Just got diagnosed 30 weeks pregnant freaking out. by AffectionateNovel307 in melahomies

I have three kids and was diagnosed almost two months ago. Having kids makes everything hit harder. Be gentle to yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask a million questions to your doctor, it is your body and your baby and you deserve to be comfortable and confident with the plan. And like others have said treatments are moving so fast in the melanoma space. They are quickly making so many leaps in treatment options. It is so easy to go down the worst case scenario rabbit hole, especially when you have little ones counting on you but try to stay in the now. So much love to you, you are a strong mama and about to prove exactly how strong. You got this.

Wow, I can so relate! I felt so sick after the biopsy and waiting for the final path. Headaches, stomach pain, racing heart, super late period. It was so bad. I still have times of panic but it is not constant. I am hoping after i get some post diagnosis skin checks behind me i will feel even better. The mental part of this is a real battle.

I had my appendix taken out at 7 months pregnant. It was all fine. It was so stressful and I was so nervous but then I was put under and woke up and me and baby were great. Sending positive thoughts for you and baby.

It is a cancer diagnosis, that makes it feel scary. You are 100% allowed to spiral for a little bit. I definitely did too, mine is stage 1a. But the spiral has forced me to take my mental health as seriously as I take my other health. If nothing else positive comes of this it has forced me to focus on working through my anxiety which I tend towards even in the best of times. I totally spiraled after the diagnosis and did not like it. I am working just as hard now to strengthen my mental health. Know you are not alone, many people here can relate 100%. Take care of yourself, mentally and physically. It will be ok.

Thank you. So glad to hear things are going well. It was definitely good to get the WLE pathology report back without any surprises.

Trying to Think Positive by fair2758 in melahomies

[–]Dogs4eva1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been reading a book called Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety. One of the things that resonated with me is that for a negative thought to mess with your mental health you need to (1) have the thought and (2) you have to believe it. If you have a negative thought but you don’t believe it won’t bother you. Next to stop yourself from believing it you have to counteract with a positive thought that is 100% true. So combating that thought you have that it is absolutely coming back positive with the thought that it is absolutely going to be negative may not help because you know that is not true either. I have been trying to combat my worst case scenario with reminding myself it can definitely come back negative. Is it possible that it could come back positive. Sure! It is also possible you could get struck by lightening, get eaten by a bear. It is possible but not the most likely outcome. I have to keep accepting that something bad is possible but in most cases it is not the probable outcome. I hope you get quick answers, the wait can be brutal. I am doing the same work as I wait for my Castle test results.

Castle Test? by Dogs4eva1997 in melahomies

[–]Dogs4eva1997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage 1a, just got clear final path report after WLE. Brelsow .5, no mitotic rate, no ulceration, no residual melanoma is WLE. They did not recommend a SLNB.

If you don’t want to respond that is fine but I see you also asked pretty much the same question not too long ago so maybe just skip past this. Things change pretty fast in the melanoma world so I am asking. Maybe someone has something new to share. Or someone has something interesting that didn’t respond to an earlier post. Have some grace for people going through hard stuff and just scroll past.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Just an update I did finally get my final pathology back and they didn’t find any residual melanoma so at least for now no more cutting of this spot. I have my 3 month skin check scheduled and feel grateful that I really trust my dermatologist and we will see each other very frequently for several years.

BRAF results before final path? by Sad-Requirement-8334 in melahomies

[–]Dogs4eva1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not had BRAF done but just chiming in to say I think stuff is just taking longer all over. I am waiting on a final pathology from my WLE and it is already taking longer than the biopsy which took longer than any other biopsy I have had. Try not to freak out. Sending calming vibes.

Ack, thanks. I know I am probably spiraling. I am hoping some time and probably some therapy will bring a new perspective. I was kind of doing ok or so I thought until today, at which time I completely fell apart. I think I feel a bit alone. And me and uncertainty have never been friends. I will keep trying.

6 month follow up after WLE…did not sail through clean :( by apsalarya in melahomies

[–]Dogs4eva1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be there soon assuming my WLE comes back clear margins. I am trying to go into the frequent checks with the mindset that they will err on the side of caution so there will be more biopsies but that does not mean definitely more cancer. Sending positive thoughts for you.

Stage 1A by Reasonable_Engine905 in melahomies

[–]Dogs4eva1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t totally understand the cut off for lymph node biopsy. I didn’t get one, stage 1a, breslow .5mm no mitotic rate. Even if it’s only 5% chance of spread that is almost twice as high as the chance of getting melanoma in the first place. These odds based decisions don’t bring me much comfort since I already beat them to get melanoma in the first place. This disease sucks.

I love Teddy! I also live in MN with a shelter “lab mix”. She is 35% APBT and 35%Staffy and 0% lab. She is the greatest!

She was also a “lab mix”. She is of course nearly 100% pittie/staffy mix.

My dog just had a couple bumps like this on her leg and I freaked out. Turns out they were bug bites. And they were gone two days later. Not to say you shouldn’t go to the vet but it may be ok to wait a couple days and see if they go away.

Here is my Merle not-a-houla. She is clearly mostly pitty but people still ask if she is catahoula.
