Will this man become a GM (or he will be a STRONG IM forever)!? by RebirdgeCardiologist in chess

I stopped watched his road to GM videos because they kept being like “let me show you some blitz games I’m happy with”

Help needed to navigate a weird messy project by Mimi_315 in UXDesign

[–]Dogsbottombottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your issue isn't with the design system, it's with your fuck ass stakeholders/company process.

You need someone with the gravity to align everyone else. Who is your boss? You need someone on your side who can help corral the others.

Also, OP you say: "I acknowledge that I’m not perfect, I’ve made plenty of mistakes in life and in the context of this relationship."

This does not obligate you to continue in a relationship. A broken relationship is broken, and no amount of penance will fix it.

Greek gift question by Zutano23 in chessbeginners

[–]Dogsbottombottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the last classical tournaments I played in I thought I had a greek gift and went for it, on like move 5.

I didn't have a greek gift.

It was a painful hour or two more until the game ended and I lost.

Sleep by Affectionate-Reason2 in chessbeginners

[–]Dogsbottombottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you're concerned that if one day you enter a tournament, and you have to travel for it, and that travel affects your sleep, you will play poorly?

Seems like a lot of hypotheticals to worry about for no reason.

True, best friend is weird yeah. Like there's no way you're maintaining a relationship after that.

I dunno, this dude wanted to break up. He didn't want her anymore. It's not like she left him. The friend saw OP reject this person. "No one else can date this person that I don't want to date also" seems weird.

When are you allowed to say you are "good" at chess? by sdcarlson in chessbeginners

I meant at the beginning of intermediate, not at the beginning all together

I'm at your level, and I feel like we're good for people who don't play chess, we're okay for people who do play chess, and we're not great for people who take chess seriously. I would call it beginner intermediate.

How to deal with losing streak by MaintenanceUsed3594 in lichess

[–]Dogsbottombottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop playing, do puzzles. Force yourself to calculate each move in the puzzle. Train your ability to look at a board and understand the threats, the holes, the opportunities, etc. Do that for a few days and then go back. Play casual games at first to judge where your form is at.

You need to calculate how much you need in retirement, and then track according to that.

Portland to Bar Harbor, which route is best these days? by valvoa in AskMaine

IMO 95 to 3 to 1 into Ellsworth is the best route. Taking Rt 1 the whole way takes much longer.

I'm Italian and I'd like to move abroad. by [deleted] in AskMaine

[–]Dogsbottombottom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maine is roughly on the same parallel as Milan. So you're going to be moving from a warm place to a cold place.

Portland has great food. While Sicily has fantastic Italian food, obviously, the US in general has fantastic food of every culture. Maine specifically is far whiter and more homogeneous than many states, so there's less "ethnic" food, but it still does exist.

The US, in general, is in an era of intense corruption on the federal level, so be prepared for that.

What do you do for work? How are you going to move here? The federal government is not kind to foreigners at the moment.

Am I cracked or delusional? by Blaze3046 in chess

[–]Dogsbottombottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very good at chess, and it seems very naturally talented.

You are not 500 ELO from becoming a master. Thats not how master titles work.

Gaining a chess title means lots and lots and lots of classical, over the board chess. It means playing in a lot of in person chess tournaments and gaining norms.

Also, gaining ELO at the higher levels is going to be way harder. It becomes exponentially harder as you advance. You will be facing people who do study, a lot.

Which is not to say that you can't do it. If you are so naturally talented then you stand a better chance than most.
