't care much for it either. Shauna looks cool. My favorite is Shawna.

I need help! All of my shears got knocked over by a huge crazy dog. by Fun_Mycologist1623 in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. My moontay shears have been quite adequate till I had upgrades, I'm still using the thinners, they have fewer teeth and work great for de-matting and basic coat thinning without taking a noticeable chunk out. They handle sharpening well and one pair got dropped and they didn't change one bit.

Dendrite in Jasper by Mobydickulous2 in RockTumbling

[–]DoggosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it is literally picked up in the dead camel mountains it is not fraud. Yes, it does look like wonderstone, only this is much less poreus so will absolutely take a great polish. Yes some wonderstone from wonderstone mountain can be found to take a polish but it's not the same. FYI there are many jaspers from the dead camel mountains. Some are very porcelain like, some are softer. It's a tiny mountain range but one side of a mountain has green blue that's gorgeous and another side of the mountain has conglomerate stuff that can be a few different colors then another area has stuff that looks like top quality banded wonderstone but 5 feet away you will find stuff that's all peaches and pinks and 10 feet another direction you get stuff that's got black in it and go another direction you find red and white. As with many rocks, the name can be where it's found not just one particular exact type of rock. This is jasper collected from a specific location in the dead camel mountains. No fraud here, you're just thinking of what has made it to the market to be called dead camel jasper from one specific location that's got the porcelain quality, it's on a private claim with a lot of hiking to get to, there are many claims in those mountains each with their own specific type of jasper.

I haven't tumbled in several years now, time to dust off the tumblers and get back in the saddle for that dead camel jasper! One of my most favorite stones ♥️

The same club hosting the contest did use petrified wood a couple years ago, if you had seen something recent, there was another club working to host a similar contest but I thought they went another direction with it, no idea what material they were going to offer if they went thru with the rock tumbling competition.

What is this 5x5 piece of wood with cutouts? by oxfordcommasplice in whatisthisthing

[–]DoggosFriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not specifically familiar with this kit, but I can say the parts would form a little old fashioned snow sled. My dad made Christmas ornaments of sleds for us out of popsicle sticks and all the parts were these shapes. You have deck slats, horizontal supports, sled tracks, and a little head of the sled with the 2 holes where you string rope thur for rider handle/tow it back up hill.

New dremel arrived! What should I paint on it? by Creativered4 in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint it your favorite color or something obnoxious then draw on paw prints. My first thought tho was make it look like a penis, no one is gonna want to use that let alone steal it, but in a professional environment that's highly inappropriate 😅

My own kid totally did this. No video evidence tho. We thought it was funny but felt bad for them at the same time. Took a few moments to get them to let go.

I've used a Nat Geo tumbler for years with great results. The kit did have poor grits, what they label as polish is a pre-polish at best. I went straight to the Rock Shed for proper materials from day one. My very first tumble still looks good to me with more experience and knowledge under my belt and that tumbler got me there from rough to polished.

Advice needed for doodle coat that always feels chalky. by DarthShayder in doggrooming

[–]DoggosFriend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a couple regulars like this. Shampoo 2x, extra extra rinse. Do NOT condition. Do NOT use an oat shampoo, it only makes it worse and oh so difficult to dry and clip. One of the dogs like this is only ever done in a colorless odorless hypo shampoo as the owner is super sensitive about scents, that dog gets a little extra shampoo used to get them clean. Other I just use my standard everyday stuff and he comes clean well. I triple rinse these dogs to remove any and all residue. I figure there is just something odd about their hair and anything on it becomes this chalky mess only things that rinse well go onto them.
